But the hilly terrain in Europe is practically indistinguishable at some zoom levels.

Its all good havin a big map, but remember the slow down we get after 1942 in hoi2, so with this new map 10,000 povs its up 7,000 more than hoi2 so this will mean bigger armies, and the more units the ai has the more tasks it will do, i can see the requirements being alot higher than previous series. ive got a core2duo e6600 with 4gb of ram,(no were near the fasest but still good), and my screen is jittery after 1942. so i can see people havin problems on older comps

not really we just may not see the stacks of 24 - 72 we see running in hoi2 vanilla. hopefully forces of 6-9 units in a province will be a formidable force and considered a bit stack.

Indeed, army sizes will probably be similar. However, that's just a "probably." Who's to say that playing with brigade-sized units will be entirely uncommon? I certainly foresee a lot of use for them in the Spanish Civil War, based on the most recent screenshot.

Delegate to the AI in MP game? I have my doubts, surely some would rather die constantly pausing then let AI rule:rofl:.

Do we have any confirmation about sharing same country by several players?

Map looks really promising that a fact.

Looking at the scope of the map, most people will be playing on real time speed and they'll still feel rushed ;)

The possibility exists yes, but I imagine the AI will be building 3-5 brigade divisions as much as possible (i.e. programmed to favour these) and really what use would a player have for a 1-brigade division?
I can think of loads of use for 1-brigade divisions.

Four infantry single brigade divisions will always beat a single division(4brigade) if they are left with enough space to manouver. They can match him in all out combat if assisting together, and they can move in 4directions, surround, controll. Two brigades can reorg while two is on the move and capture terrain.

1-2 brigade divisions will be perfect to leave behind and defeat partisans and guard beaches, naval and airbases. Perfect for all nations that need to cover terrain. They are also likely to put up a good fight versus a full size division if defending mountians/marches or behind rivers.

Take a look at Spain in the latest dev diary, and that is just the regional level. We've seen it before, but never before have we seen a whole country. Those REGIONS are smaller than individual hexes in World in Flames.

It is completely, absolutely, utterly insane. Can't wait to see Asia.

Yes the hexes are smaller than World In Flames especially in Europe when you look at all the Dev Diary screenshots. There is definately going to be entire new concepts of strategy coming from HoI 3 and very exciting. I can already smell Gargy Grigsby peeing his pants on this one.

...the only thing I can think if by using the new command structure, you can delegate AI control to specific formations, say the German 6th Army for example, and give that AI a strategic goal. The AI will then spread out his divisions to cover a font of X provinces and then will advance. You can do this for non crucial areas or areas of little resistance to free up your bandwidth to control other forces.

But if we are expected to manually control all of our seperate divisions mostly by hand, MP might be too much to bear and I'll be sad.

As far as a MP, there is a limit to how much a player can manually control. I dont see MP players allowing broad control of their forces to the AI either. The AI just simply cannot be trusted. There is a reason every single minor in an MP game is MC'd.

As far as players sharing control of nations....horrible idea. The goal of playing games is still have to have fun, whether playing MP or SP. Joining a game so you can recreate the inner political turmoil of many nations during WW2 to the fantastical delight of pdox forum trolls...is NOT FUN. ;)

That sounds like a lot more, then just handing over the control of some of your troops to the AI

No offense, but "interesting plans" does not set my mind at ease. I have faith, but I only play HOI2 for MP. Whether its testing, working on research and build strategies or actually playing in MP sessions, HOI is MP or not at all. A map of this scope, and with possibly insurmoutable micromanagement, I'm nervous.....faithful, but still nervous.

I just dont want HOI MP to devolve from a quality strategy game, to a game where "...I win because I can give more orders to more units more efficiently than you because if have clikz skillz dat killz!!"

Someone that can click 3 times more and faster will always have an advantage over you no matter what game it is. This is true for HoI2 aswell, especially the naval and air parts.

You have two options: Either join a MP group playing very slow while in war and unlimited pauses, or find a turn based game.

I don't really think you'll see any brigade sized units in the game.. as you can't construct divisions with lower than a certain amount of strength

Hmm, I meant 1-brigade divisions. Aren't those possible? I thought the Division Designer wasn't supposed to protect us from whatever stupid things we wanted to do :p

EDIT: BTW, is the limit moddable? Could I have my Japanese airborne brigades (they weren't division-sized units).

Thats a real shame, whats the point of having a minimum number of brigade slots set to 1 if you won't be allowed to use it?

So I'll take it that the effective minimum number of brigades in a division is 2?
