Okay so I had bought Ck2 along time ago and gave up on it because I didn't know what was going on lol. 3 days ago I got back on it intent on learning it's mechanics this time and I think I'm getting the hang of it.

The problem rn is with this particular weak claim. I started of as a count and I've gotten myself to a Duke. So my councillor in charge of intrigue seems to have a weak claim to a county in an entirely different kingdom. His only listed family are his children and his wife. As far as I know you can only gain claims through marriage (and my magistros) so how does he have a weak claim when he has no parents? (In the sense that he's the first generated character in his lineage since I just started playing).

Idk if I'm even giving all the right info or if this even makes sense. I'm still trying to learn the game

How do I see the history? And does that mean if I revoke the title of a vassal they get a claim to it? Is that how it works?

Click on the county it belongs too and then " View history " it should come up with previous owners of the land.

They will get a claim on land they previously owned. Meaning at some point they may press it if they want it back ( if they have another piece of land ) or form an adventurer for it

The first rule of CK2 is to hover over, left click and right click on everything, and I mean EVERYTHING ! The history for each title is found by left clicking on the title on the character screen, then clicking on the History button. Clicking on your own dynasty shield brings up your dynasty tree, clicking on an armies flag will take you its owners province etc.

As to the claim - there are many reasons for one to arise, from being a pretender, to events to having previously held the title. In this case who cares where it comes from, all you need to know is whether or not you can push the claim and bring it into your realm.

PS - If you start a very bad assassination attempt against the target (bring in a Drunkard to the plot) then the target may get wind of it and go into hiding, which will allow you to push the claim. I did this once and while I was fighting my war my target's Regent decided that he should have the title instead and so he usurped it from the King in hiding, making it a LOT easier to win my war now that no one supported the war !

Got it! Thanks!

who cares where it comes from, all you need to know is whether or not you can push the claim and bring it into your realm.

The reason I care is because I wanted to know how to replicate it. I don't actually care for this specific go around.

PS - If you start a very bad assassination attempt against the target (bring in a Drunkard to the plot) then the target may get wind of it and go into hiding, which will allow you to push the claim. That makes a hell of alot of sense. Man, so much scheming in this game and I absolutely love it

Doesn't have to be an assasination atttempt. Any form of regency works. Assasination usually works best to force said regency. If it suceeds a child may inherit, forcing regency. If a woman innherits, anyone can press weak claims on them. If he goes into hiding said refency forms.

Other ways to press a weak claim are when

1. He is on a pilgramage (regency)
2. He is in bed from illness or old age (regency)
3. If there is someone else at war with him for the same title. Basically you can make it a three way war. This is how you typically get the achievement where denmark conquers England in 1066. You get to declare for your claim in England because William the Bastard (Conquerer) is at war for the same title.

Another explanation is that he was previously in the Court of a Count with few family and no Feudal vassals. In such circumstances an unlanded courtier can be elected, and this courtier might have lost the election.

So, lots of reasons, really.
