I love it! French General Nihon takes over from British General Haig and they lose 11 divisions!

No word on whether they're all dead, or if they melted away during the change of command!

Keep it up, Quirinus!

All is not Quiet on the Western Front

The battle of Paris was not supposed to be much of a battle. All that was required was for the Germans to hold the French at Orleans...

But the French weren't ready to give up just yet, as more French troops arrived in Paris, it became necessary to bring in another German army that was operating north of Paris. The battle settled into a battle of attrition, but the Germans had the upper hand being both on the defensive, and having a larger force.

oct301914battleofparis6ch.png

In the battle of Orleans, the German reinforcements arrived on Nov 5th, and the battle finally tilted slightly towards the Germans.

nov51914battleoforleans8dq.png

After the fall of Besancon, the few allied forces (5 divisions) that had retreated away were reinforced, and more divisions were added to the army. The new army consisted of 15 divisions under the command of British General Haig. The Germans sent 35 divisions under the command of von Francois (a very confusing name). Two British divisions moved back into Chaumont before the Germans arrived, but the battle finally started on Nov 5th.

Well, the Germans out number the French by about 2 to 1, and this time the French don't have any forts to hide behind. I would say that from the French perspective the odds are not good...

A Random Update

With the arrival of German reinforcements, the battle of Orleans quickly turned to the Germans favor, and by November 15th the battle was all but decided.

nov151914battleoforleans4cw.png

Meanwhile the outnumbered Allies were holding their own in the battle of Dijon.

nov151914battleofdijon6jf.png

From the "I told you so" department, we find that the Serbs launched a counter attack to retake Belgrade, for which the Austrians were (to everyone's surprise) unprepared.

nov151914austrianslosingbelgra.png

On the diplomatic front...

nov151914greekrelationsimprove.png

I think we need to get the Greeks in as quickly as possible before the Serbs annex all of Austria.

The Belgians had been sending numerous peace deals, and it seemed time to finally accept their surrender. What I wanted from the Belgians was the Congo, and the southern half of the country. In addition to this Belgium would come under the German Economic Union (which I interpret as satellite status). Since I did not control the provinces in the Congo, I was unable to send the peace deal that I wanted to the Belgians, so I took this approach...

1. Belgium was made a German Satellite
2. All Belgian land in Europe was placed under German administration pending a future treaty in which some of those lands would be traded for the Belgian lands in the Congo
3. Belgian cores in the Congo were removed

I think this would be a historically plausible peace deal (though I know some may disagree) as the Belgians were completely defeated, and there appears to be no hope of the Allies saving them. Therefore they are better off conceding the Congo, and some territory to the Germans now rather than face harsher terms after a total German victory.

nov151914belgiumsurrenders8wy.png

Off the African coast, the High Seas Fleet was engaged with a small British cruiser squadron (more on this later), and the battle of Accra slowly dragged on.

The Battle of Slave Coast

rheinlandinactionagain3ta.jpg

On November 11, 1914 Admiral Von Spee spotted a squadron of 12 British cruisers, and ordered the High Seas Fleet to attack. Von Spee's plan was to quickly wipe out the 12 cruisers, but things quickly escalated.

By November 15th, the British had brought in 27 more ships. Of the original 12 cruisers, the British lost the Juno, Minerva, Venus, Blanche, and Boadicea.

The New British fleet included 12 Cruisers, 8 Modern Cruisers, 1 Submarine, 2 Dreadnaughts, and 2 Battleships, with more on the way...

The Germans meanwhile had lost 4 of their 5 transports, as well as the Zuhringen (Battleship), and the 2nd Armoured Cruiser Flotilla (Battleship).

Actually the battle will go on for several months. I'm not quite sure how that would translate into real life??? I suppose you could say that it is a series of engagements with the ships breaking off conflict at night, regrouping, and doing it all over agian the next morning.

Yeah, that's not quite realistic, is it?

I feel that the Paradox EU engine is quite unsuited to simulating naval battles. :(

Sheesh guys... I'm hardly gone and you all rush forward with the AAR anyway? Where's your respect! They dont call me joebthegreat for nothing! They dont even call me joebthegreat! Where's the respect! ;)

Maybe half of the crew works days and half works nights on each side and the ships just sit there for months shooting at each other.

Kind of like in the middle ages before knights had horses to carry them how they would walk up to each other and just take turns bashing each other with thier weapon.

and if 4/5 of your transports were sunk initially then I'm guessing your original plans for Afrika won't work anymore?

although it isn't exactly historical, it is awsome. I LOVE THIS AAR!

Quite a few excellent updates! The Iron Skull army sure sounds dangerous ;). We haven't seen them yet, have we? I actually dont mind what you did to Belguim, even though I was originally against it. You gave a good explanation. If you lose the war, you should give back the Belguim provinces as well. Anyways, cant wait for the next update. :) (Hopefully the Austrians wont be annexed by Serbia, in the meantime. ;) )
