I've started a game as the Solomonids in the CM start, and converted to Judaism with the intention of reforming Israel and rebuilding the temple, the descendants of Solomon returning home and fulfilling the prophecies etc.
I thought it would be simple, convert to Jewish via courtier, holy war the fragmented christians, take full control of Abyssinia and Nubia. Then I would just wait for the decadence revolt to make my move for Israel via Egypt.
It took about 100 years to take the 2 kingdoms. I could feel trouble coming as all the caliphs were sitting on 0 to 10 % decadence and slowly expanding with no sign of trouble. Sooner or later things would come to blows and I couldnt hope to win. The people needed a new homeland away from the green blob!
The diplomat fabricated a claim on the independent duchy of Oman which I took. This put me in range of the Maldives which I fabricated and took, a few days before the Caliph declared an invasion of Nubia which he won easily. Now we're safe from being wiped out but the future looks dodgy.
My plan is to hang onto Abyssinia and Oman for as long as I can to milk it for all the cash I can, while I expand into India, probably via Sri Lanka as its a Buddhist duchy in a sea of Hindus so is ripe for holy war. Then I'll bide my time, conquering India and waiting for the chance to go for Jerusalem the long way. If there is no decedance revolt then hopefully the mongols will stir things up enough for me to go for it.
I love the way the game works and makes these crazy situations! The flight to the Maldives was very skin of the teeth and reminded me of the start of battlestar galactica!
It would be much easier if the Suez canal existed as I could just go for Sardinia or something and take advantage of the European border gore. As it stands the Abbasids control Persia and the Hindu Cush so I'm completely shut out of the European seas. They're also taking some Indian land so I might never escape them. The screenshots show the general situation: my position and the green blob of doom from Morocco to China.
