As you can see to the left, I own quite a few PD titles which are duly registered. Just mention this to point out, that I don't approve piracy and in anticipation of the inevitable flames.
That being said, the registration act was always left to customers discretion with a nice button as incentive. However, according to Vicky 2 site, for the first time a Paradox game will require an online activation and frankly, I'm not willing to let any kind of copy protection impose on me, even it would be a one-time-act and doesn't require to install malware on my system. It's a matter of principle.
If Pd thinks they're big enough now to jump the bandwagon and adopt bad habits of mainstream publishers by offering DLC and clandestinely introducing DRM schemes, that's fine. For the future they can sell their products to an audience, which is accustomed to accept Steam or Securom. I myself won't support them anymore.
