I'd like to add that paratroops cannot take defended areas when dropped. So the invasion of Crete can never happen.

The reintegration of Alsace-Lorraine is coming for both nazi and imperial Germany, in latest stream you can see they added focuses for it aswell as Operation Tennenbaum.

Yugoslavia is a mess at the moment, the annexation focuses by Germany are basically the same as annexation of Czechs. I know DoD tried to add some of the stuff like the coup but a lot of stuff at the moment is bugged and not handled properly. On most historical games Britain always declares war on Yugo if they decide to remain neutral (which makes no sense) and worst part is they auto-join Axis even if coup happens which is the main reason why the country got invaded in reality. To finish with borders, Croatia is missing Bosnia if they get spawned during the invasion and Slovenia needs to get properly split between Germany, Italy and Hungary.

When it comes to partisans i hope they will have a bigger role in the future, Yugoslavia was considered to have the most effective ressistance in Europe and if we will talk about missing events, we need Warsaw Uprising.

One more thing about Yugoslavia is that the focus chain is too long for what it yields. It's quite useless and its better just to fabricate the normal way and invade.

One focus which start off event chain would be better.

I have never seen the AI have Pearl Harbor Happen, with the Americans declaring war on the Japanese.

Very strange. I think they need to tweak the Pearl Harbor Gamble focus for the AI

-Most historical foreign volunteers or soldiers in exile (Czechs, Poles, etc.)

This is one of the reasons why, before launch, I had said there should be a Victoria 2 style population system or at least something that vaguely resembles it.
This way, countries like the UK or France could raise colonial regiments IN the colonies.
You'd also be able to simulate exiled soldiers better. Instead of just being another division with a slightly different division design, it could be made up of pops from the other country.

I believe the Division designer hadn't been revealed when I first said this would be a good feature so they could easily work the division designer into the pop system. For example; Playing as the UK, maybe you want your mountaineer troops to be mainly made up of your Nepalese or maybe you want your Scottish troops to fill that role. It'd be entirely just for flavour but I'd love that level of roleplay.

Some of those like Stalin dying are past 1948 so unless there is a DLC to stretch the timeline PI won't be including those. You'll have to mod that in.

Right, right. The focus tree mod I use for China does patch in an event where Stalin dies and the infighting begins.

Paradox did say in their Cornflakes wishlist dev diary that they're thinking of perhaps implementing some early Cold War mechanics, such as the Korean War. But I don't think they'll go beyond the early 1950s if they do so.

If the Continuation War is a rare beast, the Lapland War is an extinct species. I.

Finland is a tricky one. I have no idea how you could simulate the USSR doing so utterly shite in the Winter War as a player. Half the time the event triggers and its not even in Winter anyway. Likewise for the continuation war. Its just so easy to just stomp Finland. I find it harder fighting in Romania as USSR than Finland. The Purge Mechanic should basically make it extremely difficult to wage any offensive wars until 1941, in an historic game against the AI that should only cover Finland. Org should be maybe max 25% and maybe it gives you negative Army exp points to simulate the refusal of Soviet High command to update tactics/division structure so you are stuck with the same templates you start with until the Winter War finishes.

As per the continuation war I dont really know, maybe there should be an event for Finland to get the Mannerhem line to fort level 10.

  • Massive month-long battle at Shanghai in 1937
The closest you could get would probably be a month-long amphibious attack by Japanese forces on Shanghai, however you'll never see the kind of disproportionate casualties that occurred historically. Historically, of course, the Japanese were there already and the battle began with a Chinese assault on their positions.

To model it properly you'd need to have a multi-state Shanghai to show the Japanese-controlled areas and the international zone.

  • The Battle of Taierzhuang, or the first successful Chinese encirclement and their first actual victory.
Debatable whether it was either of those things. The Japanese claim (not entirely convincingly) that they only retreated due to a communications mix-up. Of course, the Chinese ended up losing Xuzhou and Wuhan after that. More to the point you definitely can defeat a Japanese invasion as the ROC with battles in-land so I'm not sure you won't see anything like this in-game.

What you don't see is the Japanese capturing most of China's main cities, then siting down to try to win a political victory by starving out the ROC and setting up their own puppet government as they did historically until the Ichi-Go offensive. Instead in HOI4 either Japan wins or it loses within a year or two.

Agreed on all other points.

I'd like to add that paratroops cannot take defended areas when dropped. So the invasion of Crete can never happen.

It actually is possible to win paradrop battles where you land on the enemy, it's just rare and impractical because of the low organization and sometimes damaged paratroopers on drop. Nevertheless, against a sufficiently battered enemy I have landed on top of enemy forces, landed adjacent anticipating them forcing my paratroopers to retreat, then was surprised to see I instead took the province.

If Finland would get a good Div template and Mannerheim as a FM they would fare much better against the Soviets. The Mannerheim-line wouldn't hurt either, though the forts are less necessary IMO.

Brazil (or for that matter, any south american country) joining the allies while remaning "non-aligned".
Granted, Getúlio did see eye to eye with Hitler regarding some policies, but in the end, he saw it was better to side with the giant next door than the one across the atlantic.

- The Japanese recklessly attacking Pearl Harbor and choosing to target battleships instead of infrastructure. Instead, as of now, the game bizarrely gives a nod to the lunatic conspiracy theory about Roosevelt facilitating the attack.

- Yamamoto's Midway gambit, and the decisive role played by reconnaissance, intelligence & radar in turning what should've been a pitched battle into a one-sided annihilation.

I hope this changes with the DLC, and events / focus tree choices will actually result in both Midway & Pearl being given due respect.

  • D-Day landings in Normandy, specifically. The AIlies actually land at Calais in-game, most of the time...which is exactly where the Germans thought (incorrectly) the Allies were going to land in real life.
Replace "Eisenhower" with "the AI" here:;)

Also it'd be rather simple in coding terms to actually make Romania switch sides during a war, using the Civil War mechanics.
(Or at least it'd be simple for someone who has the faintest idea what he's doing, unlike a certain somebody who had to mess around with the code for multiple days to just get the basics to work!)

I would love that .
But I would be already satisfied if there would be a National Focus for Free France to „core“ their colonies and build units in Africa .
Sure France was not the Big Player in WW2 like in WWI but they should at least do something after the fall of France then nothing. Just seeing them hustling with 3-4 divisions across africa is really sad

In fairness, that's pretty historical.

Haha you‘re right .
But I think u know what I mean .
There were battles where the troops of Free France helped quite a lil bit , especially in Africa (Pierre König and his help against Rommel ) and Middle East (Legion d‘orient ) .
I don’t think France should be a Powerhouse , but it should have the possibility to intervene and help ,even when capitulated.

Washington Naval treaty / Panama Canal
Granted the way hoi4 is setup it would be harder to implement than say hoi3, where you have some control over how much armor / firepower / speed a ship is built with. As complex as Europe is I get why Paradox focuses a lot of attention there, but it would be nice if the rest of the world got a little more love.

Personally I'd love to see a DLC variant of the game start in November 1918 when the treaty is being negotiated. No control over industry, research or country development, just a little bit control over how the world gets split up and some of the major treaties like the naval treaty / league of nations or how harshly Germany is treated after the war. I think the 1.5 update would accommodate this approach pretty easily. Then let the game pick up in 1936.

Hopefully Finland gets the attention it deserves in the inevitable Nordic DLC.

Yeah, but once that drops Sweden will probably be so OP that Finland gets annexed along with the rest of the world long before the Winter War fires!
