Spain has high naval losses. But somehow, it manages to recoup them always. We destroyed all his ships twice, but now it's built back up to 1500 again, and almost has enough to match the OE and Austria together!!!

I don't understand why England and France stick to Spain so closely. We don't have any issues with England or France. I didn't even take land from France last war, though I could've easily.

The only goal of the war against Spain was to lower Spain's income. He makes 1200+ per month, which is double the average of all his neighbors. Basicly I was trying to do a service for the BOP, but for some reason England and France prefere to see Spain grow exceedingly powerful.

BTW, Kanth, is there a chance you can play France perm?:p

First at all you lower my income by 120 (I had 1320), second OE has 900 income, so not much less than Spain. And finally I am not growing at all, I already gave up 4 provinces to you and your puppy OE :p :D

AAR GERMANY 1982-2002

A new player, Raspotine, had to take over Russia in a war that she already had lost. He held out for some 5 stab hits but eventually, shortly after a lot of defections, he wisely accepted our generous peace claims for Svealand and Sjaelland.

After that I had intended to leave the game quite soon and thus choose to lie low. But it turned out I played until 02.00 so looking back I should have intervened in the war that all the rest were in. Both sides asked for help. No doubt the side would have won who I joined. But who would I join? Germany's two best friends SPA and AUS was yet again on opposite sides in the war.

Shortly before I left I suddenly realised that Russia had somehow gotten Astrakahn, Orenburg and Ural back - thus all our great work to get them down to a level where the rest of us work from is spoiled. They are yet again a gigant. Although not quite as strong as they were some 40 years ago.

I strongly recommend anyone playing Germany to immediately DOW Russia at the start of the next session. Checking the stats side indicates that it should be not that difficult to early on build up a +99 war score and then issue stab hits until they cave in. It is imperative to not let Russia get time to build up her strength. If that happens Germany is in danger because Russia's prime enemy is Germany, who have taken some 7 provinces from Russia the last 50 years.

Germany should try to expand in Scandinavia and then ask for Scandinavian culture after the next session.

Interestingly I chose to build 5 CCs this late in the game. Whether that was wise or foolish depends on the number of years this game will continue.

For the one playing Germany I would also recommend making every possible slider move towards decentralisation.

I will post edit requests for the next session later this week.

Update

Uploaded an update today, which can be found at :

http://rapidshare.de/files/6684592/TfG.zip.html

Not a ton changed -- just point file handling (there's now pre-calculation, post-calculation, and post-edit files which are all separate).

Also, colors added for countries, which I hope is working properly. I'm sure some of them are horrendous, but you guys can play around with the colors in admin.txt. They're all in hexadecimal format RRGGBB.

Stuff for the future...

I'll try to find some time soon and make it easy to play with point costs. Also, I think culture upkeep is something that has been long overdue, so it's something I've been thinking about. In the meantime I need to think about what is a fair penalty.

I am thinking increasing prestige penalties per province not owned. Like, for example if you were missing one province, you'd take a penalty of 1. Miss two, and you'd lose 1 + 2 = 3 total. Missing 3, and you'd take 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 total. Note that these are in no way final. It certainly is interesting to watch Russian, and to a lesser extent, Ottoman expansion into the ROTW-- but it certainly becomes unbalancing when they can draw manpower from it, whereas no one else can. Certainly, it's been a highly successful strategy in this game, and one that's difficult to counter... but it's not exactly what I would call an intended effect of the culture claiming rules, which admittedly were more focused on getting players to fight over European cultured provinces more and attempt to 'collect them all'. And on the flip side, force countries to band together to stop any nation's aggrandizement if it got too close.

Along with this will come the necessity for a lose culture command, whereby a player can voluntarily drop a culture (and therefore potential penalties) for some points back.

Another thing I've been thinking about is decaying cores. If you lose control of a province for x years you lose your core on that province. I'm thinking about x at 30, 50, or 100 (haven't decided yet and depends also on the next). I've also been thinking about adjusting the claim price formula and making it more expensive.

One further cool idea I've been mulling after a talk with balinus a while ago was espionage. This could be directed against enemy installations (forts, manufactories, ccs, shipyards), enemy DPs, enemy cores, revolt risk, or used to create an insurrection. i haven't really fleshed these ideas out or costs, or the necessity of keeping identities a secret, because covert ops should be well, covert. But it's something to think about, and something that could add another layer of depth and intrigue. I think the best way to hire this would be to allow everyone a set number of actions (say 5)

Speaking of monarchs, I might add a randomization utility for that too at some point.

Just some random thoughts-- please feel free to share your experiences and feelings.

Well, lets see. String has agreed to become a perm, taking care of France I suppose. I assume Raspoutan and Rappar are still on board also, so that should take care of Russia and England. Which leaves Germany, for the next two weeks while Daniel is gone. We'd love to have you sub Germany:).

Thanks for new version. I will test it soon.

I was also thinking about it, but I am not sure how will your idea work. It seems logical but I think it needs some tests.
