Things leaked on stream today

I didn't see another thread like this on the forum yet, so I felt it was time to make one.

There were several things leaked directly or indirectly on stream today including but not limited to:

1. new (naval?) encryption techs
2. new synthetic techs (presumably related to fuel)
3. Mexico focus tree
4. changes to naval doctrines (it could be that Daniel didn't feel the need to research them because he couldn't produce or research ships without showing off unfinished/unannounced content, but I felt it was a rather deliberate avoidance)

Post pictures from the stream if you have the patience to get them and speculate wildly!

Looks like oil refineries. So you'll have to convert oil into fuel as a seperate mechanic.


Ooh, and yea, the US land based naval bombers are now patrol craft, which is something I always renamed them but it's nice to a picture to it.

Didn't look to see if they finished off the dive bombers witht the A-24 Banshee and A-36 Apache.

So these are fire control techs, makes sense that they would branch off from computing technologies.

Ffs I really hoped it wasn't Mexico.
1. Not a democracy
2. Doesn't really have a navy
3. Wasn't in exile
4. The colours of the Netherlands and Mexico aren't that similiar
5. Far away from the fighting
6. Just a shitier version of USA or Canada
7. Not fun/boring
8. They weren't good at a specific area of research, so in mp they'll be really ahistorical (like only air Hungary or Heavy tank South Africa/Bulgaria)
9. Predictable focus tree

Argentina would be a better choice than Mexico. A lot of option for reforms. Option to bring in Peron for a an early take over which could lead to a potential "Anschluss" of Uruguay and Paraguay. Expansionist war for minerals against Chile and Bolivia. War against Brazil would be the equivalent of Germany invading the USSR.

Mexico?

A consequence of doing focus trees by theme (though I don't think "minors adjacent to reworked majors" is much of a rationale to begin with) rather than addressing the most glaring omissions. I'm overall quite excited for MtG (or perhaps just the patch, we'll have to wait and see) because of fuel, naval updates, and the research time changes, but I find the Netherlands and Mexico getting trees before Spain and Finland ridiculous.

This would have been a good chance to expand the air tech tree, making it:

Pre War
1936
1939
1942
1945

And so the jump between each model being less extreme.

I think it's more like countries have to interact with one an other. Podcat singled that as a mistake with Together for Victory: the Commonwealth countries were kind of standing there in their private part of the world. Contrast with Waking the Tiger, where the Chinese factions were all about crossing or cooperating with one an other.

Spain would interact with France and Italy, Greece would interact with Turkey and Bulgaria. Scandinavian and South American countries would be in their respective country packs, per Podcat.

Picking the Netherlands left Mexico, Belgium and Ireland - respectively for "interacts with the US", "government in exile" and "interacts with Britain". They picked Mexico, which I assume ties into the American Civil War.

I think the more interesting latin american countries can be found in South America, but I guess it's easier to shoehorn in Mexico.

I'll just repeat something I posted elsewhere.

Mexico joined the Allies in 42 (other Latin American countries joined shortly afterwards for with mostly resource contributions), provided a lot of steel for US, it's said that up to 250k Mexicans fought in various armies, primarly US, mainly to get citizenship (though cannot completely corroborate), there was the Mexican 201st Air squadron that helped in the Pacific (though they admittedly sucked a bit). A Mexican diplomat and politician helped 40k jews and other french get out of France and into Mexico during the invasion of France. Mexico was also the only country to actually protest the Anschluss of Austria (and as thanks Austria renamed one of their parks as Mexicoplatz). So and so on.

Mexico almost went to war with US, Belgium and England in 38 because of the oil expropiation, Germany apparently contacted Mexico earlier during the war to invite them to the party just like with the Zimmerman telegram, Mexico almost got a lease of some hundreds of stuarts from the US to raise a Mexican armored division to help in the war. Mexico raised a near 'secret' army of 100k people armed with shotguns and lassos to help in the unlikely event Germany invaded the country, etc., etc., etc.

1) The 'Democracies' metric doesn't really work because history, Mexico was still a Democracy in most senses.
2) If you dig a little, most Latin American countries have at least something cool to say about the time period anyways.
3) I didn't actually expect latin american countries to make it into this bout of countries that get national focuses, but I'd at least like the people to stop saying nothing interesting happened in Mexico, or the vast majority of latin americas for that matter, that couldn't be made into at least interesting events and decisions.

Still got the XP 58 Chain Lightning.....don't know why, it was a failure and was canceled. The 3rd gen Hvy Ftr SHOULD be the P61 Black Widow which was operational from 1944 to 1954.

Agreed! One more tech would help a lot. Although I would suggest the last one before 1945, since you by that time most likely would have jet fighters. What about:

The problem with that is why would you ever build variants? If it's only 2 years before you get a new tech level then you would always save your xp to front load the new design and never alter your current production.

I'm really disappointed with the choices to give tree to Netherlands and Mexico. Why not Greece or Spain, both get a navy and played a much more important role during the period
