VJ- I think that neither of us are going to agree about this, or convince the other of anything n particular. I suppose, coming from this after a year of colonial history, I'm probably inclined to view the British as much more conservative and prone to act. While an Argentine-like attempt to return to the glory days of the late 19th century through a coup and 'managed' democracy appears to be plausible to me, it clearly isn't for you. I'd be happy to debate this well past the point of futility, but I'm conscious I'm leaving long, unsightly posts, wasting the bandwidth and patience of people who came here looking for an AAR.
This talk of the three 'umbrellas' makes me wonder if the AAR might mention a certain author, who ought to be sitting at a typewriter in the Scottish isles right about now...
