And the outsider comes through on the rails! Cheers for Sicily, and I hope you enjoyed steamrolling the Timurids with a superpower to back you up. After all they've put you through, you deserved some payback.

As for Japan - Owwwch. Not fun, not fun at all. I didn't think Japan had much of a shot, but you deserved the chance to make a go of it.
That has got to be the worst feature of the EU3 AI - the way it simply does not care about stability or revolt risk and runs countries into the ground with stupid DOWs and accumulated war exhaustion.

Here's hoping the TO at least lets you go out with a bang!

What can I say? The AI let you down, there. Not much fun, just revolt after revolt after revolt. And so Japan slides off the stage.

While I expect war with Sicily would have left Japan in the same position (disappearing from contention), the way of getting there would have been far more spectacular and entertaining. Instead of merely crumbling, Japan would've positively imploded. Much more fun to watch safely from the sidelines. :D

Still, there's still the Teutonic Order to watch for... Better luck with that turn.

Chief Ragusa - If I played Japan again I would get into an alliance with Ming. I don't care if I had to make a pact with the devil. I didn’t do it in this game because I thought I could go around them and I was successful in doing that but I needed a large ally to help me take down Timurid. I just didn’t think I had enough money at the start of the game to send enough gifts (60 ducats a gift) to make it a viable way to go. Besides making alliances in EU3 is something I have had little to no luck in doing.

Stnylan - The AI had it’s share of successes. In fact it’s exceeded my expectations. But it is erratic to put it mildly.

Murmurandus - The TO does do better but then looking at Japan’s turn that’s not saying much is it? :D

Excel - All three countries did a good job of holding on to what I conquered and Japan did a good job on expanding in the same direction. Sicily and the Teutonic Order had a difference of an opinion on what our priorities were going to be. Still they didn’t to too bad. The problems were that their strategic abilities would be sound one time and crazy the next time and their inability to adjust to the changing situation was a problem. For example with an expanding empire the AI should adjust it’s mania on going innovative.

Insanity Boy - Don’t give up so soon. I admit that the TO have a difficult time ahead of them but they could still win. Well all right it’s a long shot but I refuse to give up.

J. Passepartout - Then you’d be disappointed if the TO wins? Well stay tuned.

Coz1 - Japan may have struck out but I think the TO may be able to step up to the plate and hit one out of the park. Maybe. . .

Aldriq - I agree about Sicily’s initial position but I was surprised that it’s economy was not the barn burner that I thought it would be. They had those rich provinces in Northern Italy but Sicily wasn’t able to generate as much wealth as Japan much less the Teutonic Order. It wasn’t until late in the game that their money woes disappeared. I was forced to get involved in North Africa for two reasons. First the bastards kept declaring war against me and the second reason is I needed any thing to increase my size and power if I was going to impress Timurid and stop them from going stubborn on me.

Ahura Mazda - It was worst playing that turn. :D

Merrick - I agree they really should do a patch and deal with the stability problem. Oh the TO does let me bang away but, well I won’t say right now but the TO’s turn ends in an unexpected way.

Germanpeon - I’m not sure you want to read about the TO’s turn. :(

Stuyvesant - I’ve never had that many revolts, ever. I did have more luck with the TO but then whether it was bad or good luck you’ll have to wait to find out. :D

1763 Teutonic Order

Impossible isn’t in my vocabulary. But unlikely, farfetched, implausible, a snow ball’s chance in hell, are in my vocabulary.

1763overview.jpg
.
Okay so we have the usual situation but at least I’m at peace. However it’s the -3 stability that grabs my attention. If I’m going to succeed in taking the goal from Sicily I’m going to have to go through Timurid to do it, which means getting up to -2 stability and declaring war and then for a second time climbing back up to -2 stability to DOW Sicily. That’s not very likely so I’m thinking that I could try the bribe routine that’s worked before and that may be a more realistic way to go but I don’t have a lot of money and I need to keep the stability slider as far right as I can so let’s just say I’m between a rock and a hard place. You can see why.
1763-2stability.jpg

1767 is the quickest I’m going to be able to climb up to -2 and god knows how long it will take to do it again. Still let’s take one step at a time.

1763military.jpg

As you can see I have 87 regiments but I’m only supporting 56. I’ve got a lot of depleted regiments in my army and hopefully I can replace those loses before 1767 and the next war. Hmm 54 infantry to 24 cavalry regiments. I do something I rarely do and I dismiss a number of regiments with zero manpower. (I think it was around a dozen)

I’m trying to figure out how to get around the problem that Sicily is allied with Burgundy.
1763Burgundy.jpg

Our relations are at +175 and I check to see if they will join my alliance but it says impossible so that’s not going to work. I give them military access just to sweeten the pot but I don’t think it’s going to be enough to keep them out of the coming war. I’m also worried that they will take the lead in the war when I DOW Sicily. I also have military access with Aragon and that is important for my plans but they are also allied with Sicily and when I go to war with Sicily I'll lose that. Sigh, well there are too many things to worry about so let’s concentrate of the goal.

1763target.jpg

It’s going to be a long march but if Sicily could do it then the TO can do it.

But first I look around and see this.
1763fleet.jpg

What are these guys up to? I see that Diego Garcia has been recaptured from rebels by the AI and a fleet of 33 ships is sitting offshore but why are these ships sitting off the coast of Timurid? Was the AI planing on attacking Timurid again? With the amount of attrition they are suffering I’m not going to be able to get them back to Diego Garcia’s port, which is a pain because they are all the transports I have in the entire fleet

At least there is one bright spot. All my armies are in the Eastern part of my empire so I won’t have to march them for several months just to get to the front line.
1763armymoves.jpg

Oh and how could I forget to mention that my revolt risk is at between 17.5 and 19.5 percent. Oh joy. But I don’t give a rats ass what it is. I’ve got a mission this turn and I mean to accomplish it.

So I’m adjusting my economy sliders and just checking out what’s going on when Sibir declares war on me. WTF! I wasn’t expecting it because I’d just made peace with Timurid but I forgot that Sibir agreed to a peace agreement years ago. So my problem about climbing to -2 stability twice has just been solved. Riga joins me and Timurid joins Sibir. The only problem is I’m really not ready for a fight right now but I’m not going to let that stop me. I plan on knocking Sibir out of the war ASAP so that I an concentrate on Timurid.

At least this gives me a chance to use those men off the coast of Timurid.
1763landing.jpg
.

I take a quick look at my war capacity and it doesn’t look so go for the home team.
1763warcapacity.jpg

I didn’t have to wait long for Timurid to make a move and they attack the TO.
1763firstblood.jpg

But I repelled that attack and a follow up attack This battle front went quiet after these attacks and gave me the opportunity to concentrate of Sibir.

I quickly invaded and started a siege in almost all of Sibirs provinces, which brought them to their senses and in May 1763 they asked for a white peace and I agreed. Now I focused my attention on Timurid who going to be a far more difficult nut to crack.

It took until November 1763 before I had my men in place for the attack. What was my target?
1763attack.jpg
.
Herat of course. I planned on following Sicily’s lead and attack deep into the interior of Timurid however my goal was different. I didn’t want to grab a province in a peace deal to use as a launching pad for an attack on Sicily. Nah that would be too easy. My plan was a tad more complicated but more on that later.

I'm not even going to speculate on your latest stroke of genius (or should that be 'hare-brained scheme'? They're so close together, after all), since I'm chronically incapable of predicting your plans. :)

Also not going to note how it's pretty low to leave basically in mid-update (I just did? Whoops...).

I will say that it's nice to see that the Teutons have some fight left in them, and that Sibir was obliging enough to give you a shot at the Timurids. So far so good (which is probably the reason why you stopped where you did - best to leave all the nastiness for another update). :)

Good for the Teutonic Order and its recapture of Diego Garcia. I suspect the fleet commander was looking for the fabled Timurid canal, to sail back to TO land through Timuria. Could the TO be trying for a KO of the Timurids? Vassalize!

The BWB is back! Change of colour and, hey presto, and the blob returns to its normal ways absorbing the Ottomans with alarming sspeed and ease. Now if they were allies of the Order, the war against Sicily might actually be won. Who am I kidding? The TO is going to run out of time and no-one wants to ally with them.

Somehow, I think the Sicilians will not have to face Teutonic Knights and will be the surprise winners. Both Japan and the Order had much too much inflation and never reached the necessary tech to reduce inflation. The Order is in the least favourable starting strategic position. In this case, being friends with Lithuania from the get go would have helped immensely.

Perhaps the AI has caught on to your plan and was preparing to do the exact same thing. Sure, that's it. Right.

Now, another en masse attack into the interior sounds about right. But I admit, I was a bit shocked to see Herat as the destination. Very interesting.

Fair enough, I forgot that the TO are actually quite good at trade. Despite all your efforts and the continuous -3 stability they still have merchants going.

Are we going to see rivers of Teutonic and Timurid blood in the next update?

I like complicated plans! Though it does strike me that this means Sicily is more likely retain the province, all things considered.

I confess I don't see where you are headed... wait, I mean I don't see the method you intend to use to get to BadBoyIsStan and then wrench it from the grasping clutches of Sicily. Assuming rebels don't intervene I mean.

Whatever it takes... Go Go GI Joe! :D

Lard tunderin' Jesus and here I am. All caught up. This has been a great ride, Joe. Who'd a thunk Sicily would be first in? Not me. And I'm not sure if the AI wasn't privy to your plans all along. They certainly seemed to throw up the proper roadblocks at the proper time and leave you with such loving messes to mop up. Couldn't make it easy for you, that's for sure.

Now I can give these old eyes a rest and read your updates as they happen.

Great work!
