There is no mod or DLC windows.

I got the Game of Thrones mod for CK2 but I can not use it. On the launcher screen is just two white boxes with wording above them saying DLC and Mods. I have tried for the last few days to get this working but I just can't. I can play the game fine but the launcher seems bugged. I have verified game cache (and deleted the exes and then verified again).

Any help?

Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user.
And then check if you can run the game after that.

That stuff usually resolves exactly this problem, are you 100% sure you went through every one of the 6 steps? Did the updates to DirectX appear to actually do anything? What about .NET updates , did it find anything to do?

are you saying this only happened after installing GoT? You had selectable DLCs in the launcher before that?

No I have never been able to see the DLC and Mods windows. Game of Thrones had nothing to do with that.

I went through all of the seven steps (and I have actually done that before, twice I think). Dx installed some things and so did the other packages. The first package couldn't install as it was outdated.

What .NET versions show as installed on your system? Also, you could try running the .NET repair tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=30135

It still doesn't work. I am running framework 4.5(x64).

I think the game uses .NET 3.5 so that's probably your problem. Try installing that (and, there's no particular reason not to install all the >NET versions).

Ah, my apologies, I was thinking of EU3. Looking on my own Windows laptop, I have only "Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile" and "Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended" installed - neither 3.5 nor 4.5, and CK2 and EU4 launchers both work fine on that machine. So try .NET 4 please.

It still doesn't work. The only other fix I can think of is deleting every game file on my system, deleting it from Steam and then re-downloading it. I might try that some time but it wouldn't be for a while with my internet. Anyway thanks for the help.

Can you try this: in the CK2 properties in Steam, Set launch Options, put -forcedlc . That should make DLCs load (I assume they weren't before ...?).

If that works, then instead put -mod=mod/GoT.mod (or whatever the name of the mod's mod file is).

Maybe it has to do with point 13 in "Known Issues" ? Just an idea...

No that can't be the issue as my Steam is installed out of program files. I will try to launch the game in some compatibility modes and see if that helps.

I am sorry I guess I should of said this earlier but I don't own any DLC (mainly because of this problem). With the -mod=mod/GoT.mod thingy what exactly do I put instead of Got? The mod folder in my documents is A Game of Thrones but that doesn't seem to do anything when I put it in the launch options. I can't find any exe files in the mod folder.

Question: I put the mods content in a mod folder inside documents right? That is what I have done but I needed to make a mod folder as there wasn't one in the first place.

Putting things into compatibility mode didn't seem to fix anything.

GoT has an installer, or a .zip version. The installer should put the mod in the right place automatically. The .zip version says to place it in "Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod".

The name of the .mod file that comes with it, exactly. That appears to be A Game of Thrones.mod. If that doesn't work you might try renaming that file to A_Game_of_Thrones.mod and putting that in the launch line.

Here is the pic. WOOOO now I can buy the DLC! I guess it was always working but my mod didn't have a .mod file (I searched for quite a while).
I guess maybe the white borders are just like that because of some weird glitch? When I verify game files it doesn't fix it.
