He probably won't as Kuban is worthless.

But Crimea would be a nice addition, either as an included province or a vassal if it's bad culture and bad religion (and, iirc, it is :D ).

You've got to do something about that alliance with Lithuania.

And fourthly, can you give me the tax income of your provs? I don't have mymap.

How is the research going for the Theodorese... Theodolites... Theodorites... Theodorioi...
err... the Not Yet Big Principality That Could?

IIRC correctly the speed gets reduced as one expands.

Great title and corresponding quality of the AAR by the way. Looking forward to an update when circumstances permit!

Extremely entertaining AAR! Good to see the Theodorian branch of the Paleologos family (Paleologos-Assanine) on the throne of the Eastern Roman Empire. However, Theodoros' involvement in the war against Moldova saddened me. The two countries had close political ties during the fifteenth century, and Maria of Mangop (Maria Assanina Paleologhina), sister of Isaac Sachius, married Stephen VI the Great of Moldavia in 1472.

Laur

P.S. By the way, if you were wandering about Olobei's name, I think his true name was Ioannes Paleologos of Khazaria, son of Alexis Paleologos.
P.P.S. Other names for Theororos are Doro (short form), Mangop and Ghotia (not sure about the last one, but Alexis Paleologos is mentioned as "seigneur of Ghotia" in one of my sources).

Palaeologinas had also married into the Horde, Il-Khans and mamluks. The Ottoman royal line was almost as Palaeologi as the Byzantine royal family. Interestingly, both Konstantinos Drageses and Mehmet II had a Serbian mother. Mehmet II had a Palaelogina grandmother and took another as his wife. But he never got invited to the parties!

Theodorus honoured its military alliance with Lithuania, but did not send any troops. I tihnk knowing when to dishonour a military alliance is aother thing the theodoranspride themselves on. I cannot see them choosing to volunteer to help Lithuania fight the Turk.

Well, Crimea always has it coming.

And you should find someway to edit their long flowing hair onto the sprites if possible. I had a mental image of it that had me rolling on the floor.

stnylan - Exactly, it must be fixed.

Chief Ragusa - They shall have to be, otherwise someone else will ge tem soon enough. As long as they have a border it means I won't be bearing all the brunt of the OE.

GrimPagan - Especially when allied with Lithuania.

Terraferma - Not-yet-big but getting bigger :D

Grundius - I'd really like to. That means a lot of wars with the OE but I will try.

Rotten Venetic - They only own Crimea now. I'm debating whether to annex or vassalise. They are wrong religion and culture but nonetheless will probably get converted at some stage and are a handy buffer for my capital.

SunZyl - Thanks, will do if I can. The update will be up in the next couple of days.

Salander - Thanks.

Tskb18 - Thanks, tech is going quite well. Being small and aving two COTs makes a big difference. I'll check the tech values for the next update.

Ladislav - I can't foresee any of them.

Laur - Thanks. I'm impressed by your knowledge of Theodoros' history. I didn't really want to get into the war with Moldovia and tried to show the population upset by it. However if I hadn't it would leave me open to Ottoman attack. I didn't really think Olobei was a Tatar name but it does sound somewhat like a Tatar name.

Chief Ragusa - For a small nation they certainly got around. I will be forced to fight the Turks I believe for the first thing they shall do is head for Constantinople.

coz1 - That they did. I like the idea of editing the sprite to have hair, I think its beyond me though. I will have a go.

Vassalize. Let them stay what ever religion they want and don't ally with them - how's that for a buffer? If you manage to craftily keep Crimea alive and muster a large fleet of galleys, you're invincible. Oh and you have to keep up in naval tech, did I mention that? :D

Chapter 9 - Spreading the Word
5-header.png

When we last left the best nation of the Northern Black Sea we saw the region embroiled in vicious wars between the vassals Abkhazia and Imereti and, more importantly, between Theodoros and Crimea. The war was going somewhat predictably. The unkempt Crimean army was cut down already and all that remained was for the Theodorans to take control of Crimea. That was completed in short order. But to the surprise of many international commentators peace was not made.
37-crimeataken.png

Crimea taken but peace not given
Peace was expected soon, for surely the Theodorans would want to spend no more time than necessary in the unsanitary conditions of Bakchi-Sarai.
Dreadlocked_rasta.jpg

Just some of the horrors witnessed by Theodorans in Crimea
But documents were discovered in the Crimeans palace indicating that Tripoli had sworn themselves to the Crimean cause. They had declared war on Theodoros but been too cowardly to send an envoy to Doros acknowledging the act. This resolved Alexander to bring the war to Tripoli. They would pay for their insolence.

In war for the love of Theodoros, Abkhazia was to arise the victor, Imereti was annexed. Prince Alexander was not upset. Love for the fittest was his philosophy and clearly that was Abkhazia, plus he liked their name better.
38-knowwhotolov.png

At last Theodoros knows who to adore the most
Not all were happy with this though. In Kaffa the IFC (Imereti Fan Club) denounced the annexation as greedy and immature and took to the streets demanding Theodoros step in and free Imereti. Alexander had to argue otherwise and quickly dispatched Theodoran troops to settle the disagreement.
39-imeretifanclub.png

I disagree with what you say and will put you to death for daring to say it

Mid way through 1489 the Theodoran army staged their attack on Tripoli. A short battle ensued but the Tripolitanians showed themselves to be no better than the Crimeans they had come to the aid of. Within hours all that remained was to capture the city of Tripoli.
40-foolish.png

Foolish

After years of providing the shampoo to the army, the Theodoran National Hygiene Concern decided to make it's product available to the general public. It was a move welcomed by all as at last every woman, man and child could rejoice in shiny, knot-free scented hair. The company quickly had a monopoly on the market and presented Alexander with a gift of money to thank him.

As 1490 came to an end so too did the last resistance in Tripoli. The city surrendered and peace was made on conditions of 100 ducats reparation, vassalisation and the promise that the Tripolitanians would spread the good word about hygiene.
Crimea was forced to accept peace on similar terms a month later. Alexander though held out little hope of the hygiene message getting through for the Crimeans seemed to actually revel in filth.

To the east the lands of the Ottomans were in turmoil. Revolts were widespread and no army was near to quell them.
41-bigrebellions.png

Will this mean more lands for Theodoros?

1495 saw a dangerous 'thinker' emerge. He went by the name of Andromache. He preached an idea of what he called 'germs'. He claimed that 'germs' were everywhere, even in the clean lands of Theodoros. It should be remembered that if theres one thing Theodorans pride themselves on its their hygiene. So they didn't take kindly to Andromache calling them dirty. Therefore there was widespread approval when Alexander locked up Andromache in the palaces least clean cell. No more would anyone preach ridiculous ideas of 'germs' and other such invisible dirt.

The rebels to the east declared themselves no longer part of the Ottoman lands the next year. Unfortunately they decided to join the Golden Horde rather than the free lands of Theodoros.
43-neighboursagain.png

I never wanted it anyway
There was concern that now Theodoros and the Golden Horde once again shared a border there would be a resumption of hostilities. Sure enough war soon returned to Theodoros. Not because of the Horde but rather because, surprise surprise, Lithuania made the decision to declare war upon the Livonian Order. Alexander honoured the call to war but Lithuania was really pushing it these days starting so many wars. One day Theodoros and the rest of the allies would abandon her. Alexander hoped that day was soon.

Might I suggest an old remedy I learned from back in the Crimean War...one of the many...a shampoo/conditioner mix? It truly works wonders. Vidal Sasoon had one a few years ago that was an outstanding product. Sounds like your armies could use it. ;)

Clearly Theodorous will have to take seriously the mission of spreading the message of hygiene to the Horde at some future point.

Lithuania's harmless. They do all the fighting and you get a share of the loot. It's not like they're declaring war on the Ottomans. Those rebels were obviously of the dirty, unkempt persuasion and you certainly do not want wrong culture and wrong religion in your nice clean lands.

coz1 - You learned that in a war? What on earth were you doing there?

stnylan - Can't have dirty Tatars spreading their filth anywhere near the great Theodoros.

Grundius - It would be a nice bonus.

Chief Ragusa - True and good point. It is irritating though because it keeps increasing my war exhaustion and every so often some nation decides to land a couple of thousand troops in Byzantion. No real harm but the loss of income through looting is annoying.

Fulcrumvale - I really like your sentiments :D

All - I'd just like to encourage everyone to get along and vote in the AARland choice awards. The more votes the better it is. The link is in my sig.
