This is copied from the "HOI features(summary)" thread:

There are three different sides to the conflict, and one side--the communist Comintern--can join either the Axis or the Allies, or stay neutral. The rest of the countries are neutrals and will be affected by diplomatic actions by the major powers

If this is correct, there is no possibility to have a united front against communism... ;)

And if it is correct, what do you think about it? As I see it, in the 1939 there was a real posssibility that France-Brittain could have waged war against USSR.

And where would that leave nazi-Germany in this games pretext? Would it be "forced" to join the Comintern?

IMHO it should atleast be possible to have a "axis" and "allies against the "commies" There doesent have to be a active alliance, but the two non commie-sides should be able to be at war with the commie-side at the same time.

I guess that both the Axis and the Allies could go and fight communism. They would just be wagin seperate wars. A bit like Germany and Japan did in World War II.

I think it should be structured like the Axis and Allies board game:

1. Allied (democracies oriented)
2. Axis (right winged leaders/parties)
3. Communists (left winged socialists and ideologists)

so: AXIS, ALLIES AND RUSSIA is the mentality i am shooting for.
you choose one of the 4 teams..
1. axis
2. allies.
3. russia(red ideology)
4. neutral

I hope that the Neutrals will be able to create their own alliances.

Yes.. That would be good because then new major alliances could join in.

I think that the Neutrals can join Axis, Allies, or Comintern, or remain neutral, but am not sure. Comintern can join Axis, Allies or remain neutral.

It will be interesting to see if Axis can join Allies or Allies join Axis too.. :D It would be probably be very hard though.. :)

The Neutral and Comintern countries will probably join the side in which they will have the most personal gain. As an example, Siam (Thailand) will probably want to ally with Japan when the Japanese get there, or else they will have to fight the Japanese. If Germany has the Netherlands surrounded, perhaps they would try to join the Axis, if it was impossible for them to win. And I don't think that Mexico would want to declare war on U.S. in 1946 (As long as everything goes historically.. Something could've happened and U.S. could've lost many battles and made many mistakes and been under bad leadership and worked economy bad. Then Mexico would want to declare war on them. :D :D )
Poland will be a hard country because if Russia and Germany are at war, they can remain neutral and be caught in the frey, or join one side or the other, but still have one enemy. I guess they would probably want to ally with Germany, then help out with Operation Barbarossa. :D I think that Poland will be pretty fun in Hearts of Iron... :)

Ideologies are new religions

I used to play Europa Universalis I and II
So I hope that in HOI we will se the differents contry with ideological affect. For example by giving money you can turn Hungary to the communist sides or democracy or fascist sides.

Like that, the game can turn more for a HOI II with a cold war and terrible crisis by the balance of the wining idealogical sides.

If you give more money to Cuba, they can turn to the democracy sides etc ....
Remaining to the antic game : Balance of Powers.

That the capitalists should not be allowed to gang up on the Socialist Homeland defies belief :)

In general I think that small countreis should have staying out of the war as their only victory condition.

Diplomacy should be far more power-politics based than in the EU games. A bit of military and economic pressure should do the trick maintaining friendly relations. And such actiosn should carry no stab-hit equivalents. It should, for example, be possible for the Allies to blockade neutrals completely.

I think that if one of the powers blockaded a small neutral that thier would be stab hits and would severely effect relations if that happened now a days they would have to have a reallly good reason.

If Germany, France and Britain can´t stay at peace with each other and declare war on the Soviets then I´m the first one who will download a scenario that makes this possible. Of course, Poland is in the way... But against those nations the Soviets must surely fall?

i will be the first to download it but you might need to drop england for japan since blockaiding russia should be a major challenge for even just the french and german navies. and adding japan allows for attack from 2 sides. though angland can bring in 3 sides. decisions decisions. france adds lots more cannon fodder but england brings in a 3 side for the invasion.

New major alliences formed out of minor countries should not be possible. Not without involving any major countries. That's sort of the essence of minor and major countries.

A lot of minors then? Well, I can't see that happening anywhere in the globe at that time. Can you?

Me neither, with everyone planning all of these invasions of Russia... :D :D And this is before the release.. Imagine after

I don't know about the oil.. It will be interesting if they will target areas for resources like that.. Does that happen in EUII?? I know of the resources, but I don't know if the AI targets certain provinces for certain ones. I usually go by income. :D

I guess we will have to wait and see what tricks Stalin has up his sleeve... :D

Most of the Soviet oil is difficult to get at. They had an oilfied on Sachalin and some in Western Ukraine but otherwise it is Maikop, Grozny and Baku you'll have to take. Case Blue anyone?

I have com to the conclusion that I should order some panzers from Germany. Then, invade Siberia in the summer. :D

Yes.. The Soviet oil will be hard to get at. But, everyone seems to be going against them too..

Hmm.. Interesting scenario..

Hey case Blue got the Northern oil fields and the Soviets were starting to suffer a bit of an energy shortage. So I guess the Germans just needed a few more men and it might just of worked.
