This really pisses me off!!!

In my current playing as Spain (year 1560).. For almost 70 i have been in same alliance and i have kept kick ass relations with my allies.. My Allies: England,Portugal,Navarra and Pommern...
I have explored almost every piece of TI in the world and shared my maps with them.. I give them money all the time.
I have always honoured the alliance when England declares war on Scottland and its allies (France,Savoj and others...)..
God knows how many 100k of soldiers i have wasted on defending Calais from France, England from the scotts, Navarra from being annexed by France and so on.. And not to speak about all the ships i have lost defending England...
And then once i have to call for help when france declares war on me..
None of my allies honoured the Alliance, after all i have done for for them.. Well it is payback time, for the first time i will declare war, on them...

Nope i that game i haven't declared war on any European country...
And when i declared war on Aztec/Inca I didn't ask for help (knowing they won't be abe to help...)
France declared war on me...

You could be a badboy. Or your allies could have great relations with France.

The problem with the AI is, that it has no memory. When you are 300 years allied, had continuous royal marriages, with +200 relation, they love you as much as a country, which you DoW'ed constantly and has also a +200 relation, because you send 5 state-gifts.

A high BB will make your allies less inclined to join the war.

I can't have that high BB, i have only declared war on Aztecs and Inca (and annexed them).. And i have joined war against Scotland and France, grabbing 3 provinces every time... Draw a line from Gascogne to champagne and i own all france provinces below that line...

If you always join a war, then grab 3 provinces and have seperate peaces with France, personally I wouldn't trust you for a penny.

Maybe those AI's have after all a good view on human nature

You might want to check your badboy rating. Annexing the Aztecs and Incas is about +28

My first GC was as Spain and I also very early annexed the Aztecs and the Incas. When I learned about the BB rating and looked it up, it was over 20. That is high enough for the whole world to hate me and they did.

Did your alliance DoW on France or did France do the DoW. I think if your alliance is the aggressor and you negotiated a WP with you gaining land in Europe you might have acquired some BB points.

I cant recall if you get stuck with BB points or not when you gain land in an European offensive war where you honored your allinace.

If you are playing Spain I wouldn't worry about being in a rush to annex either one of them. It seems that nobody but (AI) Spain DoW on the Aztecs or Incas. So I suggest taking 2-3 provinces at a time and going for the full annexation when they have 1-2 provinces left.The Aztecs are great for this..only 2 wars needed. The Incas...well a bit more , but well worth it.

well none of my allies have declared war on france... But however England declared war on Scotland and honored the alliance...
And when France DoWed me my allies didn't honor the alliance

Well i annexed the Aztecs before i got Hernan cortez and i started trying to annex Incs when i got him...eventually i had to offer peace without conquering anything...Since i couldn't go anywhere with my troops because the incas came with small armies all the time..
The second time i managed to take conquer the 2 nothern provinces and get rid of all TI in the Incas empire...
And the 3rd time I DoWed I annexed them..

Yep, that's the problem. Refrain from annexing nations whole, don't take three provinces in every war, and you will keep your allies.

In the EU2 forum, I posted the suggestion that the AI nations need to have "memory". I want the diplo and military AI to be more sophisticated.

Memory means a few things:

1) nations that have been long time friends will be MORE LOYAL, and so they will not just abandon you at the first sign of trouble

2) nations that have been backstabbed (for example, kicked out of an alliance and then immediately attacked) will REMEMBER the ignominy, and they will also carry a grudge for many years

3) a nation that you just defeated, humiliated and crippled recently in war will be AFRAID and reluctant to fight you again any time soon, because they have the memory of how you just recently burnt all their cities to the ground so easily.

That is the problem with EU. The AI does not have a decent memory. It does not "learn lessons". Therefore, what the hell does loyalty mean? Nothing.

Don't ever expect loyalty from nations that you have helped for 60 years. They do not remember any of your help. They have no memory.

I hope Paradox addresses this AI situation in EU2
