Citizen Antonine's manifesto for Liberalism:

  • Set up an Equality Commission to investigate incidents of discrimination in all levels of society and to take suitable action against them.
  • Outlaw all discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
  • Continue the development of a mixed economy by converting more state owned industries into employee-run mutuals and passing legislation to enable employees in private corporations to convert to an employee-run model by buying out the owners with the aid of a government-guaranteed loan.
  • Set up a Industrial Bank to provide loans to entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
  • Introduce a localised minimum wage to ensure that all those employed are able to afford to live on their wages.
  • Reform the education system to ensure equal access to pupils and students of all backgrounds.
  • Increase investment in science and technology through research grants.
  • Significantly reduce income tax by introducing comprehensive taxation of land value.
  • Hold a constitutional convention to write a constitution for a federal United Kingdom which will include the replacement of the House of Lords with an elected upper chamber.
  • Take the Crown Estates and the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall into the ownership of a new Sovereign Wealth Fund.
  • Aim to achieve a budgetary surplus within ten years to allow the paying off of the long term national debt and the eventual payment of budget surpluses into the Sovereign Wealth Fund.

Also, hold a referendum on whether to retain or abolish the monarchy - it might be a foregone conclusion but it would establish the principle that the monarchy owes its existence to the support of the people rather than ruling by divine right.

I would only agree with abolishing monarchy if a Lordprotector was named to fill the empty spot.

  • I agree. But the actions may differ.
  • I agree fullheartly.
  • I do not agree at all.
  • What will the terms for this Bank be? Who will it be run by, by which regulations? Will it require more buecracy and significantly increased spending?
  • The wages should be agreed between the employer and employee. The employer and employee should have unions who should negoatiate for them - if they want to. Base it upon the Nordic models. Minimum wage is okay, but if it falls below the market value (for example if it is a production decline, or demand decline) it can have devastating effects and only harm the economy, and result in netto lower wages and higher unemployment.
  • I agree we should reform the education system. Also we should reform the curriculum, and have a more equalist, feminist and pluralist approach. Tear down the social norms in the start, and let the pupils decide for themselves what they will believe or not.
  • What kind of reasearch grants? Could be wiser to for example have tax cuts in bussinesses or industries researching or producing in a certain field.
  • Agree on decreasing income taxes. Same with decreasing other taxes. Land value taxes only if it is a significant decrease. Also decrease it in general to spur economic growth and to let the population keep their own money.
  • I agree, but remember that many countries function well without an upperhouse. So first step would be to abolish it. If it shows that England dominate rest of the Nation through overrepresentation we should implement a upperhouse who secure the interests of the countries.
  • Why? And what would this fund be?

Rosa's feminist agenda ( :p ):

  • Make a reasearch who will out where and how women and sexual and ethnical miniorities are being discriminated. Then make out plans to combat them.
  • Allow women in the stock exchange! It is extremely discriminatory that women are not allowed to be a part of the financial market solely due to their sex.
  • Open up rape crisis centers, or encourage private organizations to do this.
  • Laws against domestic violence. If a woman experience domestic violence, she are to be allowed to filed a case against the husband. And the other way around of course.
  • Equal pay.
  • Define and criminalize discrimination. In social life or instituational.
  • Legalize and humanize abortion. A doctor should have the right to carry out the abortion, only if he is 1) in the private industry, 2) If it is no other doctors there.
  • Open shelters for those discriminated and feeling oppressed by others.
  • Actively support and encorage civil rights movements.
  • Institute a child care pay for families (women) who are expecting a child, and until the kid is of x years of months.
  • Leave for pregant women (after x number of years) and x number of months leave once they have given birth.
  • Educate on birth control and sexuality. Hand out free contraception to women.
  • Reform the school system, to tear down the gender differences and prejudices and systematic oppression of women, ethnical and sexual miniorities. Teach pupils and students about works as "The Second Sex". Also increased sex education, and teaching about the horrors of rape and reach out to pupils and students who have been raped or discriminated in any way. Male or female, black or white, hetero or homo.
  • Women and Men will be completely legal before the law.
  • Being pregnant are no longer a reason to fire someone.
  • In public schools and colleges, merge the women's schools and men's schools. Encourage private educational institutions to do the same.
  • Abolish the Church of England as the official state church. Complete secularization of society.
  • Same legal rights and liberties for every citizen in United Kingdom.
  • Try to also bring these new laws to the rest of the Commonwealth.
  • Abolish conscription. Also make the same sets of rules for women to enter service in the armed forces. If a woman wish to serve, or to be an officer she should be entitled to do so.
  • Sexual Offences Act to overhaul all law relating to sexual activity and to introduce new legislation on the basis that all sexual activity is legal provided that all parties involved consent and that all parties involved are capable of consent (including the provision of an age of consent). - Proposed by Antonine.

  • What's wrong with having workplace democracy just like we have national democracy?
  • It should be run independently but remain under the control of the government and initially funded by a one-off capital injection by the treasury. It's role should be to act as a lender for viable projects and businesses which, for reasons of market failure, cannot obtain funding from private banks.
  • I would not object to government backed industry boards agreeing wages between employers and unions with the government making any agreements legally binding on both parties.
  • Private industry tends only to invest in research which has an obvious economic return. Therefore the government should fund research for research's sake as it is often precisely this kind of research which can yield the most unexpected breakthroughs and advances in human knowledge, often with economic benefits to boot.
  • The fund should function as a national pot of money put away for a rainy day. It should be invested to increase its size and then part of the annual returns on the fund should be used to fund national infrastructure projects or to allow the government to stimulate the economy in the event of an economic downturn. It is crucial if we are to follow the true Keynesian economics of stimulus in a time of an economic downturn but a reduction in government spending and stimulus in the time of an economic upturn.

One additional policy I would propose would be to reform the unions to make it illegal for them to hold a strike without obtaining approval from their members in a ballot first, to ensure that the leaders of unions are democratically elected and to ensure that political levies paid by union members should be paid to the party (or union fund) of their choice rather than union leaders being able to donate to political parties using money from members who may not support those parties.

On the issue of civil rights, I wholeheartedly agree with many of Rosa's proposals.

However, I would personally propose, in addition, the creation of paid parental leave which the parents of a child can choose to split between them how they wish and the reform of the law to strengthen laws against sexual assault, rape and domestic violence, including outlawing spousal rape.

Furthermore, it is vital that the age of consent be equalised for both opposite sex and same sex relations.

Also, hold a referendum on whether to retain or abolish the monarchy - it might be a foregone conclusion but it would establish the principle that the monarchy owes its existence to the support of the people rather than ruling by divine right.

I hereby offer my full support to the Rt. Hon. member for Norfolk on account of him being the only candidate in full possession of all his mental faculties. :p

Ideally, we need a new Sexual Offences Act to overhaul all law relating to sexual activity and to introduce new legislation on the basis that all sexual activity is legal provided that all parties involved consent and that all parties involved are capable of consent (including the provision of an age of consent).

Traitor!

Honestly, what is this opposition to a referendum? If we hold one then I will campaign for the retention of the monarchy and vote for the same. I just think that the principle should be that the monarchy exists because the people consent to it rather than anything else.

Of course, a specific referendum would be unnecessary if we agree a constitution including the retention of the monarchy which was then put to the people in a referendum.

For monarchy: I agree with the refferedum, however it should be a refferendum for every time a monarc dies or abdicides. So if I our current Queen no longer is a monarch, we should have a refferendum of the continuation of the monarchy or nor. Perhaps radicalize it even more by making it into a general election. Either from candidates, politicians, dynasty, nobility or everyone.

A good idea. Only one further change is needed: rename the position of the monarch to "President". After your changes, it's just a small cosmetic change and shouldn't raise any extra fuss.

I agree with that. However our main focus should be in the start to secure the women's rights, then to work out the details. But I agree on that it shoul dbe equal, and that the child should be considered too. I do not wish it to become a matriarchy where the women oppress the men. The initial policies may seem like that, but I assure you I want equality regardless of sex and gender.

Ideally, we need a new Sexual Offences Act to overhaul all law relating to sexual activity and to introduce new legislation on the basis that all sexual activity is legal provided that all parties involved consent and that all parties involved are capable of consent (including the provision of an age of consent).

Good point, should have specified it. So thank you, I'll add it to (my) feminist cause :p

Well if we would need a president, then the population would need to vote against the monarchy. So if the people want the monarchy after each installment of the monarch, we cannot oppose them. If they don't want the monarcy, then we can start to talk about the premisses. I the de-facto head of state should be the de-jure, if we should have no head of state, if it should be a seperate branch and so on.

Oh my. I knew that Liberal victory would be bad, but I would NEVER expect that you Liberals will lose your minds THAT fast. Now please excuse me while I go grab my old Sten machine pistol and my paper hat, it's seems that the end is nigh.

((Now that I wrote this, I would love to see next update start with "Last time, on The Walking Liberals...))

Well I have always been more radical on the social front. The same with Antonine. It is not so likely that the Liberal party will follow all of these points, but I hope it will take them up for debate.

*Andarak begins to fortify his estate*

Fortunately I am no socialist or radical keynesian, so I support your rights to have private property ^_^
