Just sayin' but the mods here treat "Kebab" as a racial slur.
If it is a slur for Turks and Arabs? Would Pierogi be a slur for Russians and Poles, then?
I'm half German half Polish. Feel free to call me a Kraut Pierog, its silly and kinda dumb but go for it. And calling me a Burgerstan because I'm an American would just make me laugh. Actually one of my buddies is nicknamed Burger, so yeah, still don't get your outrage. So? WTF? Okay, let's we all call other's country as their meals. Hey, where is my Burgerstan?

It's less of a slur than it is an internet meme.Kebab, (Persian: کباب), (also kebap or kabab) is a Middle Eastern dish of pieces of meat, fish, or vegetables roasted or grilled on a skewer or spit[1] originating in the Middle East,[2][3] and later adopted in Central Asia and by the regions of the former Mongol Empire and later Ottoman Empire, before spreading worldwide.
WTF are you guys talking about? Oh yeah, I had one 2 weeks ago at a Persian restaurant.

Look, there are nicknames and there are messed up slurs. Trust me, if being named after the national food of your country is the greatest of your worries then you are experiencing 1st world problems.Wow, interesting. But thanks I don't do it. And never did. Because of esteem to others.

There are people starving to death, who'd love to have your problems. There are people dying of thirst because they dare not drink polluted water and watching their children die of easily curable diseases, who wouldn't flinch to trade places with you. There are entire nations watching brutal monsters rape, maim, and lynch their families, they have REAL problems.
You and I being nicknamed after food, which is abundant in our countries, that's not a real problem, that's a blessing and we should be thanking God for being as lucky as we are, before we next go to sleep. Its all about perspective, trust me laughing it off is easy because tomorrow you'll still be sitting comfortably behind your computer, instead of fearing where your next meal is coming from and whether or not your family is safe.
Maybe you should take forum rules more seriously if you intend to stay here for long.Boohoo. Words hurt my tootoo.
The main issue with kebab is that we all know which video that meme came from, and the sensitive context of 'remove kebab'. Many forums probably don't know where the Balkan area is, but this is a history forum...
So how long has it been a sensitive word? We're talking 50-100 years? Or is this something only pimple faced teenagers would know? The main issue with kebab is that we all know which video that meme came from, and the sensitive context of 'remove kebab'. Its sensitive on a history forum with many participants from different backgrounds. Get over it, You could use it in your daily life and people wouldn't care, but just on this forum its inappropriate. So how long has it been a sensitive word? We're talking 50-100 years?
