It's is a very interesting story, indeed, you're posting here. I read everything in one shot ! Perhaps I missed a part, but a very basic question used to disturb my reading: how did you managed to hire some additional troops, while being DEEP into debs ?

If I understand what you are asking, then the answer is simple. Vicky allows deficit spening on troops. Of course at some point you can borrow so much money that the computer thinks you can't pay it back, and then you go bankrupt. But given Germany's economic strength at the time, I'm not to concerned about that happening.

Thank you very much for your answer ! I'm still learning how to play - and this one definitely kiks me forward: as the price appears red when you're in debt, I just concluded you can't buy It... actually never tried to click !

So, of course, this rises another question, more related to your strategy:
If money is not a problem, why such a complicated naval strategy - and not just buy another 100 Dreads to kick the british home fleet ? Same question for land strategy: another 50 divs would have avoided perpetual movements between east and west ?

Thanks for your time,

qwerkus

a, it's more fun this way, :) at least for his readers. We even got a doctrine name out of it! :D

b, i think it's

Of course at some point you can borrow so much money that the computer thinks you can't pay it back, and then you go bankrupt

that part of what he said. Plus increased support costs for the 1985 USN will kill your cashflow - which in V/Ricky is far more important than being or not being in debt at the moment...

A Quick Update From the Far East

The Imperial Japanese Navy (like the British Royal Navy) was in tatters, and Gedicke and von Spee were simply patrolling the area looking for stragglers they could sink.

The decision was made to separate their squadrons once again. Von Spee was to patrol the waters around Japan while Gedicke was responsible for taking out any Japanese ships being forced out of their Korean harbors by the advancing German army.

Gedicke found is first victims on April 16, 1917

Von Spee found his new prey the following day.

apr171917vonspeeod1.png

In the two battles, von Spee sunk the Japanese dreadnaught Yamashiro, while Gedicke answered by sinking the dreadnaught Kawachi (the battleship escaped with severe damage).

Gedicke was understandably irritated at this, but fortunately he was attacked by two additional dreadnaughts a couple of days later.

apr201917gedicems4.png

The Hiei was sunk, but the Fuso managed to escape with heavy damage to Korea. This was only a temporary setback, as it was only a matter of time before the German army forced the ships back out to sea.

The score in the far east is now Gedicke: 2, von Spee:1

Japan isn't the threat at this point...

I've been wondering, if you don't want the Ottomans to become too powerful, why don't you just edit it so you're at war with them suddenly. I'm pretty sure you can handle another front.

That won't stop him. Or Gedicke.

So you're saying they're both paranoid schizophrenics?

I mean, the Bosporus is narrow enough to fill with only a handfull of capsized transports...

With German dominance in Europe, the Ottomans won't become a threat. That is until they control the entire Middle East, then oil supplies might force a war. Currently however, Germany should and will not fight a war with the Ottoman Empire.

At present I don't forsee any hostilities between the Ottomans and Germany.

The Ottomans are making gains, but they are in no way a threat (yet). Once the present war is over Germany could look into the possibilities of a war with the Ottomans, but I don't think the masses would support it.

Following the blood bath of Chalons, I think the German people will be pretty well spent, and have little desire for anymore war (for a short while at least :D )

The Naval Race

I wasn’t necessarily planning on running a contest, but why not…

Let’s say for the months of April and May 1917.

Dreadnaughts count for 1 point
Battleships count for .5 point
Cruisers (any kind) for .25 point
Transports don’t count (otherwise Gedicke would sink his own for the bonus pints)

First to set the mood (and make Rensslaer happy)…

rheinland3av1.png

At present the score is Gedicke 2 and von Spee 1, but let’s not forget admiral Röhrl back in the Baltic/North Sea.

For some reason the British continue to send ships into the waiting arms of the German navy.

apr241917againlu4.png

Admiral Röhrl arrives and quickly sins the HMS Resolution before turning on the undefended transports. The British counter by sending in the 2nd Fleet, making the new order of battle…

apr271917northseaoobrf6.png

Needless to say, Röhrl sinks the HMS Ajax, and then makes minced meat out of the remaining 21 transports.

The score is now…
Röhrl 2
Gedicke 2
Von Spee 1

derfflingereu0.png

We begin with von Spee who finds for himself a couple of Japanese battleships…

apr291917vonspeekf0.png

Von spee does what he is supposed to, while…
Not to be out done, Gedicke finds an enemy squadron of his own.

may31917gedickena0.png

He only sinks one of the battle ships before the other escapes to Korea.

The Score now is…
Gedicke 2.5
Röhrl 2
Von Spee 2
