This game is too easy due to power costs being too low

The beauty of a sandbox game is that, without a definite "win" state, you can set your own parameters and goals such that they are commensurate with your personal ambition. The level of difficulty is entirely in your own hands.

You can't please everyone, but since we still live in a free world, those that aren't pleased, can speak their voices and their thoughts. Why are you so upset with that?

About the capability of modding. It's true, we can rely on mods, but the game base is so retardly easy and lacks so many features, that people that desire to play a game and not some windows paint need to download tons of mods that we don't know if they are even compatible with each other. You don't know which side effects you can have when applying 15 mods made by different people.

What's the problem in wanting difficulty levels made by the devs?

I am not upset. I am in the camp that also thinks the game is rather easy too actually. I just don't see it as that big of a deal. I am used to modding, I play tons of Skyrim, and always mod it to be more difficult. Heck .. I can't even play the base game anymore lol.

As for compatibility, that gets easier as time goes on actually and mod developers tend to work together. I can install 100s of mods in Skyrim and run into absolutely 0 compatibility issues. Right now, since Skylines is new, there are going to be hickups.

As for the game base difficulty, I can almost certainly imagine the devs are going to increase the difficulty at least somewhat. However, I doubt they are going to do anything drastic. At least, anything difficult enough that you are going to be satisfied with.

There is no issue with voicing your concerns, but there also isn't any issues with me voicing my own .. right? I am only trying to be realistic here. CO and paradox has mentioned they already know the game they want to make, and while they will listen to what we have to say, they will only change things that fit with in their vision. This means I can't imagine the difficulty being far off what they already have.

They probably will change the power costs though. I can't imagine them ignoring that entirely. Not sure how big of a change they will make though. They may even think similar to what I am. If you want it more difficult .. just mod it. That is what the mods are there for.

What people are discussing is the base game is too easy and has to be modded or played differently to be challenging because it gets boring. A lot of us think it should be part of the base game. We want a "game" and a not city painter app it becomes after you start getting big.

There's hard mode already, and if that's not hard enough, I'm sure at some point we might get an ultra hard mode.

Making the vanilla game too hard will turn off a lot of people. There do exist a population of gamer who enjoy things like money cheat, although I never understand why people cheat in game. To each his own

And many people think it's fine the way it is. Which is my point. Since mods are available to make it harder, you really don't need to worry about whether it's part of the base game or not. It simply doesn't matter in the least bit. People seem to act like that if you have to use mods, it's such a big deal, when it really isn't.

Exactly how will your experience differ? You won't need mods? Ok? That's it? Except, even that will never be the case because you can't please everyone. So there are going to be some people who think the game is still too easy regardless, and will still have to use mods.

So please explain to me the importance of it being part of the base game compared to having to use mods. I would think mods are better as it gives you a lot more variation for the type of style you like to play.

I don't use mods in most games, I rarely bother with them, I see the easiness issue as bug in the game. The mods are a stop gap and not a perfect solution.

If I come back to this game in 6 months/1 year/2 years later after it's all patched and updated, I dont' want to go spend the hours and hours to research and experiment with mods I'll need to make it the experience I thought this game was intended to be out of the box. We see the issue with the easiness as a bug, but yah maybe were wrong and it is how it is intended. It's just our opinion and were expressing it.

I'll gladly fork down the cash for dlc and content, but I dont' want to rely on mods in the future if the game still has no late game challenge to it. Good city builders don't come often, it's worth fighting to change what we have to make it better.

BTW I don't agree that power and cost is the problem as OP suggested, and I don't want it to become hard so as to be unplayable by newcomers. It's just everything levels up to damn easy and there's no late game challenge become the money never become an issue.

Yes, the game is indeed too easy and electricity structures are entirely off balance. Due to this, I started a new city with a bunch of selected mods to increase difficulty (and some other features), and made a new set of electricity structures to balance a little bit power costs.

The mods I'm using:
- Hard Mode;
- Unlock All;
- 25 Spaces by Säaik Klyte;
- Chirpy Exterminator by simssi;
- Cursor Jail by Vider7CC;
- First Person Camera by nlight;
- Tree brush by Destroyer;
- Cope's No Despawn by cope;
- Zonable Pedestrian Paths by jfarias;
- Configurable Citizen Aging Speed by Nohealforu (set to 1/2 of default lifetime);
- Fill The Houses;
- Level Up Balance Mod by Nohealforu;
- PopBalanceMod;
- RealHardMode by U wat Mert?;
- Slow Trash Production by Nohealforu (set to 1/2 of trash production);
- Fire Spread by apocdev;

With this mods enabled, my custom power structures have the following stats:

Wind turbine --------------Build cost of 9375; maintenance of 192/week; output of 8 MW; cost of energy: 24/(MW.week);
Advanced wind turbine ---Build cost of 18750; maintenance of 480/week; output of 20 MW; cost of energy: 24/(MW.week);
Coal power plant ---------Build cost of 40000; maintenance of 1440/week; output of 80 MW; cost of energy: 18/(MW.week);
Oil power plant -----------Build cost of 110000; maintenance of 4000/week; output of 200 MW; cost of energy: 20/(MW.week);
Solar power plant --------Build cost of 113000; maintenance of 5000/week; output of 160 MW; cost of energy: 31.25/(MW.week);
Nuclear power plant -----Build cost of 500000; maintenance of 10500/week; output of 800 MW; cost of energy: 13.125/(MW.week);

I can tell you guys that with this setup, the game became really challenging. Really enjoying it now.

Great advice thank you. Going to try that.

This game forgets that sun does not always shine, and wind does not always blow, and we don't have backup batteries that can hold that much energy.
