Wonder how will they implement it, it's not like India was united unit the British showed up.
It was pretty close to being united under the Mughals. Not totally, but close. Honestly they are probably the part I’m most excited about seeing

Names a game Europa Universalis, releases dlc of everything but Europe.

It's like making a game of the Roman Empire and focus only on the barbarian tribes.
On the other hand, a Roman Empire game without work on the barbarian tribes would be make it bland, wouldn't it ?

It's not like there haven't been a looooot of interest of several European nations in India... and if it helps get a better colonisation of Asia, it's worth it.

You can ignore everything: Tax, trade, diplomacy, ...
The HRE is listed as an important mechanic in the PDXWiki. Don't forget that if you attack an HRE nations it has consequences, too.

Anyhow, I don't care. I won't respond anymore.
View attachment 359851

Important != core. I’d call Trade an important mechanic, but I pretty much ignored it for my first 100-200 hours because I didn’t understand it and my experience wasn’t ruined without it. Tax isn’t a system, by the way, it’s something you literally have to interact with by playing the game. Every time the month ticks over, you interact with the tax mechanic because you own provinces, it’s different from the HRE. Diplomacy can’t be ignored because if you do, it makes the game boring. You don’t interact with other countries, meaning you can’t declare war, meaning you can’t fulfill one of the four Xs in a 4X game. You can ignore the HRE and still explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate just like you can ignore the Mandate of Heaven mechanics. There’s also consequences for attacking Chinese tributaries, but I doubt you’d say that makes them a key part of the game.

The HRE isn’t the heart of EU4. It just isn’t. It might be an important part of the game (it really isn’t, though, aside from the League War and its immediate neighborhood, if that), but that doesn’t make it the core of EU4. It’s regional flavor, no more no less.

India makes a lot of sense for a big update. The Ottomans restricted trade between India and Europe, which is why people started trying to sail around the world in the first place.

Then they should focus on better colonisation mechanics everywhere. Besides, do you think India was more important than France, Spain or the HRE in that time period?

Paradox should definitely do something about colonists and explorers too because Europeans were already at the Indian coasts in the 15th century and even Japan in the 16th century! But I don't see this happening in this game anytime yet by the AI.

Do people forget that an updated India might also mean a more flavoured European trade company experience there? So, not only the native Indian countries profit from this.

Did China or Japan rework flavour European trade in any way?

Those countries weren't colonised to the same extent as India was.

More provinces, more tags, more dynamics = more opportunities.

And, screw it, they just deserve an update after Cradle of Civilization dealt with the Middle East and its surroundings. The last update India had, was with the patch accompanying Art of War.

Any expansion focused on India requires two things to be considered successful in my opinion. A rework of trade companies and making the AI European majors more interested in actually taking land in India. Something is terribly wrong when the optimal strategy is pretty much always to move your capital out of Asia, while the cause of the strategy is only utilized by the players. The way government reform progress gain is calculated (as announced) also makes it even more obvious something has to be done about trade companies.

So much jokes about new content dont being about Europe when the game is called "Europa Universalis".

Why these people looks just the half of the name? Yep Europa, but UNIVERSALIS, the time when Europe go ahead, explored and conquered huge parts of the World, and now you cant represent that european achievements because RTW have just a bunch of provinces with few tags that can be steam rolled without consider all the diplomatic and logistic problems that where presented in real life?

Many of those people that complain about RTW content dont want "EUROPA UNIVERSALIS", they want "HRE EUROPIALIS"

Do you know the game have a huge desing failure when you looks at how for many HRE players is easier to take over Europe first and later roll over the world, when in real life after Germany and Italy unified they tried to have their own colonial empire.

That is how many european powers should works, try to have a colonial empire in a game about european colonial empires. And now both players and AI using european nations prefer to just make huge european empire. If colonial regions are more profitable, interesting and challenging more people gonna try to make a colonial empire.

It's definitely not that colonies were more valuable than European land, it's that they were far easier to conquer and provided resources for the 'real fight' in Europe.

It's called Europa Universalis because the first part was 100% based on the board-game.

IV isn't even close to it anymore.

Which is a good thing.

I hope it focus on Spain, they were the strongest empire in the time period EU IV covers and they still have no DLC.

They were neither the strongest Empire during the time of EU4 [Both Revolutionary France and the British Empire absolutely smashes anything Spain managed] or even the foremost power for the vast; vast majority of the timeframe [Ottomans].

Not to mention the late 1500's and the entire of the 1600's was basically a chain of bankruptcies; economic collapse and territory loss.

Spain was a major power for most of the timeframe; but never really #1. Besides; France should probobly get priority over Spain.

India makes a lot of sense for a big update. The Ottomans restricted trade between India and Europe, which is why people started trying to sail around the world in the first place.

Mamluks did it and I think the ones before them holding the area did it too. With Japan-like restrictions in trade(only a few ports allowed foreigners, etc), the Merchant Republics of Genoa, Venice "bipolized" the spice, diamonds, silk and basically everything coming from East of Iraq. Ragusa played a part too, but it became more important later as a neutral party(15~18th century). When Ottomans conquered Levant and Egypt(1518), Goa already had a Portuguese flag(1510).The Fall of Constantinople was a much more important single event on that. Trade restruction is more a long-term thing.

There was two reasons to Portuguese exploration. Yes, Portuguese, not European.
1 - They believed India was filthy rich. True.
2 - They believed India was Christian and would help than in a two front attack against the "evil muslims" if they knew how the poor brothers in faith were suffering. False.

Columbus was such a failure that only the later discovery of gold mines in Mexico made Spain focus on America rather than continue the Reconquista.
