Holy Land Epopeia - Part I - Mameluks War

Right after the Western Reconquista was over the Council have started to analyze potential chances of realizing our main goal - our mission and our destiny - Liberation of the Holy Land From Heathen Hands, Protection of Holy Grave of The Master and Protection of all Pilgrims on their Blessed Way To Master's Grave.

We have decided that peaceful negotiations with the followers of false god were out of question. Yet we had to crash the rebels within our domain first.

In Anno Domini 1507 The Only True God gave us a Sign - the heathens of Turkey accompanied by their even more uncivilized allies of Crimea declared war on Mameluks and Persia.

It was the news we were most eager to hear - we have immediatelly embarked our best Maroccoan army and sailed to the Holy Land.

Lebanon had no defences and no fortifications, yet we had some delay in Judea. At the same time we have launched an all-out attack through the desert to capture all three unfortified provinces of Quattara, Cataract and Nile.

By October 1508 we have captured Judea and started a siege in Alexandria on left wing and in Samaria on the right one.

The new year brought us into a very serious position - Turkey signed separate peace with Mameluks. It soon had to mean that Persian forces were to siege Judea, so our take over of Alexandria and Samaria in March 1509 were welcomed with happiness, yet was accompanied by growing fear among the Generals.

In December 1509 we have summoned all our best people to Egypt - in particular the great Conquistador of Morocco - L'Isle Adam - who has been till that time dealing with rebellions all over the country. Note that Persians have retaken both Judea and Lebanon by that time.

L'Isle Adam did his job nicely conquering Egypt within a few months, yet our forces were weak and the Persians were advancing. We had to, once again, use a good outmanouver tactic to get rid of the heathen plague.

As soon as Persians have been noticed on Egypt's outskirts we have embarked our troops enroute to Judea and Aleppo.

The next targets on the eastern wing had to be Syria and Samaria - the Persians have at that time besieged Alexandria, one of the only two 'small' fortresses in Mameluks Empire. We dreamed of it for a long long time, for the God's Blessing had to be on our side at these glorious days.

Sharur - certainly - The Knights were only, as pointed out defending their allies of Genoa against over-aggressive Milan and its land-grabbing allies of Spain and England :)

Note that even after the war Spain loved (+150) The Knights just like mother loves its only child, which only prooves that they have understood their mistakes and accepted the righteous punishment.

Sharur - That was actually the initial plan - but since The Knights were not a colonist nation it had to fail pretty soon. During the Mamaluks Campaign it had to be decided that a certain Reeducation Programme for Mislead, Yet Willing to Learn The True Values be introduced. First criminals, then peasants and at last Muslims were allowed to join the Programme.

To a great displeasure of more radical members of the society it meant in the early stages tolerance, and later on even special rights for Reeducation Programme Participants Formerly Known As Muslims.

The whole matter was rather unwillingly discussed in even most enlighted universities on Rhodes even centuries after Programme itself has been implemented.

Holy Land Epopeia - Part I - Mameluks War Continuation

As already stated we have drawn the Persian forces deep into Mameluks territory, to Alexandria with an intention to let them stay there till the end of the war, while taking over Syria, Judea and Samaria. In July 1511 the outcome of the war was becoming more and more clear when we have already taken over Delta and besieged Egypt for the second time in this war.

Egypt has been captured by L'Isle Adam in August 1511, thus when Syria has fallen to October 1511 we were ready to capture the remaining Mameluk lands.

The Mameluks War was soon over and having seen the Persians fight bravely we have decided to grant them white peace, hoping that maybe their Sunni origins might have been a bit more closer to The True Faith.

Somewhere during the Mameluks War our beloved monarch - D'Aubusson - has died. The Council had no problems with choosing the new leader - Villiers de L'Isle Adam, the African Wars Hero, Conquistador of Algier and Morocco has now gained also the title of Defensor of Lord's Land.

D'Aubusson will be known in the history for his outstanding brave decisions during the early stages of the nation. Decisions, which have brought The Knights from an island lost somewhere on the Mediterranean Sea to a major power in the region - a power ready to face the heathens and fulfil its eternal mission.

Holy Land Epopeia - Part II - Crimean War

The havoc caused by Crimeans in Lebanon got us down so much ! They have killed many priests and burnt a significant number of churches - at least three cases have been fully described and sent to Rome within the first two years of their occupation.

The first occasion for us to attack the Crimeans and liberate our Christian breathens came in 1514, when Poland, Brandenburg, Prussia, Bohemia and England declared war on Turkey and Crimea.

Unfortunatelly Villiers de L'Isle Adam decided that The Knights were not ready yet to face Turkey, for even with Polish help we were outnumbered 2:1.

Many thought he became afraid of fighting after having been chosen a monarch. It soon prooved unjustified suposition.

The opportunity came two years later when Crimea and Turkey attacked Persia and Portugal - strange that Portugese were to ally with that heathen crap !

We have waited a few months or so, so that the Turks get engaged in their war against Persia and then struck in three places at the same time ! In Lebanon and Crimean Peninsula (Crimea and Koffa) against Crimea and in Smyrna against Turkey.

The Crimeans were totally unprepared and the Turks, engaged by the Persians were unable to help them in any way.

We have lost control of Syria, but it was unimportant, for we did not want to fight any Turkish troops in this war. At least not when Persians could do that for us !

In June 1519 Persians have signed a peace treaty with Crimea taking Azerbadzjan, which meant that we had one more province to take.

In January 1520 Kouban have been liberated and all our forces in Crimea have been sent to Kerch - the last Crimean province.

Anno Domini 1520 brought important changes on Turkish front - Smyrna has been retaken by Turkey, while we have captured Macedonia and started a siege in Hellas. The situation was becoming more and more serious, for we were clearly outnumbered in that region.

At the same time we have decided to take back Syria and Aleppo on the Holy Land front.

By March 1521 we had to withdraw all our forces from Greece, which brought an overall dissatifcation at the Council.

But an important breakthrough point came in May 1521 - Kerch has fallen and the whole of Crimea has been annexed !

We wanted to fight further against Turkish agression in Syria, yet early in 1522 Astrahan backstabbers have attacked us and occupied Crimea and Kouban. Not a month later Persia and Portugal have attacked us from the east and west simultanously. Not seeing any chance in fighting on four fronts we have agreed to cease Kouban to Astrahan and Syria to Turkey.

Portugese invasion on Sicily has been personally repelled by L'Isle Adam. The note has been sent to Rome, demanding that Portugal be reprimended and brought back on the right track. We demanded also that it be forbidden for Portugal to ally with heathen nations in future.

The Crimean War had to be the last war of Villiers de L'Isle Adam for he was already growing tired of constant marching through the deserts and eventuially died in late 1525. The election of the new leader was a difficult matter - eventually La Sangle, a scholar and diplomate, prevealed over the militarists.

Note that a number of loans taken during Moroccoan, Mameluk and Crimean Wars have drastically worsened the inflation.

I think peace would be a very good idea for the next few years. Those revolts can grow and grow.:(

Thx for response :) I'll try to get at least one more part of the story done within some 1 hour or so.

WhiteHojo - the latest political map is the last one of the last part - no. 55 - it shows only eastern part of the territory, but the western one contains simply all the former muslim countries in Western Africa and both Sicilian provinces. Anyway i'll try to get a new, full map later today. The Knights are not a colonist nation, so we do not own a single province in the New World.

Storey - actually the revolts are not such a major problem - after the Reeducation Programme has been introduced (tolerance for Muslims after 1517 at the cost of Protestants), the only revolting provinces are actually only the Sicily and Messina - down to some 2% right now and home Crimean counties, at 3% of course - the rest welcomed The Knights with joy :)

Holy Land Epopeia - Part III - War For Peace

Apart from an obvious possitive result the Crimean War brought for The Knights, there were a few difficulties they had to face in the upcoming years.

First of all Turkey has overtaken Georgia - the first case when a muslim country was as bold as to enslave a Christian one. The Council called for Turkish blood, but the more important problem seemed to require our immediate attenation - rebels in Crimea.

Fortunatelly the war between Turkey, Oman and Aden against Persia has just spread out and the Persians managed to take Syria for a while.

At the same time another evil has started to spread out accross Europe. The Council was not sure how to handle that issue, thus several notes have been sent to Rome begging for advice. But from the very beginning we somehow knew that they have betrayed The True Faith and allied themselves with The Evil.

Anno Domini 1528 meant for The Knights important changes in the infrastructure across the country - from that year Bailliffs and Chief Judges were being promoted first in the richest provinces and later on in all possible places. The Knights decided to bring justice and truth to all in need. It certainly helped them to overcome initial unrest in the newly conquered provinces.

Eventually also all the loans have been repaid.

The Almighty was definatelly on our side, for He Himself has inspired Hungarians, Venice and Navarra to declare on Turkey in December 1528, the country which has been opressing Christian pilgims in Syria and Greece.

Since Turkey was already involved in 3 wars we have decided to declare as well and help our breathens from Poland and Hungary in their attempts to crample Turkish presence in Europe.

On Holy Land front we have immediatelly sieged Syria.

Unfortunatelly we were unprepared for a major conflict against Turkey and we have soon lost control over Syria. Unfortunatelly the Hungarians were losing to Wallachia, Turkish vassal on Hungarian front badly.

Additionally Poles have soon signed a peace treaty with Turks and turned against us ! We wanted to end this misunderstanding as soon as possible, thus we have sieged Krementjug and waited for an opportunity to offer white peace.

Early 1530 brought an important switch on Crimean front, since the Brandenburgians have eventually arrived on the peninsula and started to siege Crimea.

On the Holy Land front Syria has been conquered once again by our forces, mainly to make Turks withdraw their forces from the Balkans and to protect our invasion in Smyrna.

We have also decided to punish The Hedjaz for its joining the war on Turkish side.

By March 1530 Krementjug has been conquered and we have offered white peace to Poland, which has been accepted. As expected Hungary and Venice has gathered their forces and with no Turks to fight on Hungarian front were able to capture two provinces from Wallachia.

We were unable to engage Turkish forces for too long on Holy Land front though. They have retreated to Hungarian front taking Smyrna on their way. By December 1530 we have started siege in Macedonia while Wallachians with Turkish help were again controlling three provinces.

Holy Land front was far more promising for we have taken Syria in November 1530 and with Jordan being ours for a while already we have decided to siege Arabia and possibly eliminate The Hedjaz from the war.

By April 1531 Hungary and Venice have again managed to take two of three Wallachian provinces and were definatelly overcoming Turkey on Hungarian front. Arabia has been captured in April 1531 yet The Hedjaz were not to grant us separate peace yet.

By September that year Astrahan backstabbers have invaded Crimea once again ! Despite our major success in Smyrna the Turks have somehow grown very strong and the army of Ali Bey was heading towards Hungary.

By January 1532 the situation both on Holy Land and on Hungarian fronts was turning slightly in our favour.

Eventually the Hungarians have made it ! Wallachia have been annexed to our highest delight in March 1532.

Soon afterwards we have taken a major decision to sign a separate peace with The Hedjaz taking Jordan from them. Many voices called it irresponsible, for there were chances of annexing the whole country, but we didn't want Turkish War to last too long for we couldn't have gained far more then a few more provinces and the turmoil in the country was getting more and more serious. Besides we needed our best army to fight against Turkey at that moment.

Nonetheless La Sangle has again decided that we needed that war to end asap. We asked Turkey for Smyrna and Syria, which have been granted. At the same time we have been made to sign a peace treaty with Astrahan giving them Crimea.

The outcome of the war might have been definatelly better for us. The Hedjaz might have been annexed, we might have demanded one more of Turkish provinces or crash Astrahan.

But on the other hand we were happy with it. We still had no border with Persia. We had no border with Poland after giving up Crimea. Wallachia has been annexed by Hungary and we now controlled an extreemly important province of Smyrna, which was allowing us to see Turkish army transports in case of any future war.

And last but not least - with Syria and Jordan in our hands we might have give a shelter to all pilgrims on their way to Holy Land. The Pope Himself sent us a letter congratulating us this major success.

Long Peaceful Decade

The war between Turkey and Hungary ended in December 1532 with Turkey taking over Croatia. The messes for Hungarian brothers have taken place in all churches accross the country.

Yet some were pointing out to the fact that now when Genoa have attracted Austria and Papal States to our alliance we will be eventually able to use their help in any future war against Turkey for Croatia was bordering Austria and Austria was bordering Genoa and Papal States.

At the same time more and more Bailiffs were being promoted accross the motherland.

Savoian Un-War

Anno Domini 1538 started with Genoa's pointless decision to attack Savoy, Austria and Papal States have stood on Genoan side, which made us to do the same, so as not to lose our most precious allies.

Iraq War

To protect status quo in the region (not to allow Persia get too strong) we have immediatelly declared on Iraq and moved our forces to Basrah.

By June 1540 a few important issues have happened. First Iraq has taken over Syria, which made us sent some troops to liberate it. Our sieges both in Basrah and Iraq were still unsuccessful. And more important Turkey has declared on Hungary and Venice, which sounded rather like a sign for us that they were allowing us to take over Iraq. Genoa has finally understood that Savoian War was a mistake and signed a white peace with them.

In early 1544 a second already war was seen on Britannia when England, Savoy, Portugal and Brnadenburg declared on Scotland and Naples - again no changes were possible with both alliances being equally strong.

The voices in the Council were calling for more devotion and La Sangle, who has used the peaceful decade to strengthen the country by developing technologies, creating infrastructure and protecting our international position was slightly losing ground.

Long Peaceful Decade was soon to be over though and more difficult times were to be seen.
