Gebhard Blucher I’m glad you de-lurked for a moment and posted a comment. Me a smart-ass? :D :D Who would have thought I was capable of that? Happy that you’re enjoying my AAR.

Commandante I think you’re right about disaster bringing out the best in me. :D At least it hasn’t been boring!

Valdemar Never fear I will survive and live to tell another tale.

Wyvern Thanks for stopping by. I was careful in choosing the style for this AAR. I planned to play fast and write fast otherwise I run the risk of not finishing. To tell the truth once I figure out what and how I want to do a story I tend to write like a maniac so this is about my normal speed. Blink your eye and you might miss my entire AAR. :D

Hopefully I’ll get a post up today. I’ve played the Pope and Georgia’s next turn and things are getting very interesting.

Holy Shit

a. What the Pope said when he saw 75,000 Austrians heading his way
b. Slang: expletive phrase denoting extreme anger, fear or puzzlement

Papal States 1739

Aristocracy 6
Centralism 4
Innovativeness 2
Mercantilism 6
Offensive 6
Land 7
Quality 10
Serfdom 5

Land Tech 27
Naval Tech 20
Trade 5
Infrastructure 4

$637 in the bank with stability at +2.
I still have an extremely bad reputation. Even after losing three provinces?
Still in a military alliance with my good old buddy France.
I’m at peace but as we all know not for long.
Just to give you an idea why I’m a little leery of Austria, they have reached land tech 36. France is at level 29 so they aren’t much better off than I am. Austria also has a few leaders running around and I’m not eager to pick a fight with them.
I have 31,000 Infantry and 4,000 Calvary. My navy consists of 9 warships and 8 transports.
Sicily and Apulia still have 1% revolt risk and Messina is at 2%.
Okay so what does all this crap mean? It means this.

Goals: I don’t have to worry about picking a fight. Either Genoa or Austria is going to DOW me so I just need to get as ready as I can and see what happens. So conquering at least one and if I’m lucky two provinces would be nice. I don’t have a preference for which ones to grab.

January 1739

Austria declared war upon us! Eire, Luxembourgh and Brandenburg joined the war on the same side as Austria. France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. This happened on the 2nd, which might be a new record. Okay the usual group doing the usual thing.

Ottoman Empire declared war upon Georgia. Pommern joined the war on the same side as Ottoman Empire. Russia and Ukraine joined the war on the same side as Georgia. I’m hoping that Georgia can hold on just a little longer so that I can at least have the illusion of being strong enough for them to do something.

Genoa declared war upon us! Spain joined the war on the same side as Genoa.
France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. Well I think that takes care of everybody. Have we left anyone behind? Everyone aboard the bus? Yep, okay let’s rumble.

March 1739

So in the beginning the war with Austria revolved around Romagna, Mantua, Lombardia and Schwyz. We traded capturing and recapturing these provinces throughout the war. I made a point of not fighting any battles when their army had a leader. In fact I didn’t give them any pitched battles for the first year of the war. This is because they were moving their main armies into France and there were some colossal battles taking place there. So my part in the beginning was a game of the hounds and the hare. Chase me if you can but you won’t catch me!

So the war goes back and forth and to break this stalemate I land troops in Istria and eventually capture it and Pest. My problem was that even though I was getting the better of Austria I was having problems getting a high enough victory score to get more than one province. This was because France was having a rough time of it. I decided not to go for a separate peace because France was throwing tens of thousands of men at Austria and I didn’t want to leave them in the lurch. What can I say I’m loyal to a fault? Well that and I didn’t want Austria to get any of France’s provinces. Austria is getting too damn big! The war lasted until June 1742.

April 1739

Genoa rejected our generous peace offer! They are a pain in the ass and I’m losing my patience with them. I see Charles de Lorraine leading a 39,000 man Austrian army toward France. He runs head long into an 82,000 man French army led by Conti. Austria lost an army and leader. Hurray!

May1739

Aragon declared war upon France. Scotland joined the war on the same side as Aragon. Papal States joined the war on the same side as France. Someone is always late for the bus. Can the Pope handle three wars at one time? Sure why not? After all they don’t call him the Pope for nothing!

July 1739

Russia accepted peace with Ottoman Empire on the following terms. Russia pays $69 in indemnities. Oh look the Turks gave the Russians a bloody nose so they ran away crying. What a worthless ally to have. My little sister would be a stronger ally.

Papal States accepted peace with Genoa on the following terms. Papal States pays $38 in indemnities. I’m going to make them pay big time some day for harassing me.

May 1740

There are around 60,000 Austrians running around Northern Italy right now. It was at this time that the Pope let loose with a “Holy Shit” and decided that it was best to keep his head down. I let the Austrians do their thing and simply waited for an opportunity.

November 1740

I’m watching 72,000 Austrians march off to France and I’m still keeping my head down until they’re gone. No I’m not afraid, I’m cautious.

Aragon rejected our generous peace offer! They aren’t hurting me but I can’t see getting anything from them so I want out of this useless war.

Georgia accepted peace with Ottoman Empire on the following terms. Georgia pays $84 in indemnities. Crimea to Ottoman Empire. Shit in a bucket! If Crimea revolts and declares its independence from the Ottomans I’m going to see how far I can throw a computer!

April 1741

Ottoman Empire declared war upon Mameluks. Pommern joined the war on the same side as Ottoman Empire. Aden and Hedjaz joined the war on the same side as Mameluks. The Ottomans are on a roll. Watch out Mameluks.

May1741

Papal States accepted peace with Luxembourgh on the following terms. Papal States pays $12 in indemnities. I never saw any men from Luxembourgh. I just got tired of turning down their constant peace offers. I had a girl friend who wouldn’t take no for an answer. I married her and now when she won’t take no for an answer I just say, “Yes dear whatever you say dear.” Of course I don’t listen to what she’s saying and it drives her nuts. Ah, the joys of marriage. Believe me gentlemen the phrase “Yes dear whatever you say dear” will save your marriage from unneeded strife. It also helps to mutter under your breath so that she isn’t sure what you’re saying. But that’s part of lesson two of “How I survived my marriage in ten easy lessons”. Remind me to purge this from my computer. I wouldn’t want my better half to read this!

Aragon accepted peace with France on the following terms. France pays $26 in indemnities. At least that war is over.

April 1742

The last main battle of the war has 62,000 French and Papal States soldiers besieging Lombardia who are attacked by 33,000 Austrians. We kicked their rosy red asses back to Austria. We kicked them so hard they glowed red in the dark.

June 1742

Papal States accepted peace with Austria on the following terms. Romagna to Papal States. It’s the best that I was going to get from them this war. I hate to say it but France is still a valuable ally for suckering the Austrians into attacking deep into France. The Austrians kept trying to capture a mighty fort and never did succeed. Austria must have had close to 200,000 men at one time during this war. The Pope can generate quite a few himself but not enough to handle Austria himself.

May 1743

Mameluks accepted peace with Ottoman Empire on the following terms. Sivas and Konya to Ottoman Empire. Damn! Didn’t I just upgrade both provinces’ forts? Wasn’t that to make it more difficult for the Ottomans to capture them? Am I an idiot? Don’t answer that. At least neither one is a victory province.

July 1743

I order an upgrade (small) to the fort in Romagna. You see I’m going to make it more difficult for the Austrians to capture the province. Wait a minute, something doesn’t sound right.

August 1745

Genoa declared war upon us! Spain joined the war on the same side as Genoa.
France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. Enough is enough I mean to get something from Genoa this time. “I’ve stood all I can stand I can’t stands no more!” Anyone know who said that?

October1745

We have initiated a siege in Liguria. No more mister nice guy. The Pope is taking his robes off for this fight.

April1746

Bavaria entered a Military Alliance with France and Papal States. The problem with this is that rebels control the capital of Bavaria and are besieging its other province. So they have no soldiers to help out in any war. And on top of that they hate the Pope. So I don’t plan on counting on them for any help.

Bavaria joined the war on the same side as France in their war against Dakota. Whoopee for them. Watch out Dakota here comes nobody.

Bavaria joined the war on the same side as Papal States and France in their war against Genoa and Spain. Big deal.

July 1746

Aragon declared war upon France. Scotland joined the war on the same side as Aragon. Bavaria and Papal States joined the war on the same side as France.
I’m getting a bit pissed at Aragon. If I can I’m going to try to grab an island or two from them or if not them then someone else. I have a good size fleet so why not?

October 1746

Genoa accepted peace with France on the following terms. France pays $72 in indemnities. France is pretty worn out right now. They need a rest badly but they keep DOWing tribes in the Americas.

December 1746

We have engaged hostile armies in Sardinia. How did this happen? I poked around with my fleet looking for an easy island to take and what I found was depressing. Crete has 32,000 Spanish soldiers camped out on it. Genoa has an army of 42,000 on Corsica and Aragon has an army of 12,000 on Sardinia. Now I did the number crunching, without a slider ruler, and believe it or not I decided to invade Sardinia. I won the battle and started the siege.

February 1747

We captured the province of Liguria from Genoa. I took everything they had in their treasury, which was only $150. If they would just get those men off of Sardinia I would have a chance of really hurting them.

July 1747

Austria declared war upon us! Eire, Luxembourgh and Brandenburg joined the war on the same side as Austria. France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. Bavaria dishonored your Military Alliance. What did I tell you? I want out of this war as soon as I can because I have less than two years remaining before moving on to Georgia.

September 1747

We have initiated a siege in Lombardia. We have initiated a siege in Mantua.

September 1747

Russia declared war upon Nogai. Mameluks, Aden and Hedjaz joined the war on the same side as Nogai. Hmm no Georgia or Ukraine joining in on the fun?

December 1747

France accepted peace with Scotland on the following terms. France pays $72 in indemnities. France is putting down a lot of revolts and is running out of men. Luckily Austria is moving toward them and not me.

January 1748

We captured the province of Lombardia from Austria. Papal States accepted peace with Austria on the following terms. Austria pays $275 in indemnities. I use the money to upgrade the fort in Romagna to medium. Let Austria try and take it now!

May 1748

So there I am besieging away in Sardinia where I’m making progress when France shows up with a leader and steals the siege. I threw in the towel and left the island and started looking for a way out of this stupid war.

July 1748

Papal States accepted peace with Aragon on the following terms. Papal States pays $75 in indemnities. Fine let France handle them alone.

Yes I could have done better if I had abandoned France in the first war but I have a soft spot for them in my heart. At least as long as they can draw the Austrians to them like a moth to a flame. Now please let the Pope hang on to everything!

Wow...Shit in a bucket? Wow...that is dedication, no stopping for bathroom breaks, just grab a bucket and squat...I'm impressed. and that quote is from Popeye...or is that Pope- eye? Great installment!

"No more mister nice guy. The Pope is taking his robes off for this fight."
:D:D

I think the Papal States are doomed. Your powerful enemies are DOWing practically as soon as the truces wear off. So unless Austria, Aragon, et al decompose in some really nasty civil wars, there is no way the AI can hold them off. Just like the other guys against the Ottomans. Sorry for the gloomy prediction.

I predict everything will be turn out absolutely fantastic for the citizens of Georgia, Papal States and Mameluks. I mean how bad could it be living under Ottoman or Austrian rule?:D

Another great one Joe. Really liked the wife story, "I’m not afraid, I’m cautious" and the Popeye quote.

Valdemar Nah that would be cheating. :D Do you think anyone would notice?

Amric Correct it was Pope-eye. :D

Commandante If I was a betting man and I am I wouldn’t have given you any odds on Georgia surviving. But I’ve played their turn and the world is never going to be the same. Big changes good and bad happen in the next ten years to all on the contestants.

Jwolf Well Genoa won’t recruit any men except on Corsica. However it has no navy so it can’t get them off the island. Aragon is interested in France and hasn’t sent any soldiers to Italy so they don’t worry me either. Austria on the other hand is a major problem. I think there’s a fifty- fifty chance of the Pope succeeding in holding it together.

Backpack The wife story is true. In any long lasting relationship you learn what will ease the way, oil the squeak or grease the skids so to speak. "Yes my dear whatever you say my dear" should be the mantra of any man who wants peace in his marriage. :D However the muttering under your breath will really drive them mad and should only be used after much practice and then with discretion.

Stroph1 Shudder. Some questions should never be asked. ;)

Storey you are actually breathing new life in to the log style AAR with this luxurious version cramped with witty episodes. Very avant-garde. ;)

You're doing a good job defending and reconquering, but with the constant declarations of war, twenty years away from the controls as the Pope must be a really long time...

Hope you'll keep it together!

Oh, and thanks for the wife story. I'm sure it will come in handy. :D

Judge Well with 99% of the AARs being written in a story form I just had to try doing a throwback log style. It has to do with always being a little out of step with everyone else. :D It was somewhat of a challenge to figure out how to keep people’s interest when reporting the umpteen revolt in Crimea. :D

Stuyvesant There has been a time in the game when I thought that each of the countries had a chance of winning, even Georgia but the Pope has been the odds on favorite. But you’re right the Pope has his work cut out for him.

Believe me when I say that little phrase will be a lifesaver. You have to learn to give in on most things since they really aren’t important. Then when something important for you comes up you can point to all the times you gave in and get a real good quilt trip going on her. Never underestimate the value of guilt. :D

I have $453 in the treasury and +3 stability.
I have an honorable reputation.
I have no F&*^&(^ Infantry.
I have no F^$#^% Calvary
I have no F )(*&*% Cannon.
I have no ships.
Nothing! No wonder I have $453. It’s kind of nice that the AI saved it up for me.
I lost Crimea to the Ottomans in the last war.
I’m in an alliance with Russia and Ukraine.
Russia is at war against the Mameluks, Nogai, Aden and Hedjaz but I don’t care.

Goals: Gentlemen it’s time to take drastic action if Georgia is to survive much less win the game. I plan on taking on the Turk and doing him some serious hurt. No I haven’t gone crazy it’s just that I’m running out of turns so I have to do something, anything! Since Russia is at war against the Mameluks and company they have moved thousands of troops to the south. There are even 15,000 sitting in Azov. I’m hoping that since they are already there the Russian AI might figure out how to use them if I DOW the Ottomans. If nothing else this turn should be fun.

January 1749

I recruit 1,000 Calvary and 2,000 Infantry and upgrade the fort in Kaffa. (small) If the Turks counter attack I’m worried that they will quickly capture the minimum fort there. Do I sound confident enough?

May 1749

I DOW the Ottomans. Yep with 3,000 men in my army I take on the bastards. Pommern joins the Ottomans. Russia and Ukraine join Georgia. I send my thousand Calvary to Crimea. Whoohoo I feel the wind in my hair as I start my suicide run! I want to get there first so that I can lead the siege incase the Russians or Ukrainians get off their collective butts. I add men and by August I have enough to start a siege in Crimea.

October 1479

Russia besieges Daghestan. I know, what a surprise. They are later joined by the Ukraine. Very few Ottomans to be seen anywhere. What few there are attack in Daghestan and lose.

January 1750

We capture Crimea. I immediately move to Jedisan and besiege it. Still no counter attack from the Ottomans. I have a decent sized army now and hopefully I can hold on to what I capture.

April 1750

I see a Russian army with a leader headed my way so I assault the fort in Jedisan and capture it. As it turns out the Russian leader wasn’t headed for Jedisan. He moved to Podolia and besieged it. Up to now the only Ottomans I’ve seen have been attacking the Russians in Daghestan. Where are all the Ottomans?

February 1751

Russia captures Daghestan and starts besieging Armenia. Meanwhile the Russians have also captures Podolia. What’s gotten into these guys? I mean they are romping through the Ottomans like they don’t exist. Who are these guys? Speaking of the Ottomans where are they? I see only a few thousand here and there.

June 1751

Ukraine besieges Trabzon. The Ukrainians helped the Russians in Daghestan and Podolia and now are attacking on their own.

October 1751

Jedisan falls to me and I move to Moldova where I start a siege. I kick a thousand Turks out of Moldova in my first battle with any Ottoman army.

February 1752

Russia captures Armenia. Who ever lit a fire under the Russian’s butts I owe a debt of gratitude.

July1752

Georgia accepted peace with Pommern on the following terms. Georgia pays $3 in indemnities. It’s all I have in the treasury and they’re welcome to it. I didn’t have to do it but what the hell.

August 1752

We captured the province of Moldova from Ottoman Empire. Now I had planned to stop before I got this far but that was based of the Ottomans showing up in there usual large numbers but they still aren’t anywhere to be seen so I move to Bujak. Finally my curiosity gets the better of me and I check out the Ottomans. I see they have a +7 revolt event going on. Gee maybe that’s why they have been a pushover this war? Is this a scripted event? Whatever it is I’m going for the gusto. Watch out world here I come!

September 1752

France accepted peace with Spain on the following terms. France pays $43 in indemnities. Hmm abandoning the Pope?

September 1752

We have initiated a siege in Bujak.

December 1752

We took a loan. You know when I take a loan I’m getting serious. This chance is too good to pass up. I need the men because of the zero support level in Bujak.

February 1753

We lost a battle against Rebel Scum in Crimea. Rebels aren’t a problem right now but it’s starting.

March 1753

Ukraine and Russia are besieging Kurdistan. There’s no stopping these guys. Where the hell have they been in the earlier wars? Whatever they’re drinking get a patent on it!

June 1753

We won a battle against Rebel Scum in Crimea.

June1753

Papal States accepted peace with Spain on the following terms. Papal States pays $50 in indemnities.

August 1753

The people of Hungary declared independence from Ottoman Empire. And the heavens opened and the floodgates were thrown wide!

November1753

The people of Serbia declared independence from Ottoman Empire.

December 1753

The peasants in Kerch, Kouban and Azov are revolting! I’m going to have to get out of this war but I want Bujak first!

January 1754

The peasants in Crimea are revolting!

January 1754

We captured the province of Bujak from Ottoman Empire. Ottoman Empire accepted our generous peace offer. I took Crimea, Jedisan and Bujak from the Bastards! Ha! I do my knee knocking dance of triumph causing such a commotion that my wife in the other room wants to know if I’m all right.

“All right? Of course I’m all right. I just kicked the Turks derriere from Crimea to Bujak!”

She answers, “That’s nice dear.” And goes back to reading.

Bah women! What do they know of world conquest? I now spend the next several months putting down revolts.

February 1754

The people of Siebenbürgen declared independence from Ottoman Empire.

October 1754

We now pull up a chair and watch France implode.

The revolters in Berri, Orleanais, Maine and Guyenne have defected to the crown of Savoy.

January 1755

The people of Albania declared independence from Ottoman Empire. The steady drumbeat of freedom continues.

January 1755

Genoa accepted peace with Papal States on the following terms. Genoa pays $300 in indemnities. I love it.

March 1755

France continues to bleed. The revolters in Champagne have defected to the crown of Savoy.

March 1755

Russia declared war upon Poland. Ukraine and Georgia joined the war on the same side as Russia. Cyprus, Serbia and Hungary joined the war on the same side as Poland. A war I want nothing to do with. So what does Russia do in this war? They march 56,000 men to the Crimea and sit down. They can’t get to anyone in the war from the Crimea but here they sit. All they have to do is go to Moscowy and they can invade Poland but no they like Crimea. How do they go from brilliant to lunacy so quickly? At least they can put down any revolt there.

September 1755

The people of Wallachia declared independence from Ottoman Empire.

January 1756

The people of Sicily declared independence from Papal States. Damn it must be something in the air. Everyone’s revolting and declaring their independence. What are the odds that the Papal States AI will for a second time annex Sicily?

February1756

The Ottomans continue their downward spiral. The revolters in Konya have defected to the crown of Mameluks. Hurray! I have Konya back.

February 1756

Navarra entered a Military Alliance with Papal States and France. Navarra joined the war on the same side as Papal States and France in their war against Sicily.

March 1756

The revolters in Angora have defected to the crown of Mameluks. Another one!

The revolters in Kastamonu have defected to the crown of Mameluks. Make that three!

April 1756

The people of Brittany declared independence from France. Is there still a France? Time for the Pope to get another ally. Hmm, maybe Savoy? Savoy has 11 provinces now!

Papal States dishonored a Military Alliance she had with France and Navarra. Ya gotta love the Pope. He’s a cagey kind of guy isn’t he? He’s angling for an alliance with Savoy. I can feel it in my bones.

We have lost control over Crimea to Rebel Scum. You guessed it the Russians moved out and almost immediately Crimea revolted. This marked the start of another wave of rebellions. I wasn’t watching my war exhaustion and was caught by surprise. Not very bright but then I was celebrating Georgia’s victory with a good stiff drink.

May 1756

We have lost control over Azow to Rebel Scum. Needless to say I was all over Azov and Crimea. I want to get control over them as soon as possible.

Poland accepted our generous peace offer. A Status Quo peace. It took several months but the revolts quieted down.

February 1757

Sicily accepted peace with Papal States on the following terms. Sicily pays $6 in indemnities. Sicily to Papal States. Sicily will have to give up military access. Damn Messina escaped again. I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it. Maybe making them a vassal and hoping that the Pope will Diplo-annex them later?

Georgia is back in the race! Does anyone know if the Turks implode at this time all the time? What can I say? I was ready to go down with the ship and this happened. After almost two years of no meaningful numbers of Turks anywhere I knew that something very strange was going on. Well that and my brilliant plan of course. With the Turks hurting there is still a chance that Georgia will come out on top. That is if you know who doesn’t declare its independence.

Joe, you've resurrected the nearly dead! Wonderful play and writing. I have to say I was kind of counting Georgia out along with the others. Then you go on a rampage and kick some Turk bootie all over the place. Great job!

Looks like the Pope isn't the only who can fight - but does he have his own cheer? :D

Georgia, (pause) hold tight! (Clap)
Georgia! (clap) Let's fight!
That's it (pause) THROW THE RIGHT! (stomp)

Look out world (pause) we're back!
Black -n- Gray (clap) on attack!
Come on now (pause) PUSH 'EM BACK!

Awesome job Joe. Great update with lots of good lines - not enough time to grab 'em all. Leaving for San Diego and hoping to beat the traffic.
