Painfully GOOD that is. Surprise! It's a Planetfall appreciation thread. Let's share how much fun we're having and let the devs know they knocked it out of the park. :)

I accidentally played it for almost 14 hours straight the first day. I just needed one more turn... Unlike AoW3 I'm actually not sure who I want to main anymore. There's so many options and a lot more room for versatility. It's honestly a bit overwhelming, but in a good way.

Anyways just wanted to pop in and say I'm having a blast, how about you guys?

Yeah, this game is impressively good; really, everything I was hoping it would be. I can't remember the last time I felt this positive about a game at launch.

I'm playing 20-40 turns into numerous scenarios, trying to get a handle on the various factions & the secret techs, and how to do expansion & research well.

I know not everyone likes the PDS dlc/expansion model, but I hope this game does well enough to justify Triumph adopting that model and releasing new content for years to come.

The Creator game engine is just totally awesome. The game is running smoothly on my 5 year old MSI notebook, without making it sweat.
For the game itself, I seem to have a ton of questions, the answers of which seem to be elusive. The numbers in red circles on my unit production rosters for some of them? Not the slightest clue. Number of available mods?
How are the detailed rules for XP gaining? What happens with "unsused" XP when a unit hits the XP ceiling? Is all XP divided on all surviving units or is XP wasted on the dying units? And so on.
Of course, while amassing the questions, playing the beast is a lot of fun. Went straight into a difficult setting with AI maxed and difficult map settings. Battles are way more varied than in AoW 3. The AI seems to be quite apt - but on the other hand, as a player the options for both using unit abilities AND "play with the battlefield" seem to have increased exponentially, and I'm fairly sure you can pull a lot of stunts, especially with combined arms.

The strategic part seems to be something like Endless Legend Light - in a GOOD way, I hasten to add. Making the game a lot deeper, without getting too dominant.

All in all, at this stage it feels massive - and that's how it SHOULD feel, provided you want a new game and not another AoW 3, so, yes, I'm having a blast.
GOG doesn't (buggily) register the time played, but I must have played something like 20 hours now.

@Jolly Joker I have a few answers for you, hope they help:
The number in the red circle is how many -new- mods are available for that unit.
XP is gained universally, the entire army gains the same amount. excess XP should carry over from level up. XP is based on the tiers and quantity of enemy units defeated.

If you cannot decide on what to play, a personal favourite of mine is Voidtech + Assembly. You can really boost your research rate to incredible levels, and get your snipers and wreckers into range rapidly by using phase manipulators cleverly!

Thanks for the answers - but for XP gaining no one seems to know exactly what happens. Here are some answers I found via experimenting:
a) if a unit reaches its max level cap (e.g. a T1 reaches 40) the rest of its XP forfeits (it's not transfered to eligible units).
b) it SEEMS right now, that the formula for getting XP is sum(tiers)x4 (if you have 1 T3, 1T2 and 2 T1 the sum is 7; the XP is 28). This will be divided by the number of your surviving units, the result rounded to the next integer (up or down).

Played it today for some time and i can also say that it is really good. Hopefully they can improve and expand the diplomacy/economy aspect of the game and of course stuff like more factions/skins/quest/story etc. and this game will be a masterpiece.

Edit: Also i have to say that it is one of the best launches from the technical views Paradox had since a long time. The Creator Engine seems to be perform very well. Good job done from the Engine Programmers and Engineers.

Unfortunately work has interfered in my play time (bosses being selfish and expecting me to turn up and do work if I want to be paid! :eek:) However, I have managed to get some playtime in. Luckily looking forward to a weekend of freedom to properly sink some decent time into the game! What little I have played has been great so far and I can see myself putting a lot of hours into this game! Glad I bit the bullet and paid for the premium edition as I knew I'd end up buying the DLC anyway...

Planetfall is a mixed bag for me, a mixed bag of things that are better than AoW3 and some that are not as good. This evens out and makes Planetfall as excellent as AoW3 was.

I will play around some more before and if i give detailed feedback but in any case Planetfall is an excellent game that i will enjoy playing quite a while just like it's predecessors.

I am really loving the game so far. I ran into a small bug, reported it, and someone sent me a work around in like 15 minutes and said they were working to fix it in a future patch.
