Apart from this, there is pretty much no flavor in the game - no option to build the Kiel Canal (even though the options to build Panama and Suez are there), pretty much no custom events for any nation - apart from the broken civil war mechanics in the US.
Arguably the Kiel Canal does not make since with the way that naval movement is set up in game, as the Baltic and North Seas are already directly connected. Unlike Red and Eastern Mediterranean Seas or Centroamerican and Western Caribbean Seas.

To me it reads more like they ran out of time trying to get it to work the way that they wanted it to.
Our two readings coexist in perfect harmony: the system was incomprehensible, and making it not incomprehensible was going to be way too much work given the planned schedule.

If this is the way it's going to be, I'm just going to wait until the whole package is like $60. The game today is like an empty shell.

Remember how well that went for Imperator? The flavor packs didn't matter because the base game had no flavor, and by the time they fixed it two years later, it was too late.

I'm not very concerned about war, because it's probably easy to fix, I'm worried that every country plays the same, just like in I:R. That is unfixable.

And players who wait and don't care about hype, won't buy it. In two years the game will be dead.

I would be interested in seeing how these "unique IGs" could be represented in game, without harming the main gameplay loop of IGs.

OK, here's a challenge for you:

Try to play Johore like you play Prussia.

Let me know how that goes for you.

Better Spain like Austria, or Brasil like Prussia, or USA like UK, or France like Ottomans, or Russia like Persia.

I chose a deliberately extreme example (a militarily strong European industrial power vs. an unrecognized one-state minor in SEA) because I'm trying to get some kind of clarity on how people are saying with a straight face that all countries play the same :)

I doubt it was cut. More like they ran out of time and budget to incorporate those things, or they were originally planned to be eventually released as DLC and have just some slight work done on it before release.

''So at this point it seems pretty obvious that large amounts of content was cut''

Sure, of course, they made a much larger game and then cut out half to sell back to you later. And they even left the proof for you to find, Sherlock Holmes.

Why? Because they are evil and they hate you and this game is a quick cash grab and not AT ALL an obvious passion of the team. In fact, 80% of the dev time was spend counting money, playing billiards and smoking opium.

Thank God your genius mind uncovered this awful conspiracy.

Companies maximizing profits and due to that steadily reducing quality at launch? Unthinkable.

The game may be a passion for the developers themselves, but for the business portion of Paradox it is, first and foremost, a product that can be sold for money. If they see that they can cut off a piece of the product and then sell it later to earn more money - then they're going to do it.

I highly doubt it was cut. I would think they ran out of time. Honestly, I feel they should have delayed this game a year just to add polish and round out features already in the game. So many systems feel like they arent fully implemented correctly or fully. It frustrates me that companies feel that releasing half finished games is somehow acceptable. I am now worried because (in my opinion) they rushed the launch the game will get negative press and we could have another imperator on our hands which would be a real shame and be a huge disappointment because I love this era of history.

The press is in love with the game. It probably checks all the boxes for them (it's pretty, there's women, socialism). But that's how reviews are pretty much anything. The magazines that make reviews benefit from the industry.

I've yet to see any content where anyone seems like they are genuinely having fun. It's just memes and weird stuff. Whenever there's a war they just kinda hush up probably because they know it's a dumb system.

The real honest reviews are pretty scathing.

From my POV it's never going to be as fun as Hearts of Iron. If you can't do encirclements, or back your enemy into a corner, it just isn't going to be fun. The war system is junk. There's no excitement if you can't control the army's directly, same for the Navy.

And it shares most of the same flaws as imperator. A wide time frame where things go unrealistically, backwater countries advance too much. A great degree of sameness for every country (except these economic stuffs).

Nobody gets excited about buildings.

Except they're not uniform for all countries. There's certain unique IGs that are in the game, for example the Russian Gentry or Mahayana Monks in Buddhist countries. But the ones in the Reddit post aren't in the game - most likely so that they can be added in a future DLC.

Apart from this, there is pretty much no flavor in the game - no option to build the Kiel Canal (even though the options to build Panama and Suez are there), pretty much no custom events for any nation - apart from the broken civil war mechanics in the US.
You know real people almost never plan these Machiavellian schemes. Dude it was just cut content. Either cut because it’s a legacy, or because it’s not ready, or because they didn’t like how it turned out. Pretty much all video games have cut content in their code.
