Guys if you d like to check out a game where you can zoom out all the way out from the battlefields to a strategic map to see your cities, you should check it out. Hegemony: www.longbowgames.com/hegemony (this is not publicity, i dont even own that game)

That games lacking the whole side of city development or character management of CK or EU games, but it has the realtime battles some of you seem to like and without the whole hypergraphics of total war games that would kill the game performance.

Tbh I'd be happy with:

-CK2 at the top level (international politics) but with far more complexity and options (less multipliers and more proactive decisions).
-Rome:TW2 (as it looks like it's going to be) at the master battle view, with detailed commands etc.
-Mount and Blade style control of yourself on the battlefield if you choose.

(and now for the very ambitious but best part)

The ability to walk into any castle/town (a la mount and blade), but to have far better animations, graphics and RPG elements. If I march into Constantinople, for example. I want an appropriate soundtrack playing while I head to the Imperial Palace and decide what to do with the emperor (provided I find him there). At my own court I'd like to make visual improvements, develop relationships (complex but not impossibly so) and really feel as though it's a living place (get dragged into random situations for assassination attempts which I have to fight my way out of for example). Would also like to make friends and enemies on my council as they would have deep personalities which would see loyalists and traitors arise.

I have idly pondered what an FPS vs RTS/Strategy game would play out like, there was something like this along time ago for a singleplayer game but the name escapes me. A game that would play out as a cross between planetside and command and conquer. One side plays in FPS mode, the other moves groups of units, robots, insects etc, in hordes over the map, grand strategy and base building elements included. It solves the problem of the AI being weak or one dimensional, as players are directing the AI. With both sides trying to conquer the map. End of Nations is an RTS MMO coming out soon, I have played but it's not really got the same feel as say Shattered Galaxy used to have for teamplay.

However for an honorable slightly off topic mention, I would have to go with an RPG MMO, purely designed so all levelling mechanics were done in character, if indeed any was included at all. All development went toward encouraging social interaction, development of communities etc. Politics, and strategy could well be implemented, I picture a modern day city, feudal realm or post apocalyptic setting. I have played one that was an FPS RP MMO before but it was a flash in the plan affair, which highlighted to me heavy moderating tools are needed to stop people going out of their way to disrupt events etc.

So the major elements would be:
Third Person RPG
City Builder/Managment
Trade/Production
RTS battles

Several oblivion and morrowind mods did this in a limited fashion, either with a business, small armies or settlements you'd build up over time.

The one thing that comes to mind though to satisfy some of this, is a minecraft mod:
http://millenaire.org/

Also towns might suit your playstyle?
http://www.townsgame.com/

Dwarf Fortress if you are feeling like extreme details and micromanaging. I recommend graphics mods for that.

Moving swiftly along from the aggressive and poorly punctuated sales pitch above (which will be deleted shortly, making it seem like I'm referring to another poster, thereby causing an argument).

Any amalgamation of Star Wars: Empire at War and Paradox grand strategy mechanics would be fine for me.

There'S a village next to where I live called Frankenstein, and it has a very nice castle in ruin... But I don't think this is at all related to the topic ^^ (apart from the place name)

Sorry, I found it so beautiful the other night that I had to share it with other castle lovers :)

THIS is exactly my escapist's dream.

I've often gone the same road im my game's choices :
Playing EU3/CK2, I feel a lack of RTS
--> I find RTS in Total War's battles, but then I feel a lack of FPS and RPG,
--> which I find in that really wonderful game, Mount&Blade.

I'd be interested in seeing CKII as a turn based game. That way, you can skip through any lulls in gameplay without that little fear of escalating events.
And fantasy. A fantasy CKII realm would be sweet, largely because the possibilities in a fictional realm would be infinite, instead of limited to standing on historical events. So if someone made CKII+Lords of Magic/Age of Wonders/Fall from Heaven/any number of other fantasy TBS games, I would totally pay for that.

This, a Ck2 cross Age of Wonders game would be amazing.

Tribal-era game -> Rome/Classical era game -> Dark Ages -> CK -> EU -> Victoria -> HoI -> Information Age -> Fate of the World -> Space Exploration -> Galaxy conquest
So like Spore was supposed to be?
Well, I don't think that CKII lends itself well to that. It's mostly about RPing a noble and his descendants. Doing that across many thousands of years doesn't seem particularly feasible.

The only thing enjoyable about Spore was the pre-tribal stuff, and that I would not want in my Frankenstein game. To answer you other point, then this game would shift as you advance through the eras. In the tribal era you got a tribe and try to become dominant, in the classical era you control a city, smaller kingdom, and it grows like that. :)
