The Mediterranean Campaign
1460:
With war declared, I gathered the army and marched towards Smyrna, intent on gathering large numbers of small boats and taking the Ionian Islands one by one. Scouts report movement however of Venetian troops attempting a similar attack upon central Hellas. I divide the army, and move in to intercept. Both armies are victorious. Meanwhile Hungary and Wallachia continue their invasion of Croatia and the Adriatic coast.
1461:
Attempting to turn the situation around, a force of Venetians invade Rhodes, beseiging the fortress of the Knights for many months. Meanwhile, we invade Crete and the island fortress of Corfu, and I prepare a relief expedition for Rhodes. The constant wars have taken their toll, and the peasantry rises up to send a message to me. I suppose I should lay back on the warfare for a while. Still ironically the largest uprizing took place in Sochi, where the Venetians were attempting a rather feeble invasion, and they both ended up slaughtering each other.
While we are victorious on land, our naval inferiority is beginning to show. The venetian naval commanders are superior to our own.
1462:
Wallachia annexes Croatia, and stations a large number of troops there, fighting off several attempted invasion by Venice. I recieve word from General Ducas that he has taken the fortress of Corfu. Excellent. I shall give him the island once we are victorious. The Venetians attempt another invasion of Hellas, but are massacred once again by our armies. Unfortunately their Italian allies managed to defeat the army stationed in Greece, and Mantua and Milan began a seige. Furious, I ordered a massive quantity of armored lancers built in Thrace.
1463:
The last fortress in central Crete falls to General Alexus, I believe I shall give him Crete as his domain. Milan takes Athens in a surprize move, capturing the city far before it should have, I must investigate the city for treachery later. Regardless, the 18,000 strong Lancer force made short work of them, annihilating them to the last man. Later in the year, we capture the last Ionian island under Venetian rule. 1463 is a very good year, and this year's olive crop will be a great boon to our economy. Perhaps I should start growing olives on my estate outside Olympia.
1464:
The long battle with Venice's navy drags on and on, as they attempt to regain control of the Bospherus. The invasion of the Adriatic coast is planned.
1465:
We beseige Venice itself, and as we do so, the King of Hungary barges in and assumes command of the seige. Once the city falls, we begin taking fortress after fortress down the coast.
Peasant revolts plague us as the peasantry rises up against the constant neverending wars.
1466:
The waiting game continues as the forts stubbornly refuse to surrender. The King of Hungary, after smashing the Venetians, accepts peace for a mere 57,000 ducats and military access through Venetian territory. Idiots.
We continue the war, and quickly cover the remaining Venitian cities.
1467:
After 7 years of war, the Venetians finally offer us their Mediterranean posessions. We accept. Later that year, the Illyrian despotates finally agree to join the Empire.
