Hello,

I was wondering why a republic loses the Defender of the Faith title if they chose to elect someone else? This makes no sense and is particullarly inconvenient - especially as Milan (Ambrosian Republic). Furthermore, the description of the title says a country loses the title if the ruler dies. Electing someone different does not mean the ruler is dead - he's just "living" among the other citizens of that said country.

Was wondering what others have to say about this. Gameplay wise it's also quite stupid to lose the title after just 3 years as Milan with Ambrosian Republic..

Yes, it's a bit stupid, maybe the title should be related to a country, and not to just a specific person.

Only if they add the ability to resign from Defender of the Faith. Otherwise, in those games where you end up as the one Orthodox or Reformed country and you want to stop taking the tech penalty, you will be unable to get out of the position.

That also applies if you're a Monarchy, so I wouldn't say that having every Republic lose it every election is a reasonable justification for preventing that issue, when it still applies for Monarchies anyway.

I believe you also lose DotF by losing any war, it doesn't have to be a DotF specific war. (That's how it worked in 1.2.2 anyway.) Sucks, but it's one way out.

I do completely agree that there should be a Resign button.

In the meantime, if you're not playing Ironman just use the console to remove it - remove_defender_faith

Is this information up to date? In my last game I haven't lost defender of faith when my leader and leader after him died, so I had to lose a war. The tooltip reflected that.

It's weird to tie the title to a ruler and not to a country - especially inconvenient when you are a republic.

That's strange. Maybe it's the mod I use that causes this. Thanks for letting me know about this. I'll deactivate the mod and see if that solves this problem : -)

You dont lose Defender of faith title if your ruler dies. It was changed im sure of it. In my Ottoman game i kept this title even if my ruler died. You lose title only if you are defeated in war or after 2 years someone with higher prestige can claim title.

I've tested myself as well and confirmed that, as either a Monarchy or a Republic, I did not lose DotF when my leader died/changed.

But I also noticed that there's still one tooltip that's incorrect, the one that shows before you have taken the title:

Thank you! This definitely needs a fix. I did a quick game without the mod I was using and the description is still the same so I believe it's a vanilla issue and not mod-related.

I didn't want to spend all that money on the title if I would have lost it just after a few years. Thanks :) I'll buy it right away.

Paradox should still change the description then. It's wrong and confusing..
