The only way to survive as Finland is to play the 1936 scenario and build fortresses and AA's like crazy. That way, if you are lucky, the AI just bombs you with planes.

Now, to fix this situation(and it really needs to be fixed!) I suggest following:
1. Divide Karelian Ishtmus into two:
The other part represents Mannerheim-line and the land near to russian border, and the other represents Viipuri&rest of Ishtmus.

2. Limit the number of units that can be in the provinces near Finland. There relly wasn't dozens of soviet divisions invading Finland from Murmansk, and the reason was very simple; there were only few minor roads leading across the border. The units that attacked were tied down to the roads, and this fact led to their destruction(finnish troops were not tied to roads, and they encircled the russian forces).

In addition, the finnish troops defending northern finland weren't divisions, they were battalions(at least in the start)!

I think each soviet province bordering Finland should be limited to 1 division. With the exception of Murmansk up to 3 and Leningrad with ?unlimited?.

Now, I have already 'complained' about two other issues concerning HoI 2, and both of them were actually how I wanted them to be. Please Johan, tell me you are going to make the provinces have unit limits?

Perhaps the solution could be something like this:

To attack in very low infrastructure province: -50%
- Because of logistical difficulties to bring forward heavy artillery, ammunition etc. etc.

(Mountain Division could perhaps suffer only -10%)

This modifikation means that the Russians can only hope for suceess in the Ishtmus area - where they will run into the Mannerheim fortification belt..Which will take perhaps 100 days to crack :D

And, Finland should sue for Peace after Viborg has fallen, not Helsinki!!

by looking at all the posts i believe the only problem with HOI is just in how battle works and the leaders skill ...
it seems that the only problem with russia IRL was the lack of good leaders/combat tactics. Maybe a better system to HOI 2 :p

Winter War

I'm going to try and add to this so that the developers can put together all our wonderful input here:
I think that there should some sort of partisan-like units for all of the Finnish ski troops (i love this conflict with all my heart!) and make there be some sort of an inexperience or overconfidence event/penalty in this rare instance. What i mean is an event that says that 'Stalin says that he is expecting a quick victory... all soviet troops that attack finland are reduced to (blank) attack and (blank) organisation. (so-and-so) divisions are placed on the front' *reinforcements are allowed once the conflict begins and the Soviets attack Finland.
On the topic of Finland taking over Europe, I think that this could easily be limited by giving Finland their historically accurate low manpower (which as I learned with Australia, can limit you alot). This way, they can spit out the divisions that they historically had and maybe a few more, but not any more than that.
My personal opinion is if we can't reasonably integrate this into the game, that we just add it later as a mod for all of us who love the Winter War and want it historically accurate. I don't think we should tie up the developers with trivial items as this (though it is important and i don't think you guys are saying this necessarily). I think that the release version should be left alone in this area and then fixed in either a mod, or a patch.
