Glad to see that your computer-breakdown didn't put a halt on this AAR

I still read this as eagerly as when it began:)

It would also seem that Venice is not doing well in its war, Albania has declared independance from them on December 1, 1738, and the Venetians do not have the troops to put them down. In May 1739, our navy again adds a new page to the tactics manual (tech 28). But in August, we are given mroe fodder to beat the Republicans over the head with. Once again they have failed to add the Swiss to the alliance. But this time they also leave out the Puritans as well! It would seem we have indeed left our co-religionists in the lurch for the sake of convenience. As if in Divine judgment for this sin of convenience, a plague sweeps through Koln in November, killing 2000.

On March 20, 1740, the Republicans attempt to make amends by reestablishing ties with Navarra. They also point to the new colonial city in Damarra in June. But they have found the ultimate way to relieve the tension on them...war.

The Dutch Republic has been envying the lands of Atjeh for some time. Tensions have been high between us for decades, and at last the Republicans have seen 10000 troops raised in Jambi. On September 14, 1740 they march into Riau and the war begins. By October 1st Riau is besieged. 22 days later Maria Theresa, to our shock, is elected Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. In October of 1741, Kleves revolts, but it quickly is put down. On November 8th Riau falls and we march on Ajeh. We also take note of the tropical climes and develop new tactics to face these difficulties as well in February 1742 (land tech 43). By August 27th Ajeh has fallen, though they seem to be stalling over their surrender. It turns out that somehow the Royal Family escaped the siege and must be chased down.

Furthering our diplomatic difficulties is a decision we must make regarding the so-called "Pragmatic Sanction" that will either legitimize the Hapsburg succession or allow the Bavarians to make a claim to the HRE. We decide on September 7, 1742 to support the Hapsburg claim (+2 stab, CB with France and Spain, relations -150, -50 Genoa, -150 Prussia, England +150, Portugal +150, Russia +100, Hannover +100, Austria +150). We also redouble our search for the Atjeh Royal Family to end the war so that we can be prepared for hostilities in Europe as well. They are finally tracked down on October 4th, and after a little convincing, they accept peace for Riau and 130d.

The Republicans have another war victory, and their popularity for the moment, is again on the ascendance, but we will continue to labor to point out their lack of moral rectitude in rule and the need for a strong center to form a foreign policy that reflects all the Dutch people. Eventually, we shall triumph, at least I believe we will.

Sorcerer,

Wouldn't Prussia have been though? But they turned out to be wimps this game. I was shocked. I spent a good deal of time preparing for an onslaught from Alter Fritz, but it never came. I was kind of bummed, to be honest.:D

Kurtbrian,

Glad you're still enjoying it. The next chapter should be shorter, and thus up a little sooner.;)

wathombe,

Well it has a "little" to do with my previous dp choices. ;) As you encourage free trade and colonization, you tend to land these events more frequently. That said, I'm at the point now that all those -15% inflations do is make sure it stays at 0. All those governors I appointed killed any inflation in the land.:p

Hopefully I'll have another installment up by Monday Eve, Denver time.

And btw, I have a new computer, and so far, it's doing well, thank you.

That's great! I thought you were going to have to wait several months. Congrats! Must be a load of your mind. Looking forward to more!!!

Congratulations, anyway. :)

Perhaps a combination of both. :D

And please be careful with this one, Shawn, we don't need more interruptions in your AAR. ;)

Shawn,

I have enjoyed this and your Brandenburg AAR's immensely. I was wondering if you could post or otherwise make available the events you used for both Dutch and Prussian unification. I'm not a big fan of the EEP (Holland and Zeeland starting as uncolonized land?).

Not to be too much of a pain, but you aren't starting the EEP correctly if that's what's happening. Those provinces go to the county of Holland, and EUII isn't finding the files for tht country. You need to start the game from the desktop, and the EEP folder needs to be a subfolder of the EUII folder.

I guess I'll re-examine it, but the EEP autoinstalls itself. I assumed it auto-installed itself to the correct place. I have started the game from the desktop from a new shortcut icon created that says EEP. It's version 1.1a with the extra patch installed.

(Sorry shawn on the pseudo hijack. I'll drop it after this post). If you don't have the North American (strategy first) version you need to change the location on the installer, as the NA version of EUII installs in a different folder than others. Run the installer and change the location when it asks where to put it.

Mr Sinister,

Glad you've enjoyed them. I didn't use any event for German unification other than the Brandenburg inheritance events already in the file. I've campaigned for a unification event for "little Germany" since then (ie: historical non-Austrian Germany). But I still haven't seen one and to be honest, I haven't played a German game since to try to make one.

As for my Dutch event, it's actually a modified version of the EEP event. (I'm not using the EEP, but I imported the event.) I deleted the -200 VP hit (I shouldn't be penalized for something that was part of my game's goals), and the -2 or 3 (I don't remember which) quality hit (ahistorical). Other than that, it was the same event. The only thing is that for whatever reason I thought there was a capital province change, but it didn't happen, you'd probably want to add a line to change the capital to Holland if it isn't there.

BTW, in the "my dog ate my homework" excuse category, I forgot to bring my notebook with me last evening, so I didn't get any writing done. So it'll be tomorrow evening (Tuesday) before I post the next installment (SORRY!)

Oh geez...(groans)...I don't know enough about using the editor to do something like that...if someone is willing to walk me completely through that (I'm a lawyer, so I'm not technically gifted), I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, great AAR...I appreciate the input of everyone here.
