This is a fantasy thread for escapists.

I have read numerous threads on the site wishing to combine CK2 with other strategy games in the Paradox Stable (such as Mounted Blade), or even without (the Sims), only to be shouted down by people throwing the cold water of reason on their dreams.

Let's suspend realism for a second and imagine what elements of which games would you shoe-horn together in order to create the Ultimate Strategy Game, no limits to game size, ram, or hardware.

Personally-

I would take CK2 (of course) for plot mechanics, relations, and politics and war contributions, with every character playable, low-born and high-born.
I would take the Total War games for cities, unit movements, land and sea-battles, that latter two being playable if you're a general/admiral of an army or fleet. Furthermore, I'd add some of their diplomacy options for international diplomacy usable by the king or chancellor.
Assassins Creed for Assassin/spy missions, if you held the role of spymaster, or worked for the spymaster, discovering plots through eavesdropped or tailing suspicious characters. I'd also use the latest Assassins Creed for trade and crafting, while using Skyrim for individual Crafting.
Skyrim's skill system superimposed onto CK2's trait system.
The Simms/Oblivion for improving individual diplomacy through conversation.
Assassins Creed III naval battles, when you're only in charge of one ship.
Mount and Blade when you're fighting as part of a unit/leading a unit, but not leading the entire army.

What would your Ultimate Frankenstein's Monster of Strategy Games be?

I always thought it'd be interesting to have a city builder game, but instead of being an invisible mayor/god, I'd be an actual person in the world. Preferably something medievil but with more fantasy/magic. Say for example including a city building game inside of Skyrim. Where I spend time as an adventurer, find a good spot and build my homestead, and other wandering adventurers build their homesteads, and a small town is formed. Then it grows because I, as the new mayor, invite merchants, build new buildings, etc... But I can still go off into the wilderness to hunt, track down monsters, etc to keep my community safe. Then as it grows economically, start competing for trade and eventually growing a military to protect and perhaps even take over other communites, crown myself King. Part of this would involve espionage, such as dressing up some troops or mercenaries with a competing towns tabards, set them against yet another town to play them off each other. As I my city grew in size, economics, and power become a despot to rule with fear and intimidation.

So the major elements would be:
Third Person RPG
City Builder/Managment
Trade/Production
RTS battles

And I don't mean the shoddy attempts like Fable or other games where you could own property. I mean actually laying out and building a city, with all the decisions found in a city building game, but where I could take a break from it to wander the wilderness in third person, seeking excitement.

Nah, CK2 geopolitics and character system + Rome: Total War map system and realtime battles would do it for me (BUT REALTIME, no turn-based movement. The armies just move slowly [or quickly, depending on your speed setting] across the map). This would make the player have to pause often and move around the map to see what's going on, but I think the fun that would ensue would more than make up for it.

Make the AI leaders a lot smarter than they were in any Total War game, and you've got yourself a challenging and fun game.

I'd be interested in seeing CKII as a turn based game. That way, you can skip through any lulls in gameplay without that little fear of escalating events.
And fantasy. A fantasy CKII realm would be sweet, largely because the possibilities in a fictional realm would be infinite, instead of limited to standing on historical events. So if someone made CKII+Lords of Magic/Age of Wonders/Fall from Heaven/any number of other fantasy TBS games, I would totally pay for that.

I'm good with turn based battles/games. Not in my preferred game which I described above, but I still love a good TBS. Lately, in between session of aggravation and irritation with CKII, I playe Elementalk: Fallen Enchantress which has turn based battles. Not as deep or tactical as I'd like, but still enjoyable.

In other words, adding an additional game to an existing game - even if the additional game is, on its own, excellent - can actually detract from the final product. I enjoy CK2, Total War, M&B, and so on, but I wouldn't want them together. I think that would make a worse game, not a better one.

This would be my dream game.

All realtime, no turns, and just an incredibly huge scale of zoom. Imagine going from seeing all of Europe on the map, and your armies would be indicated with larger abstract markers, to a smooth zoom all the way down to the individual soldier level, where you would command battle field tactics on par with the Total War franchise.

Imagine the monster processor and graphic card it requires, and cooling system to keep them running smoothly

On the other hand, when I was a kid playing Age of Empire II, I always imagined a perfect wargame where battalions of thousands duking it out in 3D. Then Rome came out and I was blown away.

When I read Byzantine history books, I've always imagined being able to participate in court intrigues, rule the empire, struggle with powerful Dynatoi and making grand plans to revive the dying Empire. Then Crusader Kings came out, then Crusader Kings II, and the recent LOR dlc, each time I was so happy.

Who knows, we will be playing, or some of us will be making that awesome game Tuareg109 is dreaming about. I, for one, would be delighted.

I'd love a M&B style battle system but on a larger scale, mixed with the strategic focus of CK2. Instead of just having 100 guys charge at each other with respawn, the battle is broken into smaller engagements so you can jump to the middle or flank of the battle and still have thousands of guys on the screen making it feel like an actual massive battle is taking place that you're in the middle of.

Just a pipe dream for now though, I give it about 10 years until this kind of game is feasible.

I'd use the phase-based WeGo combat system from Battlefront's Combat Mission games, use a variant of the original Fallout's SPECIAL system for characters, and model spy missions after the Thief games.
