It's a awesome mechanic. I don't know why it'd be a killer? That doesn't make sense at all. It adds something to let you know what a unit is doing, it's awesome. It's silly to get all hyped up about something like that. What do you suggest they do? Put a big red dot under the unit for training or what? It's a easy way to let the player know whats going on without douching it up with silly marks and notifications, this is the right direction.
I never said counter only, but it was in the DD that is now locked Podcat said that there would be nato counters as a choice for what is depicted below the sprite. I'll see if I can find the link.Oh, don't be like that. I have faith in our dear Had a dad for delivering us from the darkness with a link to this joyous statement.
Think I'm in for a rude awakening? Then again, it could be a mix-up in communications, as counters (the stuff visible in current screenshots) != NATO counters.

Full quote about itIt's a mix up in communication. Right now infantry, tanks, etc. are using symbols (helmets for infantry, etc.) made by the dev team to designate type on the counter you see below the model. They will add an option to use NATO symbols instead when the game is closer to release.
podcat said:NATO or icons?!
From a pure game design standpoint nato counters are insane. There is almost nothing about the symbols that indicates what they symbolize, so thats why they arent the standard symbol for stuff. However, in wargames they are pretty common so a lot of people have experience with them and so including them is a no brainer because plenty of players wont have to relearn a new icon set and feel at home. So we are giving players the choice between both NATO and regular symbols.

Seriously, who cares?
Dudes . . . you think this is a joke, we have someone in real pain here! Be more sensitive!!!Febuary 23rd, 2015 is a day I will always remember. It was the day I became cynical, bitter, and distraught. You may call it an overreaction for me to feel this way simply because of the business practices of a single video game company, but let me explain what all of this means to me.
My life was thrown off balance and I never regained my footing after that day, because I lost my ability to respect. An essential part of being human is to feel respect for those who may or may not be deserving of it. But it is equally human to feel painful disillusionment when someone or something you respected turns out to be much less than you thought. But the level of betrayal I felt when Paradox announced their new animation tore something from me that I'll never be able to recover. They tore away my ability to respect anything, and they tore away my ability to feel human.
Paradox Interactive was a company I respected, and their employees were people I looked up to. Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Victoria, and Hearts of Iron were all quality game series that combined historical accuracy with sandbox game worlds. These games may have been cartoony and humorous at times, but deep down they were always realistic and crafted with a level of detail and skill that won appreciation from gamers all across the internet. EU4 was their newest release, and the internet was in unanimous agreement that it was of unparallelled quality. Following it's long awaited release, Paradox began releasing quality DLC that raised the bar ever higher for Grand Strategy Games.
Then pushups were announced. This was not just an announcement of features, it was announcement of Paradox Interactive's suicide. It was a change intended to completely disregard any historical accuracy, and instead shock the entire world with its lunacy. Paradox Interactive had gone off the deep end and raised the middle finger to everybody who stayed loyal to them. They had announced that they didn't care anymore, that they didn't care for their community, and they were going to go out of their way to sabotage everything they had spent years creating.
The pain I felt from this betrayal has destroyed me on an emotional level, and has deprived me of my primary source of entertainment. No longer can I play Grand Strategy games without remembering the day I ceased mattering to people I devoted myself to. Paradox had not just destroyed me or their company, they had destroyed the one force of stability in the world: Trust.
Is this a joke? What's wrong with the excersize animations? They look cool and they are useful for knowing which units are training. I don't understand how there could be any flaws to them at all.
You'd be fine with counters doing jumping jacks and push-ups?It's a matter of taste, an opinnion. Like the one you just made. If you had actually read through the thread, you'd know what problems people have with the animations.
One problem being: as of now, there is no way to actually turn the 3D models off.
In Soviet Russia, pushups do you! You'd be fine with counters doing jumping jacks and push-ups?
You'd be fine with counters doing jumping jacks and push-ups?
So, what you're saying is that your "3D models can't be turned off" isn't actually related to the discussion at hand, and is instead related to an often discussed, and more importantly, often locked topic. If you instead meant "3D animations can't be turned off", we have no idea if we can or can't turn off animations, unless you have information I don't. I'm sure there are graphical options that are put in there for less enabled computers.I see no logical reason why the counters would be put through such rigorous training. They could relay the information without all the bells and whistles that are animation.
And I really do have no problem with people playing with all the animations on and enjoying it. All the better for them.
