I can see interesting features, historical research that gives as a result a great variety off tree missions, historical flavor and plausible what if...? situations. Just the kind off things i missed in the GC dlc

In one side, very happy to see this great work from hoi4 devs, but in other side is sad that in EU4 the game covers the time line when spain was an important country and they did very poor work in the last dlc (that was supposed to be the Iberian dlc) , and in the Hoi4 that covers the times when Spain is not important country they did a great historical research with lot off "historical flavor" and lot off interesting content, very good work from HOI4 devs

Hope to see something similar in EU4 in the next updates, during GC development people gave lot of info, historical research and ideas for a great iberian dlc, i think eu4 devs can do also a great work like this in eu4 and repair the situation after GC dlc

Sorry for my english

Sorry to tell you but GC is a lost cause Paradox won´t bother fixing it.

That's true (well, I hope it isn't, but I guess it's actually true), but we can always complain.

It's also true that GC was a flavor pack and next HoI4 expansion is a full priced one, but it was a huge let down to have a flavor pack supposedly focused on Iberia, and realize that it seemed as if the most important feature were the pirate republics and not, you know, Iberia itself.

I liked GC, it added a lot of flavor to Granada and Aragon and Castille is much stronger now. Before, Castille was a lower tier minor, now I regularly see them at number 1-2-3 GP in my games. Also, a reason to play Navarra? Morocco being worth playing? I've never even played a Pirate Republic.

That being said the holy orders and deportation mechanics were a bit... weird. I rarely use them except when I remember they exist and I have a few extra monarch points.

But still, I wasn't playing in Iberia before and I do now, so I think as a flavor pack (mostly mission trees I'll admit) it did a lot. Also made it possible for Portugal to actually lose to Morocco once in a while, which is nice.

Excellent bait mister, but it crumbles once you called Castille a low tier minor wich made it too obvious.

To be honest, I was typing out a reply while walking outside and on my phone. I meant to type low tier major. Like usually between 4-7 unless they did very well in the colonial game or got BI, which mathematically they don't most of the time.

I'm enjoying an Al-Andalus game right now.I stand by my words besides the obvious mistake.

The missions trees in GC actually do have a bunch of what if scenarios, like a personal union between Spain and Britain. Not sure if there is anything mechanically to fix in GC. People complain about minority explosion being in an Iberian expansion, but it's not like you would want to remove the option now that we have it.

I personally would remove the expelled minority feature, because it usually makes the new world mostly northern African in my games. If population was a percentage and not all or nothing with cultures, religion, ect, it could of worked better. In my opinion. But, as a whole.. whatever.. dont regret buying it. Theres things I could pick from other expansions that I hate more.. like charter trade company feature making it so you have random bits of random countries all over trade regions. Personally.

I would.

I would remove minority expulsion.

I would remove pirate republics.

I would remove the meme-worthy missions.

But then there wouldn’t be anything left in the pack to speak of, so I would have removed it altogether and rolled the flagships and naval barrage in the base game where they belong. (or the expansion that added land barrage? this can be up to debate)

After seeing the latest development journals of hoi4, I came up with a new mission tree for Spain.

As in Hoi4, depending on the faction, different paths will open in the mission tree, the factions will be the dynasties

Habsburg of Spain: This branch would have the classic colonization missions, would unify the Iberian Peninsula, but it would focus more on emulating the inheritance of Carlos I (Austrian and Burgundy heritage) and would have many missions centered on the HRE (wars of religion, the Countries Low, being emperor of the SIR, actively participating in the 30-year war, etc.) would also add internal policy missions such as the arms union of the count-duke's olivares, etc. There are many historical events to choose from. With the new incident system within the SIR, it seems that it will be easier to simulate these events -https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...evelopment-diary-1st-of-october-2019.1252385/

Bourbon Spain: if certain requirements are met by playing with Habsburg Spain, we can reach the war of succession, if we choose the Bourbon side and win the war, the historic peace would be signed where Spain would lose Italian possessions, Gibraltar and Menorca, missions will be recover those lost territories, annex Portugal, decree of new plant and as a last mission would put the option of claiming the throne of France

Spain Trastámara and Spain Avís: these 2 are much more complex since it is pure and hard what if...?, but I think it is a plausible alternative story

Spain Trastámara: The heir would be Juan de Aragón, inherit the inheritance of his parents (the Catholic kings) and his missions should focus on unifying the Iberian peninsula, having good relations with Austria (alliance an royal marriage following the policy of Catholic kings),the typical colonization missions and be a Mediterranean power

Avís de España: With Juan de Aragón dead, the heir would be Miguel de la Paz,he was the plan b of the Catholic kings.
Miguel de la paz would be heir to Castille, Portugal and Aragon so IMHO would be interesting add internal policy missions for the administration and the integration off the 3 kingdoms, also a mission for Navarra if he gets the crown before 1515 if gets later he can inherit from his grandfathers.I think missions can be similar to Trastamara tree because Portugal and Castille had a deal and the education of Miguel will be castillian education in castillian courts. So missions can be the classical ones for colonizing, expand in Italy and some more than devs can add

Well, that's the idea, is possible add many more different missions and depending on wich path the player took, he can play 4 perfectly plausible alternative stories, or follow the historical path

pd:sorry, my english is not very good

Railroading is such a joke term. The game has symbolic meaning to actual history, mission trees are supposed to reflect that. The greater the ambitions of activity of the Nation was in history, the more robust and dynamic the tree should be. Spain has a robust and dynamic mission tree that compares what it did historically. What else could you want?

If you are feeling hampered by the mission tree, being "railroading", then I don't know what to tell you. Play a country that doesn't have claims mission tree. It's that simple. Use a mod that cuts the mission tree out completely.

People that use this term when playing this game, are "railroading" themselves ironically. Because this game is anything but a railroad. Its so completely open.

No CB Byzantium is a common Spain/Aragon start to hamper the Ottomans. Where is the mission tree for that? The best players are going to use everything to their advantage, and I can't understand how good players can be turned off by the mission tree at all. Its just so good.

I do not, I actually helped Ottomans attacking Venice when they had problems with their trade league members, hoping that they will be stronger opponent in future.

If given country lives up to historical "expectactions" I could agree that it warrants their "right" to mission, but in many cases missions do not consider if country is expanding, or expanding west/ or east, have alliance, RM, whatever. Especially PU missions are historical trash (and Span getting PU over GB is trash squared). And when I learned about Habsburg missions in China and Australia I wept.

And why Portugal is not eligible for perma claims in Americas and Spain is? What if they expand agressively there (even AI Portugal beelines to Carribean) instead of going around Africa?

The Dominicans abolishing slavery where they're established is especially strange gameplay wise, because they can only be placed in full states. Who is going to turn parts of Africa into a full state instead of a trade company to ever see that effect utilized?

Missions trees are not perfect ,but is the best tool we have at the moment for simulate historical events and create another plausible events.

If given country lives up to historical "expectactions" I could agree that it warrants their "right" to mission, but in many cases missions do not consider if country is expanding, or expanding west/ or east, have alliance, RM, whatever. Dynamic mission trees can help with that, but i think is impossible.I no like also free missions, i think can be good idea make the player complete certains requeriments first for be vavailable to unlock some missions
