Early May 1970

Early May 1970

The Western European Union (WEU) won the battle of Third Yorkshire; only remnants of the defending NATO army escaped pursuit into Liverpool. The battles of Third Edinburgh and Third Liverpool were inconclusive.

Soviet forces occupied undefended Norway; WEU forces occupied undefended Denmark. After the drawn battle of Seventh Kiel, neither the Soviets or WEU had military forces in the province.

The WEU defeated the Soviet offensive against Bohemia in the battle of Second Bohemia; the WEU occupied Budapest from Trieste with support from Vienna.

The WEU won the battle of Fourth Ionian Sea sealing the Soviets out of the central Mediterranean Sea.

Mid-May 1970

The Western European Union (WEU) prepared to surround the last NATO army in Britain although they lost the battle of Fourth Liverpool.

WEU forces won the battle of Eighth Kiel in spite of the Soviet opposition.

I appreciate that you are still pushing on and not abandoning this AAR, even though you get about 1 or two comments per update.
Back on topic, crush them!

NATO getting no help from the other side of the pond?

The only real nation that is left in NATO is the United States, and I think they'd rather be fine letting France take over Europe, if that state acts as a buffer against the Soviet Union. Retaking Europe would be a fine goal, but just impractical, and would waste resources that could be better spent protecting the homeland from communist invasion.

Late May 1970

Late May 1970

The Western European Union organized an army in Paris and a fleet in Brest; it has 21 supply centers, 10 armies and 10 fleets. NATO's last army was still intact. The Soviets were unable to supply their fleet in Sweden because of transportation problems.

Austria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Hungary, and Tunisia became associate members of the European Union (replacement for the Western European Union). The United Kingdom considered its invitation to join but did not reach a decision.

Early June 1970

The European Union (EU) rejected NATO's alliance offer; EU forces occupied Liverpool without a struggle as NATO moved its army to Edinburgh.

Soviet and EU forces were unable to advance after the drawn battle of Third Sweden. The EU defeated Soviet attacks in the battles of Ninth Kiel and Third Bohemia.

The EU prepared to convoy an army from Piedmont to Trieste as well as sending another fleet towards the Mediterranean.

The AI usually respects alliances. With American influence in Europe about to be ended, why would the French-dominated union accept an alliance? DeGaulle really did not like American "meddling".

Mid-June 1970

Mid-June 1970

After losing the battle of Fourth Edinburgh, the last NATO army surrendered to the European Union (EU) fleets.

Neither the Soviets nor the EU made progress in Scandinavia or Germany. Three drawn battles were fought: Fourth Sweden, Tenth Kiel, and Fourth Bohemia.

The EU closed the door from the Balkans to Western Europe by convoying an army from Piedmont to Trieste. A new EU fleet joined the forces in the Mediterranean.
