After a good nights sleep I returned to the game and I’m feeling rejuvenated and ready for the challenge, kind of. I’m finally able to hire mercenaries again so I’m ready to rumble with Timurid once again.
They renew their attacks in the Mediterranean Sea and I have to hunt them down like the dogs that they are. Felt kind of good if you ask me.
Meanwhile I’ve taken a defensive posture in the Middle East as I repel repeated attacks from Timurid.
Persia also attacks putting additional pressure on my front lines but I’m able to defeat them and counter attack into Basra where I win the battle and start a siege. I’m sending peace offers to Persia just asking for one province but they keep refusing the offer so the war continues.
In 1720 I have the chance to select a New National Idea and I select Glorious Arms. I need the prestige from land battle +33% because the enemy has better leaders than I have and since I’m using more and more mercenaries its hell to raise my land score enough to get anything above mediocre leaders. Also in January I finally get up to -2 stability and right after that I get one of those god given events that make you kick up your heels and dance for joy as I get +3 to mu stability. My stability level is now at +1, I can’t remember when it was this high and I feel like my head is in the clouds and I’m breathing rarified air.
Still early in 1720 the front heats up and battles are almost constant. I’m able to win most of the battles and hang on to what I have for now.
In May of 1720 Kazan declares war on the Teutonic Order. Kazan has grown rather large at the expense of Moscowy so this may not be an easy war. Yemen declares war against Persia. Perhaps this will distract them enough for me to win the war?
All through 1720 Timurid attacks but I’m able to stop them and slowly replace my loses. In addition I’ve split my fleet so that I can ferry mercenaries to the Middle East and still hunt down those pesky Timurid fleets.
Finally in October 1720 Persia agrees to give me Murgan for peace. I now have a permanent border with Timurid. However that creates this strange situation.
The Timurid army which was besieging Hamadan that I captured during the war with Persia has to leave once I reached a peace agreement with Persia and they retreat through a province that I’m besieging without having to fight. Just thought that was strange.
December 1720 and Makassar revolts and declares war against Japan. Odds are they will keep their new found independence and at this point in the game it doesn’t matter.
So how is the war going between Austria and the Teutonic Order? Lets look shall we.
By 1721 I’m finally able to start my offense again and attack i to Dash-I-Lut just as I reach land tech 21.
In June 1721 Lithuania declared war against the Teutonic Order. Ouch, ouch, ouch.
In August 1721 I get a message that Riga joined in an alliance with the Teutonic Order? I didn’t see a message but I wonder if Austria demanded that the Teutonic Order release Riga for peace?
By the end of the year I’m making steady if slow progress against Timurid. So I figure what the hell lets do a little raid in force and see what there is to see.
In early 1722 I get my first decent leader in god knows how many decades. Fire 1, shock 5, siege 1, maneuver 0. Before Glorious Arms I wasn’t getting anything remotely this good, which shows you how bad my leaders were.
My raiding force has finally reached Badakhshan so I figure why not besiege it. While I’m there I discover where the Timurid are raising their reinforcements. Altogether there were over 20,000 men in these three provinces.
And as you can see on the left the Timurid was attacking in Fars with over 10,000 men. The Timurid seemingly have no limits to their manpower.
Sweden offered me an alliance, which I turned them down but I snuck a peak at TOs war and saw this.
Not looking good for the good guys.
