For some reason, all I can hear in my mind is the Caliph standing on a tree stump in the borders of the HRE and screaming "I AM THE TERROR THAT FLAPS IN THE NIGHT" at the peasants

I wonder if we'll get 1.07c tomorrow.

Seriously doubt it, Doomdark stated that the team is down with colds and the flu and were supposed to release a new patch for Hearts of Iron 3: Their Finest Hour this week but it had to be postponed because of the sickness. I doubt Legacy of Rome is higher priority than the Hearts of Iron 3 patch. Don't expect it until late next week if we're lucky.

That's just... Wow. No really. No.

Only one solution: Remove the Invasion CB for Muslims. They already have a huge technological bonus at start. It just isn't fair. At all.

Nah. Start the Fatamids off with a large independence faction, and give their leader terrible traits. Let them usually win their initial war and then blow up.

I disagree: muslims were designed to have an easier time expanding. And in the end, they needed something to correspond to the Catholic Invasion CB.

What I see to be the problem is the asymmetry: Catholic or Orthodox AI never use invasions, and they can't launch them against infidels. This should be the starting point of every "rework" of the issue.

one possible fix would be removing the decadenc einvasions(or at least untill it reaches 100%), and make decadence i.e. give a opinion modifier. you a great undecadent ruler? sure, take my extra levies and we will stick with you untilt he end. your son takes voer and he's a ass? see your border vassels break away. get a retard as a ruler and see your realm implode to a duchy. combine this with making decadence independent of other independent rulers of your dyasty and you get i.e. fatamids who lose dmascus, jeruzalem and medina because theyre decadent, seljuks first being great conquerers that later implode ect.

in my most recent game Byz are gone and Fatamid (now some other obscure name, due to decadence dynasty change) own all of Russia, 90% of middle east and balkans and a chunk of Iberia. Its 1170.

Should be good to see what happens when the horde arrive. But to be honest I dont like how much Fatamids have expanded, way too OP

Muslim invasions need some sort of restriction. Bumping the piety requirement up to 2000 would be a start.

Alternatively, change decadence wars from invasions to independence in order to balance the easy invasions. Go from "switch out the ruling dynasty" to "realm fractures". Give the successor states CBs & claims on one another, I don't care, but the current decadence mechanic only strengthens large Muslim realms.

I find it easier to cripple them with internal problems (I increase Empire-Caliphate holding decadence growth), than to take out invasion CB.
This

Also because we want the Seljuks - who seem to be more prone to internal trouble - to more easily use that CB against Anatolia or Fatimids' controlled Jerusalem (which would weaken both)

A thing that is striking is how the Byzantines resisted to the much stronger Abbasid Caliphate for almost 500 years - to eventually counterattack - while Mantzikert aside they seem to lose in game so badly against the historically decadent and declining Shia Caliphs of Egypt.

ERE can live if you get a Fatmid vs Selejuk war.

This. 100% this. Fatimids and Seljuks should be fighting far more than they do - again, it depends on who you talk to, but I don't think I've ever seen them directly fight. As it is they leave each-other well alone, and they are such massive nations that the only room for expansion for them if they don't fight each-other is Anatolia/Greece/Southern Italy. All the time the Fatamids spend invading Galicia, they should spend attacking the Turks.

I'd also have a rule that Muslim invasions/Jihads should be on the basis of having a border. They should be defensive measures. What you shouldn't get is the Fatimids leap-frogging Seljuk Armenia to launch an invasion of Anatolia. Or a massive Jihad for Sicily. AI should use Jihad as a counter-measure for Crusades for Jerusalem. Invasions should be used regionally, so Iberian Muslims attacking Iberian Kingdoms. There clearly seems to be some logic to it [i.e. Fatimid always attacking Sicily, which contains Muslims] I just think its scope needs to be shrunk.

One thing I don't get is the almost uniform lack of fight-back from the BYZ. They lose a kingdom, do nothing, lose another, do nothing... I think the issue is that Anatolia never descends into eatable states [autonomous beys, for example], like it did in real life. The BYZ have to attempt to take on either the whole Seljuk/Fatimid domain if it wants to retake land, and then it's never Anatolia whole - they'll have to fight a half-dozen holy-wars to reclaim it.

It happened in my current game, but this came about through some very special cases. First the ERE managed to take out (modern) Bulgaria before the Seljuks took over Anatolia, allowing them a power base. At the same time the Seljuks took over Georgia which later became relevant. The Seljuks almost immediately imploded, big time (they did it again about 1150, no more Seljuk territory). Then the Fatimids invaded Greece (1080s) in a holy war, followed by an almost immediate Crusade for Greece (two years later) which was successful and gave the territory to England.

Now here is where the fight back began. The heir to the ERE was ruling Adrianopolis for the Fatimids and ascended in the middle of the Crusade giving the ERE a port on the Ionian sea. Almost immediately after the English gained control of Greece, Lancaster declared independance (with 2/3 of England the country as her vassals), she brought in the newly installed Anglo-Greek dukes (who are culturally Norweigan). Lancaster won (but swore fealty again 15 years later) leaving a lot of 2 province Duchies in W. Anatolia. Now here is where Georgia comes in, the main Duke there rebels against his Muslim overlords a much reduced Seljuk empire, he calls in the Emperor when he is losing, the Emperor saves his bacon and he swears fealty to the ERE. All this happens by c. 1090.

We now have an ERE based around the Balkans, Georgia and northern Mesopotamia (the Seljuks ignored that in the first invasion). He is bordered by a lot of 2 province English (Norweigan) dukes, a lot of 1-4 province Seljuk successor Emirs and Sheikhs, all inhabiting Greek Orthodox provinces which are hostile to his overlords. The Emperor now just starts warring on each ruler one at a time, until now he has most of Greece (this meant also beating up Africa Zirids who invaded English Peleponese), a Mesopotamia farther south than where the ERE started, and a Georgia spreading East to the Caspian. His best friend the King of England got most of the Anatolian dukes back, and ate some of the Seljuk state there as well.

At about 1140 I upgraded to 1.07b and the ERE and Hungary started raping Croatia, so that now the only province left is Bosnia.

As I said very special cases, leaving my game a massive outlier.

fatamids have some stupid Cb that not only gives whole kingdoms, it gives every vassall in that kingdom +75 oppinion to the ruler.
So they can just walz in, take over and immediately use the full force of that kingdom to take over more stuff.

No need to deal with silly things like religious conversion or catholic vassalls rebelling, nooooo.

its like the Borg, but on horses.

but its easy to change, i have a minimod that gives them negative starting money and gives the leader bad traits instead of diligent, brave etc etc..
makes them fall in place quickly.
