This is a deliberate design limitation: accidental deaths in duels add an absolute world of edge cases (not to mention the extra outcomes that now every instance of duelling needs to account for) and discourage people from engaging in duels without solid prowess.

:) Were we to change this, it'd likely be by simply making berserkers unable to use their trait's special move in non-lethal duels, though that's a pretty valid note by itself tbh.

;) You're welcome to risk more fatal duels if you like, you know.

Maybe an easy change would be to just re-write the text shown in the screenshot to be something like intimidating the opponent with a threat of going berserk, and then pulling back before entering the trance. Mechanically it'd be exactly the same, and so wouldn't require rewriting event code, but the flavor would be a little more consistent with other depictions of berserkergang in the game.
Also a good idea! When I initially wrote this flavour copy, we didn't yet have the dedicated berserker events, so it was internally consistent at the time, but uhhh, the tone of presentation has certainly changed since we got the berserker events added :p. Could certainly use some updating in light!
