Time is changing. There is already 3 versions of Semper Fi on a site we aren't allowed to say here, but some Swedes owns it as well.

You mean you know of a site where a pirated copy of Semper Fi is being provided? Why don't you report such a site to Paradox so that they can do something about it?

OK hold up, at this point I think it will be best to await for an official response from someone at Paradox to clarify exactly what the online activation statement means. AFAIK, nothing has changed from previous titles and what it is referring to is the question of registering the game for forum access.

But let's put down the pitchforks and wait for someone from Paradox itself to clarify the situation rather than going on a multipage rant of vitriol and fury when up to this point there has been no such statement from Paradox that there will be anything more online required that registration only, as it has been for the past several games.

Thread closed awaiting clarification from Paradox. It is the weekend mind, so it might not be until Monday next week before something official is put forward.

It's not a question of whether it will or won't be pirated - but of the rate of pirating, and it's pretty clear that such a move will reduce the rate of pirating of Victoria 2.

Yep it´ll delay the pirated version by some hours and I guess that really helps :rofl:

Anyway IF they really introduce online activation, I´ll stick with Vic1.
I don´t have any problems if you´re only able to download patches if you log-in here or mods or whatever but I won´t Online Activate something.

Up until the official response I was not going to buy. Now, I will... watch the space under my id!

I agree that online activation (like keep the disk in the drive checks) only inconveniences the legitimate customer... the owner of the cracked copy gets the best service. I cannot recall how many times I have had to download cracks for my games in order the circumvent the "copy protection" and avoid having to have the disc in the drive.

and for the record. There isn't a unified definition of "online activation" so don't go comparing that to what some publishers are doing with DRM/online activation.

The whole reason for the hoopla is that we copied the Mount & Blade Warband website when we started on the Vicky2 website. That's why a lot of the info on the website is simply from Mount & Blade Warband.

Retail copies of Warband have a steam wrapper, meaning that first time you install it the game connects online (via steam) and pulls the latest patch. The rest of the time it's entirely up to you if you want to play connected or not.

So to iterate - No Online Activation for Victoria 2 required.
