Georgia has some tough times. Only land tech 13 in 1719:p and 49% inflation+hordes of Ottomans at the border. Goodnight Georgia I guess;)

Ow! That had to hurt. Was there much crying and drinking of strong spirits? I know I would, if it were me. I'd also gnash my teeth, and maybe random bursts of cursing. Nice writing, but a frightening round.

“You! Yes you with the big ears, no not you Backpack the other Dumbo. Stop coughing!”
Hey, I heard that!:D:D:D

Hopefully a Russian province or two will defect Georgia's way. Sounds like the Georgians are painted into a corner. If the Turk stays strong, it might be time to deploy the navy/marines for some amphibious ops. They probably won't hold anything but it would make for a good tale and a different challenge anyway.:)

OUCH

You were dealt a losing hand. Of course, that didn't stop you from starting the war, but your pair of TWOs couldn't hold up to the Turkish FULL HOUSE.

Well written!

"There is a God and he supports the Pope. Who would have thought?"

That pretty much says it all, I think! :D There are so many "signature worthy" lines in this it's almost scary. Hopefully the Mamelukes can survive a civil war coupled with war with every single neighbor...I'm sure it could be worse somehow. Right? :D

Speaking of utters, cows don’t have bigger utters than Russian soldiers! They pay the Turks to milk them. BAH!
Once more, some fine invective in your update. The worse your situation gets, the sweeter the language you use. :D

What can I say? A suicidal war (ended pretty well, all things considered) and some great writing! :)

Judge If you can believe me I haven’t given up on Georgia. All I have to do is get Russia to pull its weight and I’ll have a chance but time is running out.

Amric A little anger when the Russians quit and then just resignation at what was happing and what was going to happen. The whole turn was over by 1724 so I had plenty of time to mope about the injustice of it all.

Backpack In the early going I kept my fleet intact because I was planing on doing just that but then the Ottomans went and conquered even island in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and my plan at island hopping was screwed. However I don’t have much choice if Russia is going to continue being a pansy about going to war. The AI hasn’t built a ship for the last hundred years.

Stroph1 :D :D

Jwolf Yes I suppose it could have been worst and Crimea could have reappeared. That’s a scary thought. I’ve played to the point where I’ve posted so I don’t know how the Mameluks are doing or what will happen. The next post will be on Thursday so wish me luck.

Paranoid Tsar I’m hoping that I can do something positive with the Mameluks to wash away the pain of Georgia. :D

Stuyvesant I pretty much knew it was a suicidal war but I had to give it a try. I think when I’m not playing Georgia the wars probably go like this. The Ottomans DOW Georgia, march to Georgia, besiege the capital, capture it and ask for money and Georgia agrees etc. So I’m not worried about them being annexed by the Ottomans but I’m scratching my head trying to figure what I’m going to do to give them a chance at winning. I’m going to need outside help. I would join the Austrian alliance but they hate me and I don’t think I have enough money to change that.

Commandante Land tech is becoming a problem but I'll figure a way around it, maybe :D The mameluks have the same land tech but at least they have some money coming into their treasury. The Georgians are dirt poor. :(

Valdamar The Pope is looking stronger and stronger as the game goes on. I've just finished the next turn (Mameluks) and is was a little frustrating to put it mildly. Looking over toward Italy I saw some ominous changes. In fact nothing looked good for my three countries.

I may not be able to post today because of a massive load of work but I'll get the next chapter up by Friday at the latest.

I’m starting out with $121 in the treasury followed by 54% inflation. I have a couple of events and that ends up around 46% by the end of the turn.
I’m at 0 stability.
I’m in an alliance with Aden and Nogai. Aden is a vassal.
I’ve a slightly tarnished reputation. I guess I’ve been a good boy maybe too good.

Now for the bad news. I’m in two wars. The first is against Oman and Persia. The second is against the Ottomans and Pommern. All my allies are helping me out in both wars. Things are looking ugly with Azerbaijan besieged by Persia and the Ottomans. I’ve lost Konya to the Ottomans. Rebels control Medina. I have 8,000 Infantry and 61 cannon besieging Armenia. Why Armenia? Was the Ai going for the gold? I doubt it. It probably got drop kicked out of the black hole called Daghestan. I have a total of 5,000 Infantry scattered throughout my entire empire. So what’s a boy to do?

Goals: The Ottomans are the only one who controls victory provinces so that is where I’m going to focus my attention. Of course this might be problematic since there are around 40,000 Turks in sight with more coming but what the hell just wish me luck and let’s get going.

February 1729

We have initiated a siege in Trabzon.

We have lost control over Azerbaijan to Persia.

Mameluks accepted peace with Persia on the following terms. Mameluks pay $59 in indemnities. What was funny here is that as soon as Persia captured the province two windows popped open. The first was Persia asking for $50 for peace the second was Oman demanding Azerbaijan to Persia for peace. I politely declined the Oman offer.

March 1729

Sivas has been besieged by Ottoman Empire

May 1729

We have initiated a siege in Medina.

August 1729

Helvetia declared war upon Papal States. France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. This normally wouldn’t bother me but with the Papal States already at war with Austria I don’t need another war.

August 1729

We won a battle against Rebel Scum in Taurus. I only mention this to give you a feel for what was starting to happen in the land of revolts know as the Mameluks Empire or how I learned to love the color red.

September 1729

We have initiated a siege in Antalya.

March 1730

We have lost control over Sivas to Ottoman Empire. As you can see we are in the dueling siege part of the war and unfortunately the Turks were doing as well as I am. In fact they started asking for Sivas and Aleppo for peace. I was not amused.

March 1730

Aden accepted peace with Oman on the following terms. Aden pays $130 in indemnities. My allies are starting to bail on me.

April1730

We captured the province of Antalya from Ottoman Empire

April 1730

We have initiated a siege in Adana. Good old Adana. It does the heart good to revisit the site of so many fun sieges. Look the trenches are still where we left them. Ah, my old latrine looks as good as new although there do seem to be fewer flies.

May 1730

We have initiated a siege in Sivas.

Ottomans rejected our generous peace offer! I have a –23% war score with the Ottomans so I went with a Status Quo offer just to spite them.

June 1730

Genoa declared war upon Papal States. Spain joined the war on the same side as Genoa. France joined the war on the same side as Papal States. Sigh, again. Who’s going to pay whom this time? There’s fire and smoke in several Italian provinces. I can smell the smoke from here.

July 1730

Mameluks accepted peace with Oman on the following terms. Mameluks pay $50 in indemnities. Okay so I take dead aim on the Ottomans. I’m cranking out men as fast as I can and I’m not doing too bad but it’s still a trade one siege for another kind of war. Most of the Ottoman armies are too large for me to fight since I have to try to recapture lost provinces as well as try to capture his provinces. The Ottomans twice kicked me out of a siege by throwing two or three 5-6,000-man armies at me. This destroyed my timetable for success. Success, who am I kidding?

July 1730

We have initiated a siege in Medina. This cost me 11,000 Infantry because of the small fort but I want to recapture rebel held provinces as soon as I can.

August 1730

Antalya has been besieged by Ottoman Empire

September 1730

France accepted peace with Eire on the following terms. Return to Status Quo. France is starting to abandon the Pope.

December 1730

Azerbaijan has been besieged by Ottoman Empire

January 1731

Helvetia accepted peace with France on the following terms. Helvetia pays $41 in indemnities. Helvetia will have to give up military access. The Pope is still at war with Helvetia.

January 1731

We have lost control over Antalya to Ottoman Empire. I’m starting to realize that I’m not going to be able to capture enough provinces to over come the Ottomans victory score. More of my resources are going into handling the increasing rebellions.

February 1731

Papal States accepted peace with Genoa on the following terms. Papal States pays $200 in indemnities. Ouch, damn expensive.

March 1731

Konya has been besieged by Ottoman Empire

April 1731

France accepted peace with Austria on the following terms. France pays $66 in indemnities. Not good. Not good at all. Now the Papal States is facing Austria alone. Anyone know any good derogatory terms for the French? How about toad lickers? Snail suckers? They just aren’t high on the pope’s social list right now.

April 1731

We captured the province of Sivas from Ottoman Empire. The ping-pong game continues.

April 1731

Papal States accepted peace with Spain on the following terms. Papal States pays $50 in indemnities. The Pope’s still buying his way out. Hey he’s got deep pockets in those robes he wears.

May 1731

We have lost control over Azerbaijan to Ottoman Empire.

July 1731

Wave of Obscurantism happened to us. +3 revolt risk. That my friend was the straw that broke the Mameluks’ camel’s back. My revolt risk jumped to 6%-7% and the dam gates were open and the reservoir was full. I’ll elaborate later. Right now I need a good cry.

July 1731

We have initiated a siege in Angora. I keep gamely fighting on. Never say die and all that crap. Don’t they usually say, never say die, just before they die?

August 1731

Sivas has been besieged by Ottoman Empire

Mameluks accepted peace with Ottoman Empire on the following terms. Mameluks pays $50 in indemnities. Mameluks will have to give up military access.

Just a trifled peeved about this but I had to face reality and let me tell you reality is an ugly old broad. Her tits hang to her knees and her breath smells like my cats breath after licking her butt. But I’m not upset. I mean it’s only 1731 right? There’s plenty of time, right? Read on dear reader and see a man dreams turn into nightmares.

Just to compact the coming years theses are the provinces that revolted.
Arabia, Delta, Lebanon, Kirkuk, Judea, Samaria, Konya, Syria and Azerbaijan.

This doesn’t show the multi in province revolts or the capture the province and march next door to besiege that province. It doesn’t even cover the other country’s rebels marching into my country and besieging a province or two. In fact it doesn’t even cover the declaration of independence… oh that’s a surprise, forget I said that.

Next is the list of provinces that I lost to the rebels.

We have lost control over Iraq, Arabia, Jordan, Judea, Mekkah, Lebanon, Samaria, Delta, Konya. I took until November 1735 to put down all the rebels but there were still some repercussions to relate to you.

June 1732

Austria accepted peace with Papal States on the following terms. Mantua, Piemonte and Romagna to Austria. Oh the Pope took a knockout blow this time. Will he get up off the mat or not? What a shiner he’s going to have tomorrow. Three provinces lost is not something I expected.

October1732

Eire accepted peace with Papal States on the following terms. Eire pays $27 in indemnities. Someone lost to the Papal States? During this dark and gloomy time this single ray of sunshine gave me hope, NOT.

October 1733

Russia entered a Military Alliance with Georgia. Ah the little girly men are back. Well I hope they hitch up their skirts and really fight next time.

January 1734

The people of Iraq declared independence from Mameluks. Just great. I mean this really pissed me off. I’m not going to let them get away with it! I think I actually put a dent in my computer monitor. I didn’t know you could do that. Well live and learn. I wonder if I can put two dents in it?

February1734

A White Peace was signed between Papal States and Helvetia and Bavaria. I think they are finally at peace. Broken physically and spiritually but at peace. Boy am I looking forward to playing them next turn.

February 1734

We have initiated a siege in Iraq.

February 1734

Ukraine entered a Military Alliance with Georgia and Russia. Why am I not optimistic about that alliance?

July 1734

We have initiated a siege in Arabia. We have initiated a siege in Mekkah. Just cleaning up on the last of the rebels.

August 1734

Iraq accepted our generous peace offer. Annexed again suckers! I squat down with 41,000 Infantry and dig in to stay.

I start looking around to see what my next goal should be. Since the Pope has imploded I have a comfortable lead so I’m not going to do anything foolish. Now there’s North Africa that keeps drawing on my imagination. Tripoli is a one-province country with 25,000 men and a Medium fort. Taking on their army is a minor problem. It’s the medium fort in a low support province that’s the problem. But being the upbeat person I am I start recruiting men for the task. I mean how hard can North Africa be anyway? Well it might be a little problem since Spain has captured a couple of the provinces there but I’ll worry about that later.

November1734

The people of The Hedjaz declared independence from Mameluks. We have initiated a siege in Mekkah. We have initiated a siege in Arabia. *&$! As I watch my turn fade away I wonder what might have been if only if I hadn’t started out in two wars? This was pure crap. I was already besieging the provinces but I couldn’t capture them in time. This is why I was using men during the war to try to recapture the rebel held provinces. All I can say is take a deep breath and press on.

March 1735

Conversion of Heretics happened to us. Syria is Sunni.

June 1735

We captured the province of Arabia from The Hedjaz

November 1735

We captured the province of Mekkah from The Hedjaz. I take Mekkah and get military access. Oh and the Hedjaz are now my vassal. Since I have the lead in the race I decide to improve my defenses instead of trying to expand. I order upgrades to the forts in Sivas and Konya. Just trying to make it a little harder for the Turks next time and there will be a next time.

August 1736

France declared war upon Dakota. A study in stupidly by a master.

January 1737

Meanwhile back at the ranch I sit here watching the Hedjaz start recruiting men. They impress me with their gun-ho enthusiasm and I start sending letters of introduction and a few state gifts. After several gifts I have successfully raised our relations from –75 to –51. WHAT? About this time it occurs to me to look at my king’s rating and I notice that they are piss poor. I finally give up and just before I’m about to ignore the jerks I figure what the hell I’ll ask them into my alliance. Well even with a –51 relation they agreed! I send some more gifts and they have a great effect on improving our relations. The Hedjaz now have over 20,000 men thanks to my funding efforts hopefully I have tied them to me tighter than a miser clutching his money.

October 1738

Oman declared war upon Aden. Persia joined the war on the same side as Oman. Nogai, Hedjaz and Mameluks joined the war on the same side as Aden. Hell why not? The turns over and I have the Mameluks at +3 stability so as a reward I’ll let them play.

November 1738

Our land technology increased to Renaissance (14). We will be much more efficient in combat. Finally some good news! There's still hope!

You know this reminds me of playing golf. I’ll play 17 holes and beat the crap out of the golf ball. I’ll hit it places that mankind has never explored. I’ll slice it so deep in the woods that even the deer don’t go there to die. And then on the 18th hole I’ll hit a real golf shot. One putt the green and walk away with birdie thinking that maybe I’ve finally got the hang of this game. Hope springs eternal.

Victory count 11

Not the most pleasent turn to play. I was surprised you got out of that war without more damage.

I guess that fact that the bigger two had troubles gives some hope to the sick child known as Georgia.

Enjoying your tale a lot!

Joe,

Very entertaining to read but it's got to be getting rough on the nerves/patience to keep playing under those conditions.

Well a dent in the monitor is a small price to pay for that....I can't find the words. Great installment, even with the crushing revolts, rebellions and massive Turk armies blundering about like a pain crazed elephant in a china shop...

Reading this paragraph really brought home your despair and bitterness. Surely you were exaggerating, I innocently thought. After all, it's not like you LOST any provinces... :p

Then I read how the Pope got kicked in the 'nads. With steelcapped construction boots. Three times. All of a sudden, you made perfect sense. :D

Still... It's entertaining for us to read about your mishaps, that must cheer you up, right? :p

Stroph1 I in my usual sloppy way didn’t bother to check out the victory % at the start of the turn. I thought I could overcome anything that the AI would throw at me. It was quite a shock when I saw the –23%! I had already turned down an offer of $50 and military access for peace and then the AI starting asking for two provinces. I thought I was screwed. Luckily right after the revolt event it let me off the hook. Georgia benefited by the Mameluks distracting the Ottomans and now with the Pope reeling from the Austrians anything can happen. Stay turned.. :D

Backpack What nerves? I burned them out when Crimea popped up the third time. :D

Amric The Ottomans surprised me in how well they did. Having only 10,000 men to start with hurt but the fact that the Ottomans kept capturing provinces made it impossible to recover enough victory points to make a meaningful difference. Well with the fort upgrades hopefully it will slow them down next time.

Stuyvesant I have the same attitude about this game as I do with golf. Don’t take it seriously and you’ll have a lot of fun. Glad you’re enjoying my pain. :D :D

I love this AAR! I esp. like the writing style (like a log with smart-arsed comments). Heck, I like everything about it: the goals, the multiple countries, the dictionary gimmick.

GB

P.S. I really should take more time out to tell people how much I like their AARs...consider me a representative of all the lurkers enjoying this. :)
