*ahem* Not in Basic. My experience was that we were allowed to use payphones twice a week for 20 minutes. I hear tell now that in some places you get your cell phones on Sunday. Though no wifi. Saturday is a workday in Army Basic.



You mention "A school", so you're in the Air Force? Air Force is relatively cushy*, I'm pretty sure you'll get your personal electronics not long after Basic (no one in any branch of the military ever calls Basic Training "Boot", that is Hollywood), unless your training wing has someone stupid that gets your privileges taken away. @Karimas is kind of right, I recommend looking at laptops, if you don't own one already, since you'll be doing a lot of moving and space will be at a premium.

*Exception: If you're going Security Forces, that's like the infantry of the Air Force, you probably won't get much privileges for a while

I joined the Army in SEP 2008, I went direct from Basic to Officer Candidate School, which is unusual. The soonest I played a game was March 2009, because OCS is a bitch and the prior enlisted are a-holes to new cadets.

In retrospect, initial training sucked more than almost anything, but I don't even remember what games, movies and TV I missed. My friends and family were bigger a deal.

I'm joining the navy. I believe the AF calls it tech school, but I may be wrong. I got SECF, so after RTC I'll be off to basic enlisted submarine school, then A school and so... it's going to be a long journey.

I'm sure it will be a long time until i can even think about missing games, but i sure will be happy to get into HOI4 whenever the future allows. Cheers all!

Maybe in the Navy it's called "boot". Air Force and Army are closer in culture, while the Marines and the Navy tend to do things similarly.

For "fun" in Basic, the only media we were allowed was the Bible. Not even the full Bible, in the one hour "free-time" before bed I read the New Testament for fun until the last week when a soldier with a biography of Gen. Tommy Franks was recycled into our platoon. Hearts of Iron is going to seem like an entertainment cornucopia after that. Have fun at Great Lakes!

At least I got to play Stellaris for a short while. I've got a good year of A school in CT after boot so I have no idea when I'll get a chance to try HOI4.

Which one? You'll soon be off to rotten groton where our not-so-finest will train you in the proper care and protection of the important part of the ship, which is everything in the engineering spaces. I assume before that you'll be headed to great mistakes for boot camp?

I don't have boot camp, but I just found out I'm going to be in a similar boat, well in the way that a toyboat for the bath is similar to an oil tanker. Pre-ordered, planned to play with friends on launch, but now I'm likely to have to take off for a month. Was really looking forward to this. Suppose after waiting 2 years since announcement, another 2 weeks won't be the end of me though.

CT type, as a chief once told me "that some super secret grey squirrel shit there". So its either Corey Station, Pensacola or Language school at Monterrey, Califronia. CTN here, I got the 'special' experience of A School in Florida in the summer.

I've been so excited for this game since it was announced a a couple of years ago. SO EXCITED. Then I come to find the release date is set for June 6th. I'm leaving for bootcamp on the 1st.

You can say no up to getting on the bus to meps to depart. Not saying you should. But the current day Marine Corps is not what it was. Many of us dislike it but you will have fun. Wouldn't change it any other way. Look into MSG duty after 2 years in the fleet.

Things have changed since the Vietnam era draft, US military doesn't want soldiers who don't want to be there. Executing people is also very expensive. The easiest way to leave the military is to smoke marijuana and piss hot (test positive) on a urinalysis. One of the first things you'll do when you enter the military is take a drug test but I do not recommend this. It will take around 3 months to chapter you out, so you won't get to play HoI4 any sooner. You can do it, Seaman

I had a sergeant whose retirement papers keep getting postponed multiple times. He didn't want to jeopardize his severance by pissing hot so he got tattoos on his hands, which will get you kicked out, but isn't as severe.
