So i usually take enduring on my species, but now its been nerfed to 15 years rather than 30 i wondering if it better to take Talented instead, so i will recruit leaders slightly more often but they will be lvl2 to start with.

Thoughts?

I knew that venerable got nerfed, but enduring? Ugh, was one of my favourite traits as well.

Harmony tree gives 20 extra years straight away, so maybe it is better to take talented instead.

The Lifespan traits propably got nerfed because there is now new options to increase the lifespan.

Both traits are what I call "leader Focussed", but the work very differently:
Lifespan gives the leader more time to level and thus gain additional traits* you can use for longer.

Talented does lessen how many levels they can aquire, but it will not be a critical nerf to thier ability to get Traits:
http://www.stellariswiki.com/Leader#Experience
So on the usability for leaders it will be a toss up.

However, lifespan also ties into the Influence Balance:
The more you have to recruit, the more Influence will be wasted onto leaders. You can life with short lifespans if you got good Faction income (Egalitarian, Parlamentary System). But not if you are Influecne Starved (Hive Minds).

*Research leaders do not gain traits from Leveling. But being able to keep the ones with the right traits longer is a advantage too.

That seems like the opposite of what they should do, though. The longer you can get lifespans without these traits, the less the traits really benefit you.

Unless there's stuff that boosts lifespan by a percentage, but that doesn't generally seem to be true.

Trying out Talented and not really having a problem with influence for recruiting more often (playing as democracy so its easy to get 250 inf every 10 years). Its nice, but i think i prefer quick leaner and Enduring.

While enduring is only 15 years now, its still actually quite a long time, especially with leaders at level 5 which is where you want them for the longest time. And getting to level 2 is so quick anyway.

Leveling outside of research give traits. That's why at the beginning of a new game I put scientists with survey traits to research and scientists with research traits to survey.

Indeed. Training them in Science ships with Survey or Research Assist is a nice trick to get more traits from them.

I picked Venerable trait and increased lifespan via couple other ways. The emperor I started my game with died when he was 226 years old. I never played Stellaris with this trait pre Utopia so can't compare. But what I noticed is that leaders get Arrested Development penalty much more often now. Or maybe I was just very unlucky with my first game in Utopia...
