There should be a much lowered moral authority for the shiites at start of the game and they should not be happy with the seljuks and other sunnis, just like the orthodoxs should not be with the catholics

A combination of fixes that should work:

1. Give the Fatimids very high decadence at the start. Not something snotty like 25%, but up to 75%. They were on the decline, and this is exactly what the decadence system is meant to represent. Same with the Taifas in Andalusia.

2. Jihads can only be called to take the major cities in Muslim mythology/culture. Ie the three holy cities, Baghdad, Cordoba and Constantinople.

3. Muslim invasion cb should require 1000-2000 piety rather than 500.

4. Make accumulating decadence easier for Muslims.

Thats annoying....

I think I'd be rage quitting.

What I find even more annoying is that all of Spain and half of France have fell to Muslim rule in my last three games by 1150. Its really making the game rather unenjoyable.

Wow. In my current game the only place where there is some muslims left is the Golden Horde, a giant blob. If they haven't converted, there would be like 3 muslim provinces total (except Mali region).

And I did nothing to weaken them (tough I picked them up once they were all crushable). It seems all big empires fell to decadence.

Christians conquered all of Iberia, HRE north africa and the Ilkahnate the Middle East (and never converted).
But I started latter, in the second tag. When I start a "grand campaign", it usually ends up weird.

I tried out William the Conquerer, and after winning got Phillipe II of France excommunicated. Eventually an independence war broke out, Causing the dukes of Aquitaine and Toulouse to win their freedom. Sadly Aquitaine never did become a kingdom. Anyways, because of France getting weakened so badly, and the Iberians getting thoroughly trounced, this happened:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=105167054

The only crusade the Pope called for so far was on Sicily, which I won and gave to some nephew of a nephew or something, and while France was fighting its independence war, the HRE had a massive one of its own, that lasted a good 10 - 15 years at least. And at the time that picture was taken, the Almoravids were invading Brittany. When they won that was the last straw for me, so I holy warred them right back, with my Byzantine allies (who for once not only beat the Seljuks, but never got invaded - at least not successfully - by the Fatimids). Not that I needed them. My doomstack was only around 12-14k troops, but it was more than enough to trash the Almoravid forces they managed to throw at me. And now that I've wiped out their European doomstack, I suppose I might as well break truce and continue holy warring for each duchy. Except Toulouse, which it looks like Genoa is on the verge of taking. But it is so freaking annoying that they can invade an entire kingdom, while I'm stuck with only being able to attack duchies.

A thing that is striking is how the Byzantines resisted to the much stronger Abbasid Caliphate for almost 500 years - to eventually counterattack - while Mantzikert aside they seem to lose in game so badly against the historically decadent and declining Shia Caliphs of Egypt.

The irony is that prior to the 1st Crusade, Alexios I was pretty much a good ally of the vizier of the Shia Caliphate -- they shared a common enemy in the Seljuks after all.

Fatamids took Constantinople along with Greece and a good chunk of Anatolia (no help either way from me, I was pounding around as a Duke in England) in about 70 years in my latest game. Pretty silly. It could make for an interesting game though, the Byzantines have survived by taking Sicily just before it all went down.
