I was introducing a friend to CKII yesterday and giving them a broad overview of how to play, and while doing this, I noticed that Prince William of England (son of King Henry I) is listed as dying in 1120 of natural causes. The story of his death is a particularly crazy one - featuring boy racing and a drink-driving accident involving a vehicle - and I was going to initially just suggest it be added to the game, but then I thought it could be worth expanding into an event chain or something...
...so, to elaborate, the White Ship Disaster happened when Henry I and his heir Prince William (one of only two legitimate children out of 26) were returning to England from Normandy. Henry was approached by a man named Thomas, whose father had captained the ship that took William the Conqueror to England, and thus he begged to be allowed to do the same for Henry. Henry had already made arrangements, so instead William and his entourage went on Thomas' ship; the 'Blanche-Nef' (White Ship), and proceeded to get roaring drunk along with the crew while Henry started sailed home. In the middle of the night, the very-drunk passengers insisted upon setting sail and racing Henry's ship, and they proceeded to smack into a rock and sink, killing all but a random butcher who'd been onboard to collect a debt...and as a result, England plunged into the 'Anarchy' several years later, as Henry had a female heir and nobles put another relative on the throne, sparking a civil war.
Anyway, considering how ridiculous this is, it would fit perfectly in CKII as some sort of awful event that can happen to a character with the drunkard trait, perhaps tweaked to involve a horse drawn carriage or something if it takes place on land instead. It could also be edited so that it only fires for unlanded members of the royal family, since the ruling monarch's retainers would probably be a BIT more careful...
(oh, and while I'm here, on the topic of crazy historic deaths, can someone update the history of the Roman Emperors so that their deaths are accurate and not all just "died of natural causes"? Emperor Carus was STRUCK BY LIGHTNING while on campaign in Persia and his troops went "Okay, obviously Jupiter is pissed; this war is over!")
