I have a question totally unrelated to gameplay, but that's been bugging a lot of players:

Can the launcher be fixed so that either (a) mods/dlc stick in between games instead of what seems to be an arbitrary preset, or (b) allow players to edit the launcher's settings so that they can set it themselves?

You can fix the mod 'sticking' problem by removing spaces from mod file names. For instance "Keyboard Shortcuts" needs to be renamed to "Keyboard_Shortcuts", both in the .mod file, the mod folder, and the text within the .mod file needs to be corrected to reference the new file name. Its annoying, but it can be fixed in 30s.

Wasn't planning to watch it (it being at a rather ungodly hour here) but finished up watching quite a bit (sadly, was awake at said ungodly hour :(). Personally, I'd wait for the highlights package - they mainly played republics and had various bugs, and got distracted so didn't show much that was new.

Tidbits I learned (in 3/4 hour...) -
the ambition to become a king mission isn't limited to pagans (doge of amalfi had it). So what are the limits on this?
councillor missions now spread technology to other provinces
deliberately didn't say much about Zoroastrians (you will need to extract Doomdark from his secret location for that), except they can tumble their daughters.
oh, yes and no high kings for Ireland.

As an aside, there seemed to be more gain/lose trait events, but for all I know they could all be in the game and I just don't see them often.

I do recall them at one point stating that, yes, Irish dukes are petty kings.
There does need to be some level of protection from a Norse takeover of OPMs, I don't want the north suffering the same fate as the Mediterranean.

No western empires at game start. Seems some requirements will be needed to get an event/decision, whatnot.
Anything else ? Sometimes they scratched single issues, but not in a way that represents a stream, more like a work meeting.

Oh and now we know that seasons might be included......or not. ;)

Did anybody get the part when King was talking about tech penalties ?
I missed it and am unwilling to watch 2 1/2 hours only for that.

Also, what was so different in playing republics in ToG than now ?

I just wished they would not use twitch so I can watch too. Even tried to use live streamer to watch it through vlc this time and still nothing! I really want to watch this stuff. Ive tried several computers across multiple ISP's and routers with multiple browsers and I have to say after two years of trying I give up. Unless some one has a better idea... Please.

Just that if you are 'ahead of the curve' the cost to buy tech is steeper

Nothing, so far is I can tell, except that Amalfi better swear fealty to Byz or else.

The whole thing seemed to be a change of focus from what was advertised. I can't say I was terribly happy to skip through 2 1/2 hours to try and catch tidbits about actual changes (instead of 'my wife is pregnant' & 'cataphracts are awesome!')

will crusades be prohibited until a certain date like jihads?
This got answered - they already can only start at 1090 or something, so technically no change - but yes, no crusades until then.

Oh yes, and mali, abyssinia and italia are now empires. Didn't hear anything about additional creation conditions.

Thanks ! So we won't get an ingame penalty on using the tech, but as it makes more sense, in limiting our potential tech progress. Sounds like an excellent solution.

Seemed as they had changed focus from talking about tech to playing, as maybe mighty Doomdark didn't want them to reveal too much. Last time the stream was better on watching it again, this time though i doubt that it will.

Italian empire was irritating. How is that bigger than a kingdom ?..also its so small.....i wonder what they changed regarding the HRE title problem (refering mostly to the start situation of the 3 or 4 frankish kingdoms).
I fear an italian empire outside an HRE empire will be a pretty common occurence.
An HRE owning the italian one though seems like a good solution for the HRE problems with italy as of now.

Well, there are 4 more devdiaries to come. We will see........or not.

I'm assuming Zoroastrian incestuous marriage will also apply for siblings and parents. That might lead to some very interesting claimant wars.

Anyhow, for those of us who didn't see the stream, does anyone mind summarizing what we've learned about technologies?

Or none at all I'm hoping.

About tech, you gain tech points based on your highest title, you put those points into advancing tech. Tech also still spreads and you can still use your advisers to speed up the whole process in general, if you are too far adhead in a tech, it costs more to increase that particular tech.

Dammit, my high-kingdom for a high-king.

They still mentioned nothing about Irish dukes though.

Apparently it's the question they love so much. Assuming this was irony, it appears it might be annoying them. Also appears to be ruled out completely, from any expansions, ever.

EVER!

All right, thanks. That sounds interesting. So basically you play a bit more of an active role in tech advancement.

I do wonder how they'll rebalance the tech to adjust to the 867 start date.
