Perhaps it's less biologically implausible if he became a grandad in 1982? :)

This is very true, however if you've ever been to Croydon you'd find it's VERY plausable. :)

Used to cruise through regularly as it happens :) Used to spend a lot of time around the ol' Purley Way (not quite Croydon I suppose, but close.) My best friend lived in Coulsdon for many years and I visited often. Then I lived in Streatham twice, most recently up until June of this year. Now I've cruised as far as I can down the A23 and am in Brighton :)

Croydon's not so bad. But I won't ever forgive you for Ikea. God, the numbers of times the (ex) missus dragged me round that god forsaken hell hole. Only compensation was the meatballs and the strawberry tart thing. Still dreadful though.

I think you've more than put in the time to safely say you're very nearly a native yourself! ;)

Nah, Croydon isn't as bad as some places I suppose. Growing (being dragged) up here you appreciate the reputation that comes with it.

Please accept on behalf of the entirety of Croydon our most sincere, collective apology for the suffering you endured at the hands of Ikea and sincerely hope it wasn't an overriding factor in the missus becoming an ex or your subsequent move down south. Do you come back up much?

Oooh probably should get this back on course... Things I wish i'd known before...fighting in the mountains is unbelieveable and nothing more satisfying that winning the HYW using that tactic as England.

When you integrate or annex diplomatically, you get their armed forces, which can quickly blow up your military budget unless you prepare in advance - so plan and rationalize your military ahead of time or save up cash and burn them up in an immediate war.

I wish I had understood the vassalage/religion/release mechanics - would have saved a lot of time and resources.

France is an asshole and will attack you all the time. Send diplomats to improve relations to delay the attacks.

Seriously, France is evil. They keep wiping me out.

Although I should note that since taking my own advice and sending diplomats to improve their opinion of me, I have more time to prepare my armies, and so far have been able to push them back and even take a few of their provinces in my current game.

If you are the war leader, and win the war, you can "offer tribute" and have your allies give up provinces:

Teutonic order attacks Poland/Lithuania. Russia, allied with Poland, becomes war leader, and stomps the tiny nation.

At the peace table, Ivan Rurikovich demands: RELEASE UKRAINE.

Teutonic order: Sure, no problem.

Lithuania: ... remind me to never click that "can negotiate" button.

Now I finally have a use for allies!
You, esteemed sir, are one devious bastard!

Now I finally have a use for allies!

This is so gamey it never even occured to me, it took me a minute or so to realize but it's almost too gamey to understand what's happening (does it still work in 1.4)

I guess this is why the Allies in WW2 always had conferences where they negotiated beforehand what would happen in even of peace.

That specific case would be gamey, but let's remember that in real life, diplomats may have had some authority to negotiate in a certain way for a peace treaty (they didn't have internet back in the day so the king for example wouldn't always check back how the negotiations were going all the time. It took some correspondance and time to do it that way)

Although I suspect that the Polish diplomat in question here, may or may not have remained very long in the Polish king's good graces if you know what I mean :ninja:

I wish I knew how fantastic innovative ideas are. Not openly flashy, but it contains arguably the most powerful military bonus in the game (tradition decay). On top of this add reduced prestige decay, cheaper mercs, tech cost reduction, reduced recruitment time, war exhaustion reduction, an extra free leader, and cheaper advisors...yeah awesome. If that doesn't do it for you, innovative significantly reduces MTTH on the agricultural revolution event which can make your country rich if you have a lot of grain provinces. Add the liberte, equalite, fraternite event and I'm sold. Ask your doctor if innovative ideas are right for you!!!

- Ledger is very useful. In particular, country, army, navy, province overviews, trade goods pages.
- Recruit all cav/art from key provinces with army building T1-3. Those buildings reduce the recruitment cost and maintenance of the regiments from that province.
- Set every single HRE members as interesting if you are playing as Emperor. It will let you know every single chance to interrupt internal conflicts.

Very good idea. And do this at least for the Emperor, and all Electors, if you are trying to become HRE Emperor. It will show you opportunities to Enforce Peace to get into wars to vassalise electors, and into wars against the emperor to make use of those vassalised electors, and to drop HRE Emperor's prestige.

The AI ignores attrition at sea (or doesn't get it) and thus will be able to stage naval attacks very far away from any of their land or colonies.
