You're correct, I thought I had been up to date, but it seems even I as GM was failing in my AAR duty
I'll post a short one now, a little late, but here nonetheless
France 1600 - 1619
This session was marked by concerns over England's monopoly of the Far East. France first finished teching infra 5 and then began the process of strengthening her navy. Also during this time, Liguria + the rest of the Carribean was purchased from the Spanish (who proved to be treacherous next session under our regent). After several years, the French naval fleet was moved from Provence to the Atlantic, and war was declared with Austria against England. The English navy was quickly defeated and Austrian troops landed on the mainland (I had still not rebuilt the French army properly at that time, so French troops were still massing and loading, and did not dare to move my fleet away from outside London for fear of the English exploiting our navies). After most of her fleet was sunk, England wisely agreed to trade maps and gave up Flandern to Austria and Sicily and Messina to France, rather than drag out the war. Several years passed in peace, and then the Austrians invaded. The French bravely resisted, but due to the intervention of the lag monster and the skill of the Austrians, our army was annihilated at Artois. Only the mediocre leader Zeitgeist (3-3-3) remained to face the Austrians, led by von Wallenstein and since the main French army had been annihilated along with their apparently asleep leader (3-4-4), there was no hope of resisting further. France agreed to cede Switzerland to the Germanic hordes.
It seems that peace was a pipe dream though, since under our regent between 1619 and 1643, the Spanish attacked viciously, gaining much of the Carribean. The French, led by the brave Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne de Turenne rallied later and invaded Spain but were forced to WP by the intervention of the Austrians.
