First of all, before any kind of critical review, and of any kind of nice/negative comment towards the mod, let me just thank Fernando Torres and the rest of the crew who have brought us Darkest Hour, it's amazing mod, and the good support that people (mostly) receive on this forum.
Now, let me tell you some good things.
- i like the new secret weapon mods. When Fernando Torres asked on the forum if people would like to get new, historical event driven events, i was a bit skeptical of the whole ordeal, but i feel that they are pretty well balanced.
- good list of new events, like the Rationing event, a good little trigger that does a good job of drawing you in. Perhaps give some other negative effect rather than just a little dissent, though.
- no more crashing. This is the best thing about the mod, by far.
- more balanced build time. I dont know if you changed something about the building speed of units, but by may '41 i have a realistically large MOT/ARM army of 160 divs and about 35 garrisons to man the russian front, instead of the old nearly 200 MOT/ARM force i could muster in the older, harder version of WIF.
- Russia is certainly a lot more realistically balanced, and i praise you for that, since that was the biggest complaint people had about the mod, the overwhelming power of the soviet hydra. And the new objective system is also great.
- France is no longer the pushover she was in HOI2 and to a lesser degree in DH vanilla. I did a nofog cheat on my first game as germany (which i won, by the way, with few casualties) and by 1940 june they had 180 divs, significantly more than i had available, and this added to the nearly 40 british divs that landed to support the french and the netherlands, as well as the accompanying divs of belgium and netherlands proper, i had one hell of a challenge, that was perfectly and realistically balanced.
- There arent any things that i dislike so far about the gold WIF2 version. Perhaps one thing would be the R-4 plan that the brits do in order to attack norway, only to end up not even landing on norway and giving germany a new ally.
- the american, and to a lesser degree the UK AI still wantonly butcher their own divs by landing massive forces overseas despite having no convoys available to supply said armies, the result being that the enemy starves to death and loses the equivalent of 100 divs by simple starvation. The americans are the biggest failures when it comes to convoy attacks, since they will deply hundreds of divs overseas in places like greenland or crete, only to lose them eventually to hunger.
- The UK needs to keep more divs on their islands than on Africa, methinks. They will have a good number of 130 divs and some armored divs, only to keep 15 divs on the UK, easily overwhelmed by my forces.
- Please, create some free upkeep british garrisons along all the coastlines, so as to avoid the old exploit of Airborne Assault-amphibious landing combo.
- China is still the hotbed mess that it is. This abstract war scenario has been weird since the HOI2 days, and i dont expect a fix. To be honest, in my test game, the japanese eventually DOW'd the americans close to the historical date (aug or sep of '41)
The rest, i like it. Good job with the mod.
