Nah. The National-Liberals want to ban Communist parties and crack down on unions. They are in other words restraining political, social and orgazational freedoms. And the freedom of speech. Also the Conservatives are the only party that want to protect our allies from foreign aggression, commit us to our greatest, and most important ally, USA and help stop unlawful communist spread in the world. They are also the only ones who would like to continue our military dominance after the USA.

Meanwhile Tories and National-Liberals are open to use the military against our own citizens in Northern Ireland. That is very authorian and a breach of basic freedom principles. And the Labour party would like to find a peaceful agreement in Northern Ireland, and to make the armed forces proffesionalized and modernized. But their economic and social reforms will result in disaster.

So yeah, it is a very difficult situation Unless the Tories and National Liberals decide to cooperate. For example following the Tory foreign policy in exchange for moderate Monetarism.

They don't have a formal pact anymore, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Nat Libs would not support a Tory government in the House and vice versa.

The best you could hope for from the Nat Libs would be a 'tolleration' of a Tory minority government in the manner of the Liberals in relation to the Alliance from 1950-58. They would obviously prefer such a government to a more leftwing one.

Yes, this sort of confidence and supply arrangement is what I mean. Let's remember that the Tory contingent in the House consists of some ex-Nat Libs who would likely be sympathetic to such an arrangement.

Actually, all this talk of Nat Libs reminds me of something i was meant to ask you, Tommy: The Nat Lib Manifesto hints that there were some defections from the party to the Tories; did the Member for Dartford happen to be among them?
