What? I thought we only have three, including AI, Demon and Nids. Fallen empire may decide to test their ultimate weapon on your colony, but that is not an end game disaster.
One of the devs said that each tech type has a crisis associated with it. Thus we can see: Engineering-AI revolt; Physics-Unbidden; Society-?. We don't know what it is, but we do know it exists.

* Will they spawn from one tear in reality, or several?

Probably just one. Hopefully it's big enough to see from the galactic view, like the Eye of Terror. :)

* Will THEY have jump drives, or a completely different tech tree that can be scavenged, or completely incomprehensible tech to mortal minds that can't be scavenged?

Probably something eldritch and un-researchable.

* Will they go after Fallen Empires? Will they be strong enough to?

Yes and yes.

* Will Fallen Empires go after them?

Yes.

* Should there be any possibility of diplomatic peace?

For robots? Maybe. For eldritch horrors like the Unbidden? No way.

* Will they actually conquer pops, or is it more of an auto-purge eat everyone buffet?

Probably the latter, although it would be interesting if they can "corrupt" pops and send them into battle against us. Kinda like Chaos Space Marines in 40k. Retaking a planet they've enslaved would necessitate exterminating everyone on the planet and starting fresh.

* Will their own pops then take up residence, or do they just wipe the galaxy clean?

We could maybe have "daemon worlds" where Unbidden co-exist with corrupted pops. But the vast majority of pop will fight to the death rather than be taken alive.

I hope the Unbidden don't render planets totally uninhabitable. That level of destruction should be reserved for the Tyranid-like locusts.

* Is their strength proportional to anything? Maybe proportional to the fools that summoned them? Or proportional to the total galactic strength?

It should be a fixed value, ideally very high. Their tech should be inferior to Fallen Empires, so we can meet them on the battlefield, but their sheer numbers should be enough to turn the tide of almost any battle.

* Is the fight against them likely to be an event-driven narrative, or more of a CK2 Mongolian-style "Do your best, Russia!"

Probably a mixture of both. I'd like some freedom to fight the way how I want, but perhaps an event chain that has us learning more about the Unbidden and how to fight them -- perhaps closing the rifts they came through -- would be nice.

* Will the faithful be eaten first?

See above. :p

Society-?. We don't know what it is, but we do know it exists.

I wonder what could that be... My guess is either some sort of augmentation crisis (establishement of all-consuming psionic/cybernetic hive-mind? Ubermensch space nazis? Pangalactic luddit doomsday cult?) or cloning crisis.

(Sorry for bad english)

I actually disagree with the people who said yes. I think multiple can happen in one game but no at the same time. That's a good thing :) I want for them to be able to balance it so that a late game disaster takes all of my focus not that I need 2 for a challenge.

I really hope their ship design is totally unique and also the way their ships move through space. If they're fleet is organic in nature, they could maybe have a huge hive mothership surrounded by swarms of smaller locust like ships. There achilles heel being to take out the hive motherships greatly weakening or disabling the swarm. Obviously this would be a massive undertaking as the motherships are heavily armoured and protected.

For robots? Maybe. For eldritch horrors like the Unbidden? No way.

Just going to chime in and agree with this. Most of the other stuff is mutable, but one of the consistent features of Cthulhu and Lovecraft is the utterly alien and incomprehensible nature of the "other," and the impossibility of any sort of meaningful communication. The "other" has unknowable motives, methods, and goals. In other words, you don't barter or cut a deal with Cthulhu.

The only sort of peaceful resolution consistent with the mythos would be some sort of end-game tech that allows you to hasten the arrival of our Tentacled Savior. Maybe something like the zombie cult Church of the Chosen Ones ending in Rebuild where you embrace your own annihilation? That would be pretty meh from a gameplay perspective, as it would remove the need for you to deal with the end game crisis.

This is a bit disconcerting. So, we have this, the AI apocalypse, God knows what other end game catastrophes there are (besides the intergalactic invasion).
I agree - I wouldn't mind if this happens occasionally, but I don't want to deal with a variation of it every single time.

For me, I think what would be more interesting is the idea of civilization churn - old empires dying, and new ones being born - new races evolving and old races fracturing, potentially dying out entirely, tech loss and rediscovery over time.

This way, you do have the chance to become a Fallen Empire over time, but you have to work to keep it all from collapsing, because, you know, that's kind of what civilization does after a while - either politically or resource wise.

Is it a coincidence that the shape of their empire resembles their symbol? Maybe that could indicate that they spawned over that whole area...
I think that is them conquering their way around uncontacted empires. Probably seizing unclaimed/weakly held territory before pushing in on better defended areas.

If they are already in Sol, I think it might be a bit late. Should've stopped them at Alpha Centauri. ;)

It wasn't too late with the Reapers.

In fact if you are forced to fight them in a war of attrition and they spawn inside your empire then you might actually loose your homeworld and yet beat them back.

Its been slightly said in the thread, but i want to be sure.
If the unbiddens goal is to devour our galaxy life, will they then be passiv/friendly towards robots? Perhaps even allying the?
And if thats happening, could you say, that the galaxy is threatened by Energi Being and their immortal robot armies?...

Mmhmm, Henrik said there's an end-game crisis tied to each research type @ 2:53 in this video:

Don't know whether intergalactic invader is tied to society research, though.

Might be a dumb question, but can multiple "endgame-events" happen simultaneously? Like: the Unforbidden had arrived, so you trying to gear up yourself when suddenly your AI Robots decide it´s time for some rebellion....
(Sorry for bad english)
Henrik mentioned this at 3:50 in the above video. "Not every game you play, but quite often there should be one of these endgame crisis happening. Sometimes two, but the norm is one."
