This event seems rather underwhelming. One gives +25 church opinion for one year (telling him to tell the bishops how great you are)

and the other gives .1 piety a month for one year, having him teach you to be a better person.


It just seems to be a largely useless event. At least for the second option. Clicking the second option gives you 1.2 piety in total (unless my basic math is incorrect).

The 0.1 piety/month is, AFAIK, adjusted by the spiritual arts tech, so you might get up to 1.8 piety for it over the year. In absolute numbers it still makes no difference, which is why I am surprised the duration is as short as it is.
I always pick the +25 church opinion, as that will net me a nice income boost from bishops tipping over to like me more than the pope.

The +25 opinion might also make you able to get the pope to lift excommunications on vassals/allies or give other boons, but it's very circumstantial.
