Thanks HAL for showing this marvellous painting. :)

It hangs in the Nationalmuseum here in Stockholm. That is the most important museum of non-modern art in Sweden, like El Prado in Madrid, the Louvre in Paris or the National Gallery in London. Although with much fewer masterpieces of course.

It is painted by Swedish romantic artist Mårten Winge (1825-1896) and it has a special place in my heart.

I remember when I as a little boy was taken to this museum by my father who was very interested in art (having attended the Royal Academy of art as student). We went through the halls, watching painting after painting and some I liked and some I liked less but so far no big sensations. But then suddenly I found myself standing in front of this huge painting (it is many meters high, perhaps 3 meters). I, a boy perhaps 12 years old and with a keen interest in history and saga, fell into trance. The colors glowed and it looked as Tor was on his way directly to where I stood, with the hammer in his hand ready to strike. It was pure magic.

------

The best site I could find of this painter is

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mårten_Eskil_Winge

Where you can find for example his painting of Kraka, daughter of Sigurd Fafnesbane, a.k.a Siegfried in Wagner's Ring.

Sounds like modern art is the thing in Sweden :p. I went to a modern art meseum in Minneapolis a while ago, and under every piece it read "how does this make you feel", or something like that. I'm glad you have real taste at least Daniel ;).

Apart from that I believe HAL is right that we have a problem in this game. Three of the four regulars are too peaceful - myself, dago and KJ, we have steadily improved all the time and only by escaping to America HAL could keep up ;) . Meanwhile we have lost our ENG and our RUS.

You are not to peacefull, you just helping only one side and no matter what is hapening OE and Austria are victorious.

...

Your welcome. I am glad you are happy and like to watch romantic paintings. Me myself do not like period of symbolism, I rather like to admire reneissance and postimpresionism pictures. Also some areas of modern art are interesting to me, but this is long term discussion :)

I think it is time to vote. Do we really want to continue this game?

As for me, I would vote for end, but I didn't play for long in this game, so I withhold. (I hope this is the right word:))

No, in all seriousness, I'm sorry I wasn't around as much near the end-- I've just been swamped in research and grad school apps, so distracted to say the least. But thank you all for participating, and HAL and KJ for providing so much help and ultimately running the game :)

All,

Finally over, eh?

This has been the most protracted game in EU II history. Congratulations. :D

Frankly, I thought it was dead after Drake quit. And that day we went three hours without a game and then you guys left without me... :D I'm shocked to see you made it to the 21st century.

It's an EU II record.
