germanpeon – I handled Austria so easily by just falling down and crying like a baby. They took pity on me and just took one province.
With the Timurids ‘persistence’ was the key.
Deus – The Timurid show no signs of slowing down. For every man they lose they send two replacements. This is the first war where I haven’t reached a point where I thought I’d turned the corner and it was all over but the shouting. Still if I was just playing the TO I would eventuality be able to break them. As it is all I can hope for is that the AI for the TO keeps the war going long enough for Sicily to be ready to step up to the plate and start beating Timurid over their head with a big bat.
The two front war wasn’t too bad to handle except for one mistake that sealed my fate in the West. I used my single army in the West to attack a small Austrian army besieging one of my provinces. They won the battle but I left them in that province, which was a mistake. My attention was focused in the East when Austria counter attacked and before I knew what hit me I lost the battle and found myself with just over 2,000 men left in that army. So I no longer had any credible force left in the West. That was just before I offered a sacrificial province for peace.
Insanity Boy – Since I’ve just played the first 5 years of Sicily’s turn I’ll take that bet and raise it to $100 that the Teutonic Order gets more than a white peace.
Boyss – I’ve found that the AI becomes more stubborn with the more it gets as a war score. (I know obvious) I’ve had experiences where the AI grabs a couple of provinces and asks for one in a peace agreement and I turn them down because I’m sure I can win if I just try a little longer. The problem is if the AI continues to take a couple of more provinces then it can start asking for more and get ‘really stubborn’ about it. I didn’t want to let the AI get anywhere close to a war score where it could go ‘stubborn’ on me. So I rolled over and played dead.
Murmurandus – I didn’t have much choice when the Timurid refused my peace offer. Let’s see, I left Japan with a +24% war score and they gave away a province for peace and the Teutonic Order has a +31% war score. Maybe they will do better than Japan?
oddman – Yes Badakhshan is the target. Ming has been very quiet for the last few decades. Maybe it’s fallen asleep (I hope)? It hasn’t expanded ant toward the West for some time but if Timurid starts falling apart will Ming join in on the fun?
Chief Ragusa – So far Timurid is doing a good job of putting down revolts. I’ve seen no more that two provinces at a time revolt away and they are recaptured by Timurid before they can defect to another country of declare independence. I fear they are a long way from imploding.
Gotland is a hair on a hairy wart on the face of an ugly woman. How ugly is she? She so ugly when she walks by a bathroom all the toilets flush.
Sicily can’t walk to the Teutonic Order but then they don’t have to for my master plan (or whatever it’s called) to work.
aldriq – Let’s not even whisper the name Ming. If they become involved I’m in deep trouble.
coz1 - I think the program has a hiccup that causes armies to disappear. It’s rare but I’ve heard of it happening to others.
Ahua Mazda – A funny thing happened to Sicily on the way to the war. More on that at the end of this post.
Amric – Well the TO did get something in the war but not that province. Hey I saw a two star artist advisor while playing Sicily. Finally! They do exist!
Vann the Red – Ground Chuck was one of the more entertaining coach’s when it came to interviews. And he sure liked to run the ball didn’t he!
Fulcrumvale – All I want the AI to do it keep Timurid at war. How hard can that be? Well we’ll find out soon.
Indiana_Jojo – I agree after Japan I was thinking that I was in big trouble. The Teutonic Order and Sicily, because of Terra Incognito, couldn’t realistically get to the goal and Japan was too weak so it looked like I was out of luck. Fortunately that’s changed. I agree with your assessment on what Sicily needs to do but. . . Well more on this at the end of the post.
Director – Luckily Sicily is allied with Burgundy and so I don’t think Austria will bother them but the Teutonic Order stands alone so another war could happen between them. I tried sending gifts to Austria while playing TO but it was costing 60 ducats a shot and I was only improving our relation 1-5 points at a time so I said screw this crap and stopped. It should be interesting to see if the TO can do better against Austria than I did.
Merrick – Mecklenburg was besieged by Saxony and I didn’t want to wait for it to fall because Austria was invading too many of my provinces so I couldn’t wait any longer. I think there also might be a COT in Mecklenburg but I’m not sure.
Actually I don’t know who Badakhshan will join but you’re probably right but I’m planning, or should I say hoping, to capture the province and sit on it so if Timurid breaks I will get it. Right now everything is in the early stages so I don’t know if any of this will work. Wish me luck.
Okay so I’ve played the first five years as Sicily and all I’ll say is that the turn was replete with WTF moments. I wrote most of the turn down as things were happening because I wanted to capture the true essence of what it means to be F**KED over in the game while downing glasses of vodka tonics and punching the space bar (cats weren’t around, sly little buggers) because I can’t believe what I’m seeing. To say that things didn’t go quite according to my plans would be as descriptive as saying ‘she who will not be denied’ possibly has doubts as to my sincerity when I say “Yes dear whatever you say dear”. I’d better stop here before I disclose a story so hideous, so twisted and vile that my overactive imagination is already working overtime on a conspiracy theory to explain it that will take your breath away by the sheer audacity of it. In others words I’m making it up as I go along.
Not a happy camper.
